Annona squamosa or Sugar Apple or Sitaphal is a multipurpose small tree. Sitaphal is mostly grown as a wasteland crop in the arid hilly region of South West Rajasthan and the neighbouring Gujarat.

High calorie fruits are used by athletes for high energy. Powdered seeds are used for removing head lice. It is also used as an effective pesticide in agriculture and horticulture. The leaves have anti-diabetic properties. It is also known for its hepato-protective powers. The efficacy of the alcoholic extract of the leaves and stem in malignant tumours has been proven. It is anti-depressant. It can be used in epilepsy and in spinal cord disorders. Fruits are sweet, haematinic (a medicine which increases the haemoglobin), cooling, act as a sedative. Seeds are insecticidal.

Roots are powerful purgatives and used in dysentery. The seeds help fight plant pests.
