Red carpet welcome for Miss India
Patiala, March 29 Addressing the gathering, Navneet said she was proud to be associated with the university. She thanked her friends and teachers for motivating her and supporting her at every step. Narrating her journey to success, Navneet said her grandmother had been her inspiration and she had learnt a lot from her. Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the university, was also present on the occasion and wished her luck for her future pageants also. Three short fiction films, prepared by the students of CAMS in which Navneet had played lead roles, were also shown during the function. These films include, “Choice”, “Ek Navi Swer” and “Dhi Rani”. |

Unidentified persons booked for immoral trafficking
Chandigarh, March 29 RK Garg, an RTI activist, had given a complaint to the police highlighting the flesh-trade racket going on in the city. “I had given a complaint to the police and various officials of the UT Administration about the flesh trade flourishing”, Garg said. He further stated that unidentified persons had even given their phone numbers and names of the girls on the website. Garg stated that he had made a complaint on February 6, however, no action was taken by the Police Department or the UT Administration. “It was after I made another representation to the UT Administrator some days ago that an action on my complaint was taken”, Garg said. Police officials stated that the case had been transferred to the Operation Cell of UT police, which would be scrutinising the phone numbers mentioned on The police will also be studying the modus-operandi of those involved in the racket during the investigation. Meanwhile, a case at the Sector 11 police station has been registered. |

Gold chain snatched at Sector 41
Chandigarh, March 29 Motorcycle-borne miscreants reportedly snatched a gold chain from a woman from near her residence. The victim, Viyaya Dube, reported to the police that two unknown persons on a black Pulsar motorcycle sped away after snatching her gold chain from near her residence. A case has been registered against the unidentified santchers at the Sector 39 police station. The police said an inquiry had been initiated to nab the miscreants. |

Youngster club post win
Chandigarh, March 29 The Danger Club won the toss and decided to bat first. But their batsmen could not show an impressive play after they bundled out with a total score of 87. Chasing the small total, the Youngster Cricket Club scored the runs in nine overs at the loss of one wicket. Leading scorer of the Youngster Cricket Club was Vijay Kumar and Vijay Seeda who scored 39 and 38, respectively. The second match was played between Yuvi Cricket Club and All Dream Cricket Club that saw Yuvi club winning with an impressive margin. Batting first, the Yuvi Cricket Club scored 152 in 20 overs at the loss of five wickets. The top scorer of the team were Manoj and Sonu, who scored 50 and 26 runs, respectively. While chasing the big total, the players of All Dream Cricket Club could not sustain the blowing attack of the opposition and bundled out at total of 82 runs. Anil was the best performer from the bowling side and took four wickets with 13 runs in 3 overs and Manoj supported the team by taking two wickets. The third match of the day, which was halted by rain yesterday, again commenced between Victorious Cricket Club and Sunrise Cricket Club in which later won by 61 runs. |

Chandigarh, March 29 The competition was organised by the Food Corporation of India, concluded today here in Chandigarh. Women’s singles began today with quarterfinal that saw Rashmi Kumari (ONGC) storming into the semifinals by beating Sneha More (IOCL) by 25-00, 25-07 She equally performed well in the semifinals by beating Parimala Devi (IOCL) with 25-06, 25-04 scores. Further, she made no mistake during final, and clinched the title by beating S Ilavazhaki (ONGC) by 25-05, 12-25, 23-02. Third position went to Parimala Devi (IOCL). Neelkanth S Avhad, general manager of the FCI, Punjab. He gave away the prizes to the winners of the carrom tournament that was held here. |
