The stylish Punjabi screen
Ashima Batish

Punjabi cinema has seen a makeover, not only in terms of topics and locations, but also the slow yet steady growth of fashion stylists…

When Punjabi films were all about jatt, zameen and his badla, fashion in the respective territory was restricted to plain kurtas and check tehmat for male actors, and randomly embellished salwar suits for the females. Cut to the present times, when the films focus on the life of youngsters, their camaraderie and issues; so it is natural that their looks have also undergone a complementing make-over.

Stylists are often confused with fashion designers, who are only responsible for the look of a particular actor in the film. On the other hand, a fashion stylist keeps a tab on the accessories and make-up of all the actors to ensure that they look every bit the character they essay on screen. — Rajit Kumra

For long, we have discussed the same — how actors sport casual yet chic costumes, how the accessories are never in excess and how the blush on heroines’ cheeks is so measured! The change has been brought about by the relentless efforts of fashion stylists, who work really hard to give appropriate looks to actors, which are in tandem with the characters they play on screen. Yet, there is a long way to go. Not all Punjabi films can afford a stylist though; monetary constraints do interfere.

It’s not that Punjabi film industry doesn’t realise the importance of the services of stylists. Whenever the budget of the film allows, a stylist is taken on board. Just like famous Bollywood stylist Rajit Kumra, who has worked with Rani Mukerjee and Chitrangdha Singh, was hired for the film Burrahh. Rajit says that the Punjabi film industry will take time to understand the job profile of fashion stylists completely. “It’s often confused with fashion designers, who are only responsible for the look of a particular actor in the film. On the other hand, a stylist keeps a tab on the accessories and make-up of all the actors to ensure that they look every bit the character they essay on screen.”

If hiring stylists can add to the cost of making a film, he believes, it can also help cut down the price. “The kurtis that I picked for Burrahh didn’t cost more than Rs 300, but they were worked upon and in the end looked as if straight out of a designer studio.”

Another popular fashion stylist of Punjabi films, Hari Nakai, who was also the stylist of Rajneeti, was employed to design the Army look of actors in the film Dharti. Later, he managed the looks of all actors in Jatt & Juliet’ as well as Yaar Anmulle. If the costumes and accessories of lead actors of Jatt and Juliet, Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru bajwa, increased the style quotient of the film, the looks of the characters Shampy (Rana Ranbir) and his father (BN Sharma) brought about comic relief. Hari rues the fact that producers of Punjabi films readily spend any amount of money to rope-in popular actors, but don’t have the same approach when it comes to stylists. “The concept is still new to the films here,” confesses Hari.

There have been films that have minted money at the box-office with or without stylists. “When any production house observes that a film made money without the services of a stylist, they feel he or she can be done away with. However, a comparative analysis between films that had a stylist and ones that did not clearly reflects the stark difference,” he adds.

Director Anurag Singh of Jatt and Juliet fame takes pride that he involved a stylist. The film, he says, is not just remembered for its comedy and storyline, but also for the styling part of Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa. “Just like an art director is important for the sets of the film, fashion stylists are required to design characters. A mismatch of personality and costumes can eventually affect the whole film.” At the same time, for the sake of a growing industry, it won’t be wrong if producers ask stylists to compromise on what they charge. Let’s see how many comply!

Money matters

Budget remains a primary concern though and comparisons with Bollywood are not fair. Director Navaniat Singh has a point to make, “The production houses that back Bollywood films are different from the ones that fund our films. Our strength is story-telling and it’s better if we focus on that. Once the industry gets a strong footing, rest will follow…as will fashion stylists.”

Sixty-two years in theatre, Parvesh Kumar Sethi, is still active on stage. An actor, make-up artist and director, this theatre thespian from Chandigarh is the recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2012. “It is an honour that has made me very happy and proud. I hoped to get it in the field of make-up, but having received one in acting comes as a pleasant surprise,” says Sethi.

As many as 500 plays that he has acted in, Sethi has given make-up in countless others and helmed a few as a director. In fact, he is enthusiastically looking forward to playing Colonel Surat Singh in the play Court Martial to be held at the Tagore Theatre. “It will be my 386th outing as Colonel Surat. I have been so engrossed in this role that many times I have introduced self as Colonel,” he laughs.

Having retired from the post of assistant general manager, Haryana Financial Corporation, Chandigarh, in 2001, it is theatre that has kept Sethi going. With one or two plays a month, Sethi credits the stage for keeping him strong.

Incidentally, this momentous journey started when he was just seven. “My first brush with theatre happened when I was in school. Without anyone for an inspiration, it was make-up and acting that really fascinated me.”

Without much formal training, he has learnt the craft from experience. “I worked with Indu Ghosh from the National School of Drama on a play. I consider her my guru,” he says.

Despite six decades of experience, it’s only a few plays that he has directed. “One needs to give time to learn any craft. It’s sad that today youngsters jump into the field with little knowledge and experience.”

In his journey, Sethi has enjoyed working with directors — both celebrated and young. “Balwant Gargi, Devendra Raj Ankur, Sudesh Gupta and Umesh Kant are a few names that I have enjoyed working with.”

There are two persons that Sethi credits his success to — his father KL Sethi and wife Kamlesh Sethi. “When everyone else discouraged me from pursuing theatre, it was my father who stood by me. Later, my wife despite her hectic service schedule managed the home front single-handedly, leaving me free to pursue my passion.”

To the hopefuls in theatre, Sethi has this word of advice, “Be dedicated and work hard.” And for those who want to pursue make up, “Observation is the key. I have spent hours at the Old Delhi Railway Station observing people.”

Sethi today teaches acting and the art of make-up to young aspirants. “I also train people in Urdu...something that my master taught when I was 11.”

As for himself, Sethi is looking forward to receiving the award from the President along with his better half!

In thick soup!
Jasmine Singh

Winter is at its peak and there is no better way to ward-off the chill than with a hot bowl of soup…

The winter sun is off to a vacation for a while, leaving behind the clouds, fog and fresh dew drops. So, how about enjoying the chill for a change? And what better way than enjoying with a steamy bowl of hot soup!

Take out that pot from your kitchen closet, place it in on the burner, toss in a lot of vegetables, add the basic ingredients….and there you go, the warm nutritious soup is ready. Better still, head for the nearest restaurant and order your favourite soup from the menu. With extra chillies please!

Warming up

Before you head for the main course, just grab a bowl of hot soup and see it your appetite growing! As executive chef from Park Plaza, Nitin Rajan, says, “Soups help in digestion and increase appetite, which is why they are preferred before dinner. You can have soup any time of the day. It is better if you don’t have it with breads because it should be taken as an appetiser.” Chef Nitin has come up with a Hot Chimney Soup in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian categories. Other than this, Tamatar narangi ka shorba and Paya shorba are some of his other favourites.

Just in case you are stuck between a shorba and a soup, here is the thing. Shorba is an Indian version of soup, which is thinner. “In Chinese soups corn flour is added for thickness whereas in Oriental recipes, we use Roux for the same,” chef Nitin elaborates a bit.

Where ‘taste meets health’ is the ideal combination and it holds true for soups. Amidst the fancy and different varieties, Hot and sour and Talumein are still the ‘hot’ favourite with people. “Talumein has a special taste of garlic that makes it likeable,” Says Sous Chef Madan Singh Negi of Warq and Kava, Chandigarh.

If you are in a mood to try a different soup everyday, Warq gives you this option as well. Veg Manchow, Cream of tomato, Tomato dhaniya shorba, Yakhni shorba (mutton stock), Chicken talumein, cream of asparagus and Cream of broccoli are some varieties that can be enjoyed at Warq.

Soup might not be the winning dish on the table, but it sure classifies as a ‘must have’ especially during winter. The Sea food soup with Swagat, Chandigarh, gets thumbs-up from people each day. But as we said before, there is no beating the Cream of tomato and Talumein soup!

Warm up

The word soup is of Sanskrit origin! It is derived from the su and po, which means good nutrition.

Soups are great as fillers when you are on a diet. Don’t want to stuff yourself at dinner? Have a soup just before it. A cup of soup also makes for a smart low-calorie snack. Simply opt for a clear soup.

Want to remove excess fat from your soup? Simply take a lettuce leaf and draw it across the surface of the soup. The excess fat sticks to the leaf. You can also skim the excess fat off with a large spoon.

We ‘eat’ and don’t drink soup. In most cultures, soup is had as a part of the meal. According to etiquette experts, since we consume soup with a spoon as opposed to sipping it from a bowl, we ‘eat’ it.

If your birthday is January 3...

The year 2013 will be a mix of varied feelings and experiences. Your success at work place will take you to cloud nine, but a little negative atmosphere at home won't let you enjoy much. This year you will be able to save a lot of money to spend on your family. Your expenses are not a matter of concern as finances are good.

If you are in a relationship, be careful in handling situations. There are chances that some fake people will win your trust by making false promises. If you are a student and looking for an institution, then stay alert to choose the best. There are also chances that a new member will be added to your family.

Do not avoid health-related issues and keep yourself away from extra hours of work. Desire for change seems too over-powering this year. You can even receive better offers, but be careful not to change your job in haste. You'll see your business multiply as if by magic. Make the most of this wave of positivism to start up profitable collaborations. If you work as an employee, be cordial to your superior. Act in a timely manner to avoid problems.

Take a serious look at the world around you; appreciate peace and harmony. With all that you have going for you right now, you have good reason to be confident that you will win. Your knowledge and good sense will help you move ahead. Relationships will become stronger. You will maintain cordial atmosphere at the domestic front and receive whole-hearted support from your spouse.

For some, there will be a big change in career. As soon as you finish your study, you end up with a totally new life, which means more responsibility and struggle.

Your health will fully depend on how you take care of it. Keep up your exercise schedule and take preventive medicines for controlling chronic ailments.

Mood: Initially stressed, improved later.

Compatible signs: Aquarius, Pisces, Gemini

Lucky colours: Blue, Mauve

Lucky days: Monday.

Meet the multi-tasker

Anoop Soni is not the kind who likes to sit idle. He is already hosting Crime Patrol and acting in Balika Vadhu. Now, he has also taken up role of a judge on a reality show. He also talks about his anger on the recent Delhi gangrape victim.

You have signed another show, this time as a judge. Tell us something about the same.

Yes I have. I will be judging a television reality show called Big Fame Star on Big Magic. The initial rounds have started and soon the auditions will be conducted. I haven’t shot for it yet but I expect it would be fun and interesting. It will be a great platform for aspiring actors.

Do you think shows like Crime Patrol influence people?

I think it creates awareness and educates people. Moreover what is shown in serials is the reflection of society. To change our society, we should treat sons and daughters as equals.  I am very saddened and angry by the rape case.

With Anandi married, do you think the role of your family in the show will reduce?

I don’t think so. Soon Jagya will be back and then the story will move forward. Our family is very important in the story so it can’t be sidelined.

What do you think of your co-star Smita Bansal taking up Nach Baliye?

I think it is amazing that she is there in the show. I saw her dance and it was fantastic. Their performance was superb and it was great to see some chemistry between the real life couples. I hope and wish the best for her.

How’s your son Imaan doing?

Absolutely fine. It’s a joy to see him grow.

Over and OUT

After a year on the tube, hit show Saubhagyvati Bhava will end on January 18. Post Harshad Chopda and Sriti Jha's exit, the show had taken a dip in TRPs. Angad Hasija and Riddhi Dogra’s show is rumoured to replace it.

Punjabi Tadka
Energy unlimited
Jasmine Singh

He needs no introduction - a cliché, but one that couldn't have found better usage. Jazzy B, the Punjabi singer is probably one of the few singers whose personal style has been copied by his fans. However, one thing that cannot be copied is the electrifying energy and the peppiness in his numbers. From Naag samhb lai zulfan dey, aaya main gadi mod key, to Maharaja, Jazzy is undoubtedly the crown prince of bhangra. With his party anthem being the latest fad on Youtube, the singer would rather talk in Punjabi…sans accent.

It's hot

He laughs. My latest track with Yo Yo Honey Singh This Party is getting hot is ranked as the most-watched video in India on Youtube. I can't believe it; we got one million views in just 80 hours of uploading. In fact, it is being played very regularly in the party circuit. I can see so many online communities formed as a response to the number.

The acting bug

Best of Luck is my debut Punjabi movie for which I came to Punjab, and I am here till March. Punjabi cinema is really doing well so this is the time when I can see where I stand as far as acting is concerned. I am waiting for the release of the movie.

Going international

Collaborations are a good way of bringing together the best of the talent. I am in talks with some American artists; I would want to collaborate on a global scale and take Punjabi music a notch higher.

Live wire

A singer has to record a song in the studio to create a number, but I prefer singing live on stage, checking the response of the audiences and seeing them enjoy.

Love India

I have performed all across the globe; however, I have enjoyed performing in India always, especially at melas and akhaaras. The crowd is always so encouraging.

When not singing

Well, I play hockey and spend time with my kids and family. My kids are fond of singing and playing football. So, I will wait till they pick up their profession. As of now, I just look forward to spending time with them.

GET PHYSICAL
Fit ‘n’ fine
Anil Juneja

We all are paying more and more attention to health and fitness. Everyone wants to be fit and in good shape. But, do we know the actual meaning of the fitness and what does it mean to be physically fit? Many people have an incomplete understanding of what fitness actually is. Some of them think fitness means being able to do hundreds of crunches or run a marathon or lift heavy weights. And some of them equate fitness with losing weight and being thin. But being thin does not necessarily mean being fit because someone who is thin can be unfit also. And even having huge muscles and razor sharp six-pack abs like a bodybuilder does not necessarily have much to do with fitness. Overall fitness is made up of five main components. These components are Cardiovascular endurance, Muscle strength, Muscle endurance, Flexibility and Body composition. And Physical fitness is the ability to balance all of these components.

All these components of physical fitness are interdependent upon each other.  Individually a single component only addresses single area of fitness. We even can’t rank one component of physical fitness over the other. So this way getting fit means doing a combination of activities. But we definitely can pay more attention to the weakest component. For example if you think you have a very good stamina for aerobic activities but your muscles are very stiff and you can’t even touch your toes, then you need to focus more on your flexibility training. In the same way, if you can perform stretching exercise very easily because your body is already quite flexible but you don’t feel strength in your muscles, then your focus should be more on strength training. Otherwise I would say always plan a balanced exercise program which should consider all the components of fitness because we can only improve our functional fitness with the help of a balanced exercise program.

Improving functional fitness means building a body capable of doing real-life activities in real-life positions, not just lifting a certain amount of weight in an idealized posture created by a gym machine. So it is all about linking fitness to real functions. The idea behind achieving Functional fitness through balanced exercise program is that you are not training only for any marathon race or to look more attractive and slim but you are training for life.

CELEB POINT
Let the fire simmer
Divya Dutta

The year has gone bye and I can’t say like everytime ki pata hi ni chala. Work was good this year with some lovely films in my kitty and lots of love from family and friends. We lost a lot of film legends including my friend cinematographer of Special 26, Bobby Singh, the most pleasant and happy person died of a crab allergy.

And my thoughts don't get away from Nirbhaya. I saw her pictures; tears just didn’t stop tickling out. What gruesome way the culprits chose to finish an innocent life.

She had the will to live and be strong and the entire nation stood with her. Everyone gave their own name to Nirbhaya, Damini, they could relate to her as their own and she became the reason for the nation to stand in unison.

The mood has not been festive. We all want results now, the culprits should be punished and I personally feel they should be castrated and they should live with it all their life. Death would be so easy.

What saddens us is that in spite of the hullabaloo, we still hear of rape cases everywhere. What a dirty mindset. Why can't the government stand with the people who vote for it and bring results without the so called delays because of rules and laws? Why can’t we have stronger laws for such crimes? Why is there no fear in them, why do they think kuch ni hoga, the courts will take ages to give justice and everyone will move on.

Why can’t we have more police, vigilant enough to take care and hear us out? Why don't we have people who don’t want to interfere ki yaar main kyu panga lun? Why can’t we all just dare this time and not let the fire die down.

The people this time stand together and this is the strongest sign of change coming by.

Can we also teach our sons to behave when we teach our daughters to live in maryada. Can we all hold hands tight this time and make it work? Let's start it this year on this hopeful note.

Future shock
Get smart!
Nishtha Shukla Anand

Two things happened recently. iPhone 5 has finally hit China (a big market for Apple) and a judge in the US has declined Apple’s request to ban Samsung from selling its smartphones. With these developments, Apple is likely to gain market share globally. Equally, Samsung is set to take away a lot from their pie. This has made the war of the titans fiercer.

Where the iPhone was a clear winner in its category till recently, the Samsung S3 came as a strong competitor for iPhone 5 in the smartphones category. The iPhone 5 and Samsung S3 have been breaking their own sales records. However, neither of the phones has a dedicated market, certainly not in India. Ours is a price-sensitive country and we take our gadgets seriously. If you’re contemplating which one to pick, let me confuse you at first.

Also in the fray is the Nokia Lumia 900. While it would be more appropriate to evaluate Nokia Lumia 920 here because it’s a closer competitor, we cannot make that comparison simply because the Finnish manufacturer does not plan to launch its newest offering in India yet.

To understand these three phones better, let’s look at them under four primary parameters—looks, technology and price.

The Look: Apple has an eye for design and that comes out well in the iPhone 5 as well. This one has a bigger screen than its predecessors and the aluminum construction makes the quality of this phone premium. Not far behind is the S3. It’s has a polycarbonate construction for a no non-sense look and it has a bigger screen than the iPhone 5 at 4.8 inches. So if you’re one for better view, S3 works in your favour. Yes, the iPhone 5 does not have a camera bump, which the S3 does have. So if you want a flat back on your phone, iPhone 5 could be your choice. For those who like colours on phones, Nokia Lumia 900 has some good options. The Lumia 900 is a more stylised phone with clean lines and a wide screen. The Technology: Samsung S3 has Google’s mobile operating system Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which makes it a convenient phone for most users. If you’re planning to buy this phone later, Samsung is also planning an Android Jelly Bean 4.2 update to the S3. The phone also comes loaded with the S Voice, Pop up Play for viewing video while browsing and a Dropbox app.

The iPhone 5 has Apple’s iOS that makes syncing it with other iProducts a breeze. It also comes with interesting apps such as FaceTime and Passbook that are relevant to fast-paced lives. Uploads and downloads are fast on the iPhone 5 at 1.9x and 4.8x respectively. Lumia 900 is a Microsoft Windows phone, an OS that’s picking up well. It also comes with useful features such as HD video capture and front-facing camera. The XBox Live gaming and Zune music player apps also appeal. The Price: Here’s the big one. If the iPhone 5 is tempting, watch out. It’s also about a 10k more expensive. The S3 and Lumia 900 are comparable in terms of the price, heating up the war of smartphones.

It’s rocking
In classical mould

There is an obvious similarity between the two romantic numbers from Dabangg 1 and Dabangg 2. Yet it doesn’t matter as long as the quality of music and lyrics aren’t compromised with. Dagabaaz Re is a beautiful song, shot equally well. The semi-classical music of the song makes it sound different from the usual romantic numbers of present times. Salman Khan is looking as adorable as he was in Tere Mast Mast Do Nain.

Ria Bedi, class XII student

Beautiful number

Dagabaaz Re to Dabangg 2 is what Tere Mast Mast Do Nain was to Dabangg. It has been sung beautifully by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghosal. The song has been choreographed well and Salman Khan has done complete justice with his antics; Sonakshi Sinha didn’t disappoint either. The dance steps are simple, but very graceful. Dabangg 2 hasn’t failed the Chulbul Pandey fans when it comes to music.

Neha Jain, MCMDAV student

Musical treat

Dagabaaz Re is a typical Bollywood romantic number that doesn’t have anything new to offer, but the song composed by music director duo Sajid Wajid is a treat for music lovers.

Playback singing by Shreya Ghosal and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has complemented the melodious music of the song. Not to forget, the performance by Salman Khan is entertaining. Dagabaaz Re will do for the movie what Tere Mast mast Do Nain did for Dabangg last year. It sure is a musical treat.

Not bothered about Rs 100 crore club

Anushka Sharma’s last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan may have managed to get her into the elite 100 crore club in Bollywood but the actress feels the new benchmark would not help her much in her individual career.

With the feat, the 24-year-old actress also got closer to contemporaries like Sonakshi Sinha and Asin, who have the highest number of century hits to their credit along with seniors like Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.

“I don’t really understand how much being a part of this 100 crore club genuinely helps me as an actress. I don’t have experience to still ascertain how a 100 crore success could make any difference to my career.

“I am happy that people have liked my film but the way I look at it, sometimes there are films that cater to certain segment of audience and may not always get those crores coming in. Jab Tak Hai Jaan has made money but I don’t see any of that affecting me,” Anushka said.

The actress, who made her debut with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shah Rukh Khan, ended 2012 on a high with director Yash Chopra’s last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan turning out to be a success at the box office.

“I am really happy people liked me for my performance. Honestly, being a part of Yashji’s film was a huge honour,” she said. — PTI

Marriage is secondary

Scarlett Johansson recently admitted that marriage is not important to her, as it has no relevance to her at this point of time.

The 28-year-old actress, whose short-lived marriage to actor Ryan Reynolds left her jaded, has revealed that relationships with actors can have their downside and that she has no plans to tie the knot anytime soon.

The Prestige star told a magazine that marriage has no relevance to her now because she got married at a very young age and it was incredibly romantic as she liked being married, but now she finds it different and asserted that it is hard to put into words. The actress further said that she believes being in a functioning relationship doesn't necessarily mean one has to be married.

Johansson, who is said to be dating French journalist Romain Dauriac, 30, also said that she finds never thinking about marriage, not at all weird. — ANI

Hunt is on…

After Ameesha Patel walked out of Singh Saheb The Great, director Anil Sharma says the team is on the lookout for a replacement. She was to feature opposite Sunny Deol.

"We have not finalised the leading lady yet. Right now we are shooting only Sunny's major part in Bhopal. Once we are done with his shoot, we will hunt for the leading lady," Sharma said in an interview.

In mid-December 2012, Ameesha announced she is stepping out of the project due to "ever-changing schedules". When Sharma was asked about the reason, he said: "Ameesha is a friend. If at all we need her back in the film, I can call her anytime. She will never say no."

Sharma last worked with Sunny and Ameesha in the 2001 hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. He says Sunny has become more professional over the years, and shooting for Singh Saheb The Great reminds him of shooting for Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.

"It's always fun to work with Sunny. He has always been a perfectionist and professional. Now over the years he has become more professional. It reminds me of our Gadar days," said Sharma.Sunny plays the role of a collector in the film, which is a satire on corruption.

Good girl not ‘happy’

She might be one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, but Anne Hathaway says her 'good girl' image with no sex appeal is not interesting.

The 30-year-old actress, who is tipped for an Oscar for her performance in Les Miserables, said she is "not cool" since fans approaching her want "a hug not a photo" as a result of her reputation.

"I'm not Rihanna. I'm not cool. When people come up to me in the street, they often want a hug not a photo, and they want that because they like my work.

"For a long time it was me and her [her manager] against the world. I was seen as this bizarre-world good-girl cartoon that I in no way identified with - very vanilla, very sweet, very accessible and not interesting. I had no grit, no sex appeal," said Hathaway.

After her "secret" marriage to Adam Shulman in September, Hathaway has told of her worries about turning 30, as well as the effect of her personal life on her performance.

"It doesn't help that the new crop of girls is so gorgeous, and so 22 years old. But I'm excited about it (turning 30)," she said. – PTI

HEART talk
Go slow & easy
Parvesh Rana

I am an 18-year-old girl working as a dance tutor part time. I have realised that I am pretty good in choreography and should pursue it. But my parents are totally against making dancing as a profession. What can I do?

Sakshi Chauhan, Chandigarh

You should definitely pursue your studies and finish them before you decide to take a plunge. If you think you are good at dance, you should take lessons in it, but not at the cost of your studies. Later on if you think you still want to do it, go ahead.

I am a 45 year old man and a single parent. I want to adopt another kid, but my daughter completely detests this. How should I convince her?

Mahesh, Panchkula

This is a tricky situation, you definitely need to sit and talk to your daughter. Without her consent and willingness, I don't think you should take this step. You can always explain the reason behind this and involve her in the entire process.

Tiding over the bad times

Actor Ben Affleck says there was a phase in his life when he felt nobody liked him.

The 40-year-old, who has worked in movies like Good Will Hunting, Gone Baby Gone and Argo feels he was targeted by some people for no fault of his.

"Unfortunately there's an aspect of that that's like one of those fights you see on YouTube where one of them falls down and then a bunch of people who are standing around come over and kick the person.

"They don't know them, they have no involvement in the fight, but they recognise a moment that they can get a free shot in, and for some people it's just too much to resist," said Affleck.

"And that was definitely me at that point. I was the guy. I was the designated person to loathe. I made a bunch of movies that didn't work. I was ending up in the tabloids. I don't know what the lesson is, except that you just have to find your compass," he added. — IANS

Onscreen presence

The onscreen chemistry between Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan Teja in the Zanjeer remake is surprisingly refreshing, says filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia.

"The chemistry of Priyanka and Ram Charan Teja is looking 2,000 times better than what I had expected. They both are looking surprisingly refreshing onscreen," Lakhia said.

The movie is the remake of the 1973 film of the same name. Priyanka joined the cast and crew for the film's second schedule in Hyderabad. Lakhia said: "It was superb shooting in Hyderabad. We finished the second schedule at a stretch. The film has shaped up very well... that's all I can say as a director."

Produced by Reliance Entertainment, Amit Mehra and Flying Turtle Films, Zanjeer will release April 12, 2013.

However, she admits she likes to "experiment" with her hair and enjoys having someone look after her make-up and styling because it makes her feel "better."

"My hair is naturally curly, and I use a curling iron to create a spiral look for a night out. I love having my hair and make-up done because it makes me look like a better version of myself. I love experimenting," she said. The 23-year-old's "everyday essentials are eyeliner, lipstick and mascara". – IANS
