Youth commits suicide

Ambala, February 9
A youth of Ambala City has allegedly committed suicide in his room by hanging himself with a ceiling fan. The deceased was identified as Saurav.

According to information, Saurav was running a mobile repair shop at his residence. One of his tenants came to meet him this morning. When he knocked Saurav’s door and did not get any response, he got suspicious and informed the neighbours.

Some of the neighbours entered the room through roof of the house and found Saurav was hanging with a ceiling fan.

After getting the information SHO, Sadar Police, Ajaib Singh, reached the spot. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital at Ambala City for postmortem examination.

The police said no suicide note was recovered from the room of the deceased. His sister, who is lives in Panchkula, reached the spot.

Man found dead in pool

Chandigarh, February 9
An LIC agent, a resident of Sector 15, committed suicide by jumping into the swimming pool of the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1.

DSP (Central) Ashish Kapoor said Randhir Gujral had dinner with his friends in Sector 8. Later, he came to the Chandigarh Club and jumped into the pool.

“At around 11.15 pm all his friends returned back to their homes, however, Randhir came to the Chandigarh Club and committed suicide,” said the DSP. the staff at the club came to know about the suicide in the morning.

A suicide note recovered from the scooter of the deceased stated he was taking the extreme step due to financial problems, the police said. — TNS

150 take part in golf tourney

Over 150 senior citizens from Tri-city participated in the Annual Fortis Healthy Heart Golf Tournament at Chandigarh Golf Club, here today. The tournament was aimed at creating awareness among senior citizens, on the ‘Health of the Heart’.

The tournament was played in the stableford format in eight categories.

Results: Gents- 18 holes- 65 years-75 years: CL Bains (Winner), Col SS Gill (H/P 14) (Runner up);76 years-80 years: Capt JS Sahi (Winner), SS Dhaliwal (Runner Up); 9 holes- 81yrs-85 yrs: Brig KS Sandhu(Winner), Brig WS Choudhary (Runners-Up); 86 years and above: Sq Ldr JS Gill (Winner); Ladies-18 holes-60 years - 70 years: Dr Promila Chari (Winner), Baljinder Mangat (Runners-Up); 9 holes- 71 years and above: Dalbir Sahi (Winner), Asha Chopra (Runner Up); Closest to pin-Gents: Col BS Rangi (3 ft.); Ladies: Baljinder Mangat; Gents straightest drive winners: KS Randhawa, CL Bains; Ladies straightest drive winners: N Charan Singh.

SD college enter netball tourney final

Chandigarh, February 9
The GGDSD College, Sector 32, defeated PG Government College, Sector 11, while the SGGS College, Sector 26, routed Panjab University campus, during the Inter-College Netball Championship for Men, being held here today.

In the first semi-final match, SD College defeated Government College for Men, Sector 11, by 24-18 while in the second semi-final match the SGGS College defeated PU Campus by 30-29.

Results:

League-PG Govt College, Sector 11 beat SCD Government College, Ludhiana by 21-11; GGD SD College beat MRS College, Malout by 29-22; PU Campus beat SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, by 30-19.
