Moments to remember
Wedding photography is no longer the same. With improvements in technology and equipment, it is fast growing as a creative art...
Gurvinder Singh

Click. Click. Click. The shoot for an 'advertisement' is on. Unless you know the 'models', it might get hard for you to guess that the photo-shoot of an actual wedding is on! Wedding photography is quickly morphing from the 'desi' to digital and 'dramatic'. With educated shutterbugs and sophisticated equipment, this genre of photography is fast turning into a new form of expressing creativity.

“Photographers now capture all the colours of the wedding in a much more professional manner,” says Rahul, a wedding photographer. Whether it is the Cupid striking, the naughty smiles, shades of emotions, hues of traditions or capturing the candid expressions, wedding photography today is getting more detailed, intimate, 'real' and memorable.

As weddings become bigger, so has the way to keep the memories alive through photography. For this reason, the more creative lensmen are also peeping through the viewfinder to get the bride and groom look like celebrities.

Earlier, people would consider getting into wedding photography as a second-grade profession; the 'blue collar' job is getting more interesting, creative and lucrative now even as people entering the profession are exploring ways to make this genre of photography One of the things that has brought wedding photography into 'focus' these days is money. “As weddings get bigger, money for good photographers swells as well,” says another photographer.

It is no longer straight shooting for a couple of days; now, pre-wedding photo-shoots are getting all the more glam. “We went for outdoor photo-shoots,” says Aman, who recently got married. “I was surprised when our photographer told us about this shoot,” he says. “Seeing the pictures later on, I was elated. It was worth it,” he adds.

“Rather than making people pose and look at the cameras, wedding photographers now rather become the fly on the wall, and capture the natural emotions and spontaneous expressions than made-up ones,” says Gurinder, another wedding photographer.

Some of them nowadays tend to work in teams. “While one does groups, one would capture all the activities from a distance,” he says. “Equipment has become much more advanced now and we shoot the videos with better systems,” he adds.

The 'shutterbees'

Women are also getting behind the lens professionally for this genre of photography. “Being a woman wedding photographer has its challenges and rewards,” says Kamaljeet Kaur, a Ludhiana-based wedding photographer. “To a woman, brides shed their hesitations and get friendly. They forget the camera, as I go on clicking expressions that never surface when people are conscious about the camera,” she says. At times, however, it gets tough staying out the whole night during weddings and to click indefatigably. “The better pictures you want, the more observant you have to be,” she says. Some photographers do editing themselves. It may get crucial at times. “Editing can spruce up average photography and ruin excellent photographs. That's the reason, I do the editing myself,” she adds.

Music to the ear
Jasmine Singh

Music is breaking barriers, music is binding barriers….its goodness and reach cannot be ignored. The flipside of this positive note is a word that has stuck to music like a termite - piracy. DS Dhaliwal, state coordinator for the Indian music industry, Punjab and Chandigarh, floods us with data that is startling.

“The music industry suffers an annual loss of Rs 300 crore due to piracy,” he says. The reason for it is pretty clear, so it is about time we seek a solution.

Says Dhaliwal, “The latest form is Internet piracy; free downloads from illegal sites is a common practice,” says Dhaliwal, whose stringent measures have ensured that 100 illegal sites have been shut down.

With youngsters downloading music can piracy be totally checked? Dhaliwal adds (he has been asked about the question many a times), “Awareness is the answer; we need to make music lovers aware of how they can take a license and then get in touch with the legal agencies.”

Thrice the magic
Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa are happy that the next generation is better exposed to music…
Jasmine Singh

They are a house on fire. Talking about 'house', they can bring it down in matter of minutes in a single breath! They fight, not with fists but with their musical notes; they debate, not over anything else but musical notes, Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, the musical trio, are not just friends over a cup of coffee, they are bound by the strong, up and down, slow and easy notes of music!

Youth connect

“We have carved a niche for ourselves, away from the music channels that are loosely called youth entertainment. College fests and live music shows bring the youth closer to the artists and their own self.”

Prem Kamath, Channel V GM & EVP

We are one

With musical groups and brands falling apart (most actually have a shelf life of a year or two in India), this is one group that has been together for a fairly long time. The secret is simple, as Shankar Mahadevan, the lead vocalist of the group, says, “Opposite poles attract. Like other groups, we also have difference of opinions, but then we have a debate and come to a conclusion, which is in favour of the song,” he adds.

Generation next

The trio has delivered the maximum hits in the Bollywood industry and now, the kids are following in their footsteps. Loy Mendonsa takes over, “Alyssa, my daughter, made her debut with Karthik Calling Karthik with Uff Teri Ada. She has already sung for movies, including Welcome, Patiala House, Zindagai Na Mileygi Dobaara.”

Shankar too has something nice to share, “The next generation of singers and listeners are good; they understand music. and are more widely exposed to universal music. Last month when we performed by Channel V's Nokia Indiafest 2013 in Goa, we were amazed at the response that we got from youngsters,” Shankar goes on, “They knew each and every line by heart. It was fun performing for the crowd. Besides I think Channel V has made a lot of addition in terms of exposure in music.”

Shankar's son Siddharth has sung for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The BMM student from National College has also done a devotional album, Ganaraj Adhiraj, for which he has collaborated with the famous trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Coffee break

Everyone looks at Ehsaan; the new endorsement of a coffee brand was his brainchild. Shares Ehsaan, “It was a time when singers and musicians also appeared as models in brand endorsements. We had a great time shooting it.”

Silvery temptation
Jasmine Singh

It is not immediately obvious, the ultra thin sheet found atop all delicious things. Warq, the silver foil, is used to garnish food in Pakistan and India, especially sweets. But the multi-cuisine buffet restaurant Warq in sector-26 is pretty conspicuous.

Below the silver-lining are other things that will make the place noticeable, apart from its name. Utility of space is the first thing that you would notice at the fine dining area.

Tastefully done interiors, nothing jarring or strikingly different hung on the walls; Warq is inconspicuous in a good sense! The smiling member of the staff pulls the chair, places a non-cumbersome menu in front you...it's time to take your pick. That's exactly what we do.

Look around

The interiors of the place have been done by the owners-Akash and Surbhi Garg. Lot of emphasis has been given to the optimum utilization of space. A decent space between the tables ensures that you can say your little secret to your friend rather than whispering into his ear! Three separate private seating areas will take care of your privacy.

Flip through

This is where Warq scores the brownie point. The only menu that is kept in front of you is the one for starters, so no one is playing the game of please-give-me-sometime-to-decide. The starter menu changes everyday, so if you happen to land up in the same place consecutively for two days you wouldn't be bored.

Lavish spread

First you can hog with your eyes, for the buffet spread looks pretty interesting—lot of colours and whole lot of variety to pick from. But of course, you can't miss your encounter with the regulars dal and paneer. If you want to skip here, you wouldn't be missing much. The buffet at Warq includes five vegetarian starters and five non-veg vegetarian starters. There are 2-3 varieties of soup, six to seven salads, four to five non-vegetarian main course dishes, seven to eight vegetarian main course dishes, two flavoured rice and summing it up are six to eight types of desserts, which change everyday.

Veggie's delight

Often we look at our vegetarian friends and wonder how they sustain in such a limited variety! Here, you find some interesting. Take your pick from Kashmiri dum aloo, hari mirch ka salan, kathal ki biryani, sphagetti aglio e olio and methi matar malai.

Chartbuster

Sphagetti Aglio e Olio, a fusion dish we suggest you should pour some in your plate.

Pass the baton

If you get intimidated by a big mirch, you can pass on the whole dish hari mirch ka salan to your friend's plate or just drop it. No love lost here!

It's heavenly

Give yourself a break from regular North Indian style chicken and try drums of heaven, chicken lolliop, grilled fish in lemon butter sauce, dhaba ghost and steamed sauté prawns. They leave a comfortable taste on your palate.

Sweet tooth

By the time you reach the kuch metha ho jaye section, you are generally full. Even if you are, slice a piece of pineapple upside down cake and a blueberry cheese cake.

Say paneer!
Kandla Nijhowne

It has become a longstanding joke to ‘Say Paneer’ instead of ‘Say Cheese’ when a shutterbug aims his camera at you. My aim today is to pull out a paneer recipe most of us are nervous of attempting at home. Admittedly, there are easier ways to cook paneer, as there are to skin a cat ? The recipe a surely a keepsake and will also come in handy when you are entertaining vegetarian guests.

Ingredients

300 gm fresh paneer

1 tsp each of minced ginger and green chillies

4 tbsp cream

4 tbsp crushed cashew nuts

2 tbsp cornflour

¾ tsp whole jeera

1 tsp dhaniya powder

1 tbsp ginger garlic paste

1½ tsp kasoori methi

2 tbsp oil

1 medium sized onion

2 medium tomatoes

1 tbsp whole garam masala

¼ tsp haldi

a pinch of heeng

a pinch of sugar

Method

Cut paneer into triangles like miniature sandwiches.

Make a slit across the longer side and stuff with a mixture of crumbled paneer, raisins, minced

ginger and green chillies.

Using minimal oil, gently pan sear the triangles on a heavy pan. Keep aside.

Fry the jeera in the remaining oil. When they splutter, turn off the heat and add heeng. This prevents the heeng from burning.

Add whole masalas-cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, peppercorns and toss around further.

Add sliced onion and saute, followed by ginger-garlic paste and tomatoes.

Add haldi, salt and sugar. Cook for a minute, then cool and blend into a fine paste.

Mix the cornflour with a little water and keep ready. (This is called a slurry)

Return the paste to the pan, and add the cornflour slurry. Simmer till thickened.

Add crushed kasoori methi and cream and warm through slightly. Do not boil.

Place the paneer pieces in a shallow platter. Pour the gravy over the pieces till submerged.

Now submerge yourself in this heavenly delight.

WhIte Ball: Aishwariya Daula with her pet pet Perry

“Life has not been the same for me since Perry came into my life,” enthuses the teenager Aishwariya Daula as she cuddles the bunny rabbit. A bundle of white fur with huge strawberry coloured eyes, looks very much the baby of the house as she will eat only with the family and only when her bowl is placed between them. They tried giving food to her near her cage but it was a complete no for the little one. The food too has to be the same whether it is macaroni, noodles or even Kichhdi . “The other day we were having vermicelli with sauce and we gave her some plain but she refused to have it till we put some sauce on it.”

Love Me, Love my bugs Bunny !

The cage is just a formality and mostly for protection when Perry has to sit outside otherwise she has her own favourite place to sit on a special cushion on a sofa or if she wants to ease herself it is back to the cage . “It is amazing how clean she keeps herself by licking herself all the time,” exclaims Aishwariya’s mother. We can make that out as the spotlessly white Perry hops here and there. Always the one to look for attention subtly one year old Perry seems to just cuddle near her owner to feel happy and safe. When they have to attend family functions one of them stays behind to take care of her. Timid and sensitive by nature she gets very scared of loud noises especially the sound of a mixer churning or the cooker blowing the whistle. “Climbing stairs with her is real fun because she can’t climb down and then looks at me with her imploring eyes to get her down,” adds Aishwariya.

Your’s faithfully !

When their friends and rather strangers for her come she does not make any sound but when anybody touches her , the ears perk up and the eyes become wide . Mostly the visitors mistake her for a soft toy! “Giving medicine to her is a tough job and only Aishwariya can give it to her and that too with a dropper only,” says her mother who has made a habit of making a Reiki symbol on Perry every day after she became ill once. With moist eyes they recalled of the time when the little one down with a upset stomach and seemed so uncomfortable that she had to be rushed to the vet.. Another very interesting habit is that Perry will not anybody load her bowl with more than one eatable – once that finishes then she will tap her bowl to ask for more. Nibbling at hermeethi Paranthi Perry sure made a pretty picture with the Daula Family.

stress buster
Say yes to life
Renee singh

We all have good days and bad days. But some days are particularly stressful. These days require some extra efforts towards stress relief. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by almost nothing, this happens because the challenges of life have been piling up and they begin to feel bigger than what they are, making our days totally stressful.

We need to find adequate strategies to calm our overly stressed mind when we are having one of those days and turn a bad day into a day of promise.

Much of our time is spent in chronic stress. This is a condition where your body's stress response is triggered so much that your body stays in a constant state of stress. Very often people just begin to live in the stress mode without even realising it. But there are ways in which we can calm our body's physiology and reverse our stress response in less than five minutes.

Take a meditation break

A well timed meditation session can feel like a mini vacation when you've had an overwhelming day. Regular meditation brings great benefits but even a five minute meditation can put you in a better frame of mind, so that whenever the stressors hit you, you can handle them.

Use a reframing technique

Sometimes stress is how you perceive it. If you see something as a stress rather

than a challenge, it will bring more stress. If you are dramatising your situation and imagining all sorts of negative things, just stop. You require cognitive restructuring techniques.

Locate a supportive shoulder It helps sometimes to have a sympathetic ear. Unburden yourself with a friend. Tell your troubles, don't let it stay in your system. Research tells us that social support is a great stress releaser. Allow your friends to help you feel good about yourself. It's ok to say no.

Many times we have one of those days because we are loaded with commitments and even one false move leads to a string of minor crisis. We have to try to avoid such situations by only taking on commitments that are very important and directly fulfil our goals. It's important to say no to the lesser commitments. We must prioritise.

Have a sense of humour

Laugh in the face of stress, this is the best way to elude it. Laugh and the world laughs with you. Laughter releases endorphins which make you feel better and actually lead you to feel happier. As laughter comes easily to you, stress just melts away.

Just breathe easy

Breathing exercises are a sure shot way of releasing stress. They work quickly, you can do them anywhere, they're free, easy to master and can effectively reverse the stress response. These help in avoiding the negative effects of chronic stress. Breathing Therapy can be effectively applied whenever one is suffering from the consequences of stress in the following ways:

Feeling of tension

Chronic fatigue

Sleeping disorder

Concentration problems

All these conditions which have been built in through stress can be deactivated

from within our systems by following these tools:

Sometimes despite our many efforts we keep coming back to our stressed conditions and you find yourself experiencing the same stressors repeatedly.

Breathing exercises can help you to respond to your stressors. Proactive strategies that can help change your lifestyle are also a good idea.

A dazzling affair
Amarjot Kaur

Here rings the wedding bell yet again and this time it's ringing in all the good with the launch of a new bridal collection outlet, Lakshmi Store at Manimajara. We know knotting it all up is a tedious affair, especially in India, but Rahul Bunty, 34, owner of the store, assures that he would make it simple and sweet.

While inaugurating the function, Garima Singh, additional commissioner, income tax, reveals her fetish for traditional wear as she points at the 80 kalli ka lehenga with zardosi work and embedded stones. “I really like the concept of offering a complete bridal collection for both men and women under one roof,” she says.

Rental Respite

The store offers a variety of bridal wear that you can rent at a minimum price of Rs 5,500 to the maximum of Rs 24,000, including jewellery. “We will provide our customers with loose bridal cloth that they can get stitched as they fancy and then return it to us,” shares Rahul.

The bridal collection is available in traditional Indian, Indo-western and region-specific designs. In addition the silhouettes that they have played
with include Silk, crape, velvet, net, brocade and georgette. For men, the collection includes sherwani, jodhpuri and indo western suits.

If you really want to go the Punjabi way with all the pomp and show, well, here's a catch-a rather beautifully made Barbie-style lehanga that's priced at Rs 44,000 for the daddy's little princess

Bling it up

The Store also provides a range of artificial and silver jewellery in Kundan, American diamond, Polki and pearl. The range includes tikkas, passa, jhumkay, choker and even casual jewellery. “We also have a wide range of parandis and tiaras,” adds Rahul.

Style statement

Fashion icon: Kareena Kapoor

Author Shobhaa De documented Kareena Kapoor's style and glamorous life in Kareena Kapoor: Confessions of a Bollywood Style Diva. The queen of Bollywood talks about trends, style statements, stylish people and more:

Glamorous girls

I feel Angelina Jolie is the most stylish person in the world of glamour. In India, it has to be my sister. She is superbly stylish even at home. She tells me what to wear and what not to wear. My mother set many trends in her time like short kurtas with tight churidars and bouffant. She even wore super kaftans at home.

Love shopping

Saif and I are shopaholics and we shop a lot wherever we go. I buy bags, shoes and dresses. Saif is stylish too. I feel he looks best in jeans, tees and bandanas. He does not always wear Tom Ford suits. I am not too brand-conscious either. I love Zara and Mango because they fit well and look great. I don't always wear a Prada or Gucci.

Smart movies

I feel some of the stylish movies that I have done and seen are Tashan, Student of The Year, Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kambakkht Ishq.

Sex appeal

I feel my eyes are extremely sexy. Both Karisma and I have been blessed with the famous coloured Kapoor eyes. I have green and she has blue. I also believe I am sexy because I am who I am and I am comfortable in my skin. I know my mind and body.

Happening places

I feel Paris is the most stylish city I have ever visited. Everybody over there is well-dressed. They do not wear gowns or formal clothes. They wear really cool jackets and leggings which are casual and chic. The perfect stylish date for me would be dinner at The Ritz with jazz playing in the background.

Jennifer still obsessed with Brad?

Let go: Jennifer Aniston

Former Friends star Jennifer Aniston is reportedly still pining after ex-husband Brad Pitt. The 43-year-old actress, who was married to Pitt from 2000 to2005, has turned to one-on-one therapy in a last-ditch attempt to rid herself of her obsession with the actor.

"From time to time, she even pulls out a box of mementos she's kept — love letters, her handwritten wedding vows, pictures from their romantic vacations abroad, even one of Brad's old, ratty T-shirts that she claims still has his smell on it," a source said.

Aniston, who is engaged to actor Justin Theroux, is so consumed by thoughts of Pitt that she recently enlisted friend and actress Courtney Cox to spy on him by way of their mutual friend David Fincher.

"Jen's always encouraging Courtney to set up dinner dates with David so she can pump him for updates," a source said.

"She tells Courtney she is only interested in knowing what Brad and Angelina's wedding plans are, so that they don't conflict with her own. But Courtney knows her interest runs deeper," added the source.

The source even said that Theroux, "would hit the roof if he knew how much Jen still pines over him (Pitt)... she is beginning to think it could wreck their relationship, so she has gone back into one-on-one counselling — she really wants to dig the old skeletons out of her closet so she can be emotionally unburdened before she walks down the aisle with Justin. "Jen realises that it's high time she let go of her unhealthy attachment to Brad. He has obviously moved on with his life — and the truth is, Jen's very happy with Justin too. But Brad is like some kind of a ghost who constantly haunts her," the source added. — PTI

Crazy cat man

Funnyman Russell Brand says he is a crazy cat man.

The 37-year-old actor said that he loves his beloved Morrissey more than any human.

"He now lives in Los Angeles with me. How did I beat quarantine to get him over there to America? Well I took him over and wore him as a necklace on the plane. He is the one thing that I love in the world the most," Brand said.

The actor named his cat after his favourite singer, the former Smiths star, and said that they are similar.

"I have met the singer. You think you are getting to know him, then he does his own thing," he added.

Brand decided to take his feline friend to America after a pet psychiatrist told him the animal was suffering from separation anxiety. — PTI

A long love letter…

Love sick: Kristen Stewart

Twilight star Kristen Stewart has reportedly sent her on-off boyfriend Robert Pattinson a long love letter. The pair reportedly agreed to a trial separation while Pattinson films The Rover in Australia. Despite agreeing to no contact while he is away, the 23-year-old actress has penned her innermost feelings in a note to the hunky star in a bid to repair their fractured relationship.

"Kristen wrote a long letter, explaining her love to Rob.Even if he can't forgive her, he should know that she is closer to him than anyone else could ever be," a source said. Meanwhile, Stewart is said to be "angry" that Pattinson is not giving her enough attention while he films in Australia. "She was devastated when Rob suggested they go on separation, and Kristen has been eager to visit him, but now she is getting seriously angry at Rob because he is so bad at keeping in contact," a source added.

"With Robert out the country, a thousand miles away working in Australia, Kristen has been missing him badly. Robert is often starting his working day when Kristen is busy and vice versa.

"And he is not the best at sending texts or keeping in touch in the first place. Kristen is angry with him because she thinks he is not giving her enough attention - it is absolutely killing her," the source added. — PTI

Abhishek Bachchan does not get jet-lagged. That is because he does not sleep on his flights, he spends time watching movies and reading. He does not even sleep during the day when he is back and follows his routine to sleep at night. That is a nice tip!
