The ripe fruits of Diospyos digyna are popularly called “chocolate pudding fruit” as the pulp of this fruit is chocolate in colour and it can be made into tasty pudding by mixing it with cream and adding a touch of rum or vanilla. The commercial name of this fruit is black sapote. Chocolate pudding fruit is a native of Mexico. The dark green fruits are large, up to 10 cm wide, at maturity containing dark chocolate coloured soft pulp inside. The fruit is quite nutritive. It is rich in vitamin C. It contains four times vitamin C than oranges. It is almost fat free, and contains 15 g carbohydrates, 22 mg calcium and 23 mg phosphorus per 100 g of edible fruit.
