Apricot is the national fruit of Armenia and the Armenian people consider it to be a blessed fruit. In old times, in many nations apricot was known as armanu. The botanical name of this fruit is Prunus armeniaca. Apricot is an excellent food for people on a diet. One apricot has only 17 calories. The Chinese believe that apricots enhance a woman’s fertility. They call these “moons of the faithful”. Fresh fruits are an excellent source of Vitamins A, C and E as well as potassium and iron. It is also a good source of beta-carotene. Eating two to three apricots can meet the half of a body’s daily Vitamin A requirement.
