Missing lawyer yet to be traced
Ropar, February 22 The strange thing was that the study of footprints has revealed that one person had gone towards the canal. Similarly, foot prints of one person returning from the canal were also visible though it could not be confirmed that both the footprints belong to same person, said the police sources. Satwinder (27) got married two months ago in December and on February 14, he along with his wife had gone to house of his in-laws at Rajpura. From there, on February 17 he went to Chandigarh alone and since then found missing. His car was found parked near Bhakhra canal at Pathreri Jattan village of Ropar. Though the police tried to extract clue analysing his call details yet nothing substantial was found which could point towards his disappearance. Though it was found that Satwinder had been in constant touch with two women identified one of his clients at Anandpur Sahib and a local girl. But he did not make any call to any of them on the February 17 from his mobile phone number, said sources. Satwinder was in the hobby of changing his phone numbers frequently and changed his phone number at least five times during last year and the last time he changed his phone number was only a month ago, said sources. This has, however, made the investigation work a little lengthy, added sources. |

22-year-old girl goes missing from Pinjore

February 22 In her complaint Jasbir (mother) alleged that Mani and his mother
Kanchan, residents of Pinjore, have kidnapped her daughter, as they had
been offering proposal to marry her for more than one year. The Pinjore
police has registered a case under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC and
has started the investigations. The police has formulated a team in this
context, which also raided at the residence of Kanchan at Mani Majra,
which yielded no result. |

Two snatchers held in Ambala
Ambala, February 22 According to information, Charu Chawla, a resident of Mahender Nagar, was going on a rickshaw when three motorcycle borne youths came. One of the youths tried to snatch her purse but their motorbike skidded and the alleged snatchers fell down. The passers-by nabbed the other two snatchers while another one managed to escape. Later, the snatchers were handed over to the police. The police has registered a case against the snatchers under Sections 356 (Assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property worn or carried by a person), 379 (theft) and 511 (attempting to commit offense punishable with imprisonment for life) of the IPC. |

Man gets life term for killing wife
Ambala, February 22 According to prosecution, the deceased, Indu, was married to Gulshan. The couple could not beget any child after several years of their marriage. She was harassed by her husband for not bearing any child. On January 17, 2012, Indu sustained serious burn injury and was referred to the Civil Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on February 3, 2012. On her statement she had held Gulshan responsible for her condition. The police has then registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against Gulshan. |

Nirmal Yadav case: Hearing adjourned to March 21
Chandigarh, February 22 The first is: Former Haryana Additional Advocate General Sanjeev Bansal, an accused, on February 19 applied for his discharge from the case. CBI special public prosecutor Anupam Gupta today sought time to file a reply to the application, saying the agency had only two days to study Bansal’s application. The CBI will strongly oppose the application moved by Bansal on the next date of hearing on March 21, sources said. In the second application, the CBI sought permission to place on record evidence against Bansal in a document, which was not attached with the chargesheet. Sanjeev Bansal had made a false alibi at the time the case came to light in August 2008 that the packet containing Rs 15 lakh, which his munshi delivered to Justice Nirmal Singh, instead of Justice Nirmal Yadav. Nirmal Singh, on being contacted, had denied knowing Bansal. This particular one-page statement that contained his alibi was not attached in the chargesheet. The CBI declared since their was a discharge application filed they wanted to get to the root cause of the issue and also see how the application was never attached in the chargesheet. |

Extortion bid: Second accused in police net
Mohali, February 22 The accused, identified as Rahul, alias Ricky, is cousin of Vinod Kumar, alias Gattu, alias Soni, who was arrested yesterday in this connection. Giving details, DSP (City I) Rajinder Singh Sohal said Ricky (22) along with his cousin was issuing threats to Gurjit Singh through SMSes in the name of Babbar Khalsa group, asking him to pay Rs 1 crore or ready to face consequences. “They had stolen a SIM card, which was used for the crime. They were at Mohali when they sent the SMSes and made a call to Gurjit Singh,” said Sohal. The miscreants had also fired a shot with a country-made revolver on the car of the contractor. “During interrogation, the accused have confessed that they had a country-made revolver, which they bought from Uttar Pradesh. We are yet to recover the weapon,” said DSP Sohal. Patti resident Ricky, a class 12 passed out, was an accountant at a shop there. He had also worked for two years at Kharar. Gattu was arrested yesterday in this connection and has been sent to two days remand under police custody. Ricky has also been sent to two days remand by the court today. DSP Sohal added that both Gattu and Ricky were drug addicts and notorious criminals. “Both had already been registered in two cases of causing grievous hurt under Sections 326 of the IPC at Patti,” said DSP Sohal. The Mohali police has registered a case under Sections 386, 506, 120B, 66, 67, of the IPC against the duo at Phase VII police station. |

accesses. The police said that the companies, which have been booked in this case included Mayagarden, Eisher, Marble Zone, Sethi Dhaba, wine shop, Shere Punjab Dhaba. These
companies had been violating the rules for having illegal accesses to have a direct approach for national highway. |

Thieves target car in Mohali, steal tyres
Mohali, February 22 The owner of the car, Saby Anand, said he was shocked to see his car on bricks. “It was parked on the pavement in front of my house, along the main road dividing Sector 69 and 70. As some senior officers and a political leader also reside in the locality, security staff is deployed here. I am surprised how the thieves managed to strike here,” he said. The police was informed, following which it started investigating the case. Two similar incidents had occurred on February 5, when thieves had targeted an i20 car in Phase VII and a truck at Raipur Kalan village. |

Chandigarh, February 22 Dharminder Sidhu, senior sales manager at Padam Motors, alleged that Deepak Kumar purchased a Beat car for Rs 5.5 lakh, paying Rs 97,000 in cash and the remaining amount through a fake cheque of Indian Bank. Later, the accused threatened Sidhu and refused to pay the rest of the amount. A case under Sections 406, 420, 506 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. |

The Cricket Federation of Haryana (regd) will distribute cash prizes to winners of Rs 31,000 and runners-up Rs 21,000 along with glittering trophies and individual prizes.
