After visiting the centre it was found that only two computer operators and one peon were working at the centre and there was no sitting place for public here. Nearly 200 persons visit the centre for different type of works as to get marriage certificate, caste certificate, kandi area certificate, residential certificate, and rural area certificate, copies of land registrations, senior citizen card, etc.

Sources said even stationary items do not reach on the time here, which also cause delay in the functioning. Staff of this centre had written to the authorities concerned to provide the staff as one cashier and one delivery operator for the smooth functioning here.

Staff of the Suvidha Center functions from a small room, which is not sufficient for the proper functioning. Meanwhile, the SDM, Inderjeet Kaur Kang, said the centre would be shifted on the first floor of the same building soon to remove the problem of sitting place and that the staff required would also be recruited. She informed that proposal regarding this would be sent to the DC soon.

Fatehgarh Sahib Nov 25
Strong resentment prevails among the social, religious and Hindu organisation of Bassi Pathana town against the resolution passed by the local municipal council to sell prime land of Dasehra ground to generate income for the development of the town.

Hundreds of residents including representatives of Mandir Committees, social organisations, Dasehra Committee, Brahmin Sabha, Ram Lila Committee and other trader's organisations today held a meeting under the leadership of Ashok Gautam and decided to oppose the decision of the council to sale a portion of Dussehra ground.

They declared to launch an agitation if the resolution passed by the council was not rejected by the local bodies department. They also condemned the role of local MLA Nirmal Singh for supporting the resolution during meeting as he had promised to give ownership rights of Dasehra ground to Dasehra Committee.

While talking to the media persons, advocate Manpreet Singh Sahi and Ashok Gautam said that it is unfortunate that councillors in its meeting passed a resolution to sale a portion of Dasehra ground to generate income. They condemned the role of Nirmal Singh MLA and newly elected council president Raman Gupta for supporting the resolution and appreciated the role of Pritpal Singh Dharni and Anu Jhanjhi councillors for opposing the resolution.

They said that the decision of the council has heart the religious sentiments of the residents, particularly Hindu community. They said that there was only one Dasehra ground in the town and it has been in the possession of the Dasehra Committee since 1966. They added if a front portion of Dasehra ground is sold, there wouldn’t be any space left to celebrate the festival. They declared that the social, religious and Hindu organisations would not allow the sale of the ground at any cost.

Lashing out at MLA they said that while presiding over prize distribution ceremony of Ram Lila, MLA had announced to hand over the Dasehra ground to Dasehra Committee. But now he got passed a resolution to sell it. The residents have appealed to the Chief Minister and to local bodies minister not to allow the sale of Dasehra ground portion, which may disturb the hard earned peace of the town.

Moreover, the development should not be at the cost of hurting religious sentiments. They warned to initiate agitation if the council did not withdraw the resolution.

Deepankar Sharda
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, November 2
Blame it on lethargic bureaucracy or lack of interest in sports, which led to the delay in laying the new AstroTurf Field, at the Hockey Stadium of Sector 42, here. The Tribune has been highlighting the matter in its columns. But it seems that the UT Sports Department is still struggling to get bidders for laying the new field, here.

As per information, the life of presently laid Astroturf had expired during the year 2008-09 and the officials are still working on inviting tenders.

The new field was expected to be laid by the end of year 2011. But later, it was delayed due to a review of the demand notice inviting tender (DNIT) specifications and till date, the present year, towards its end, witnessed only deadlines.

“If it took a year or two to come up with the basic requirement for a game, one can easily judge, the interest of officials in promoting sports, here. The present condition of hockey field is not as per international standards and needs to be upgraded soon,” said a coach, on condition of anonymity.

On the other hand, Sunil Bhatia, director sports said, the department is still going through the process of inviting tenders. “We are working on all aspects and also working some specifications. Hopefully, we will come over the hurdles soon and invite the tenders,” said Sunil Bhatia, director sports, UT Sports Department.

The new turf is expected to be of blue playing arena with pink border including specifications like 2 ball rebound (vertical) mean 100 mm-400 mm, ball roll mean 9m to15m, individual tests +10 per cent from mean deviation 3 degree, underfoot friction coefficient of friction 0.6-1.0 individual tests +0. One from mean, impact response 40 to 65 per cent, individual tests +5 per cent from mean, pile pad deformation 40 per cent individual tests +2 per cent from mean, 7 pitch dimensions and markings will be kept in mind, including friction of the turf, ball moving, ball blockade, ball run and water retention.
