Deteriorating law and order situation worries residents
Dera Bassi, February 24 While paying tributes, leaders criticised the state government and the police administration for deteriorating law and order in the state. They said common man in Punjab was not feeling safe because some criminal elements, with a safety cover of state government, were terrorising people. Congress leader Manpreet Kaur Dolly said the state government and police administration had failed in saving common people from criminal elements. She demanded a proper inquiry in Rajesh Kumar Bittu murder case and said all accused should be exposed before public and punished. |

Youth festival begins at Punjabi varsity
Patiala, February 24 Being organised by the university’s Department of Youth Welfare in association with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), this happens to be first-of-its-kind mega event being organised by the Punjabi University on its campus in which more than 250 youths from 40 universities, hailing from six countries would be vying for top honours in the five-day event. Speakers during the inaugural session advocated the cause of tabulating a ‘cultural policy’ to promote the unique cultural diversities among the SAARC nations with its shine and prowess carving out a special niche among the countries in the world. |

Football tournament from February 28
Fatehgarh Sahib, February 24 Amarjit Singh Kohli, secretary, DFA said the championship would be organised at ITI, Bassi Pathana. He said teams from all the districts of the state would participate in the state championship and state team would be selected to participate in the national championship. He said the DFA would make all arrangements for comfort boarding and lodging of the players. |
St Stephen’s log win
Chandigarh, February 24 Batting first, St John’s School posted a modest total of 176 runs in 30 overs with Pawan (55 runs) and Mehul (37 runs) scoring most of the runs. Pranjay (23 runs) and Gurmannat (24 runs) were the other main scorers for the team. From the bowling side, Akshay claimed four for 28 while Udit and Vishwas claimed two wickets each. In reply, the winning side achieved the target in 17.3 overs. Udit scored a brilliant knock of unbeaten 111 runs. Karan Aggarwal (35 runs) and Saksham(33 runs) were the other main scorers. From the bowling side, Tejas claimed one wicket for 18 while Mehul took two for 21 runs. |
Golf coaching programme from March 15
Panchkula, February 24 The golf programme will have a total of 18 coaching days and will be conducted twice a week (every Friday 4 to 5pm and Sunday 10 to 11am), for children, men and women of all ages. The members as well as non-members can enroll themselves after contacting Ajay Gujral (9814356013). Basics, including safety, etiquette, rules of Golf, grip, aim, alignment, stance, posture, hitting, chipping, putting, long irons and short irons, will be taught during the coaching camp. |
