Freedom fighters grievances to be redressed: DC
Fatehgarh Sahib, January 25 The bankers and the respective SDMs have been directed to approach the freedom fighters personally to resolve the formality with in two days, said Yashvir Mahajan, Deputy Commissioner, while presiding over the meeting with the bankers, District Treasury Officials, respective SDMs and the representatives of freedom fighters here today. The meeting was called to review the decisions being taken in the meeting yesterday presided over by Sarvesh Kaushal, principal secretary, with the Freedom Fighters of district. Deputy Commissioner said all the pensioners and their attendants are duly provided with free bus passes. He said that there is no dues of re-imbursement of indoor treatment are lying pending and no other grievances of the Freedom fighters in the district are lying unaddressed. He refuted the allegation levelled in certain media reports that freedom fighters are not getting pensions regularly and other facilities. Freedom fighter, Gurdial Singh and Babu Singh, appreciated the efforts of State Government for organising camps at the doorsteps of freed fighters to redress their grievances. They said that the camp organised at Fatehgarh Sahib presided over by Sarvesh Kaushal, principal Secy proved boon for the families of freedom fighters as their certain grievances were redressed on the spot by the officials. |

Three drug peddlers held
Fatehgarh Sahib, January 25 All the accused were allegedly involved in the sale of drugs, intoxicants in the district. SSP, HS Mann, said as per the special campaign launched by the district police against drug peddler, Badali Ala Singh, the police had erected nakas for checking of vehicles at T-point during search of a vehicle police recovered 3,000 tablets and 5 gm smack. The peddler arrested has been identified as Satbir Singh, alias Satta, a resident of Hindu Pur village. The Fatehgarh Sahib police has also arrested Gurpal Singh, a resident of Rampur Kaleran village and recovered 6,000 tablets and 80 intoxicant capsules from his possession, which he was carrying to deliver to petty peddlers. Similarly, the police also arrested Parabhjot Singh, alias Mintu, and recovered 3,000 intoxicant tablets and 5 gm Smack from his custody. SSP said all the accused have been booked under NDPS Act. |

Illegal sand mining: Police impounds 7 tippers
Ropar, January 25 It was around midnight that a police party spotted illegal mining in Sutlej River near Attari village, said Chamakur Sahib SHO Palvinder Singh. On reaching the spot, it was found that seven tippers were loaded with sand by the accused. The drivers of tippers and others fled abandoning their vehicles on the spot, he said. It was on January 16 that the Ropar Deputy Commissioner had decided that over 16 teams comprising three police officers in each team would be deployed in areas of 16 police stations all over district to keep check on the illegal mining. He had also warned the officials stating that incharge official of the concerned area would be held personally responsible if any illegal mining was noticed in his area. |

Ambala, January 25 The principal of the college, Vivek Kohli, said the students should be aware about their duties and rights. He asked the students to spare some time for social activates. The students also present a skit on this occasion in which the legal right of a citizen was explained. |
Nine acquitted in murder case
Mohali, January 25 The court of Rajinder Aggarwal, Additional District and Sessions Judge, acquitted Surjit Singh, Jarnail Singh, Bhupinder Kaur, Swaran Kaur, Gurpreet Singh, Rajwant Kaur, Balwinder Kaur, Akbar Ali and Darshan Singh in the case of the murder of Surinder Begum. The incident had taken place on April 25, 2011. Neighbours of the deceased had allegedly beaten up Surinder Begum and then poured kerosene on her and set her clothes on fire. She died later at the PGI, Chandigarh. The police had registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC |

Man arrested for producing false evidence in court
Panchkula, January 25 Sube Singh was appearing in a case before the Judge Saurabh Gosian. It was after the judge asked to check Singh’s papers it came to the fore that he had already given evidence in a case ‘State vs Vikram’. Sube has been booked under Section 420 (forgery) and has been sent to judicial custody by the court. |

Golf championship from Feb 12
Chandigarh, January 25 The boys and girls of age group nine years and above can participate in the championship. A cut may be applied on the second day depending upon number of participants. Officials said that entries would close on February 10. Entry forms as well as Rules and Regulations for the championship are available at reception counter of the CGA Golf Range and Chandigarh Golf Club. Draws will be posted on Feb 11 by evening at the CGA Golf Range and Chandigarh Golf Club notice boards. Only residents of Chandigarh are eligible to participate in the championship. — TNS |
