Recently there was bad news as well as good news contained in a single headline of a newspaper. The headline was ‘Cop thrashed in police headquarters’. The bad news was that four cops, including a DSP, thrashed a cop inside the police headquarters in Sector 9, Chandigarh. Beating anybody mercilessly is a bad thing as such. But the good part of the news was that for a change the cops were not beating a common man this time.

The modern definition of crime news is that if somebody is given a sound beating in a police station, it is no news but if a policeman himself is beaten inside a police station that is news. Usually, if somebody gets stuck in the trap of the police, he can only get out by pleasing the men in khaki. But when the victim himself is a cop, he cannot grease other cop’s palms.

‘Police ka danda’ is famous for its ability to make anyone confess to anything. A chain snatcher made off with a lady’s gold chain. Since the lady knew the Superintendent of Police, so the SP pressurised the SHO of the area to hunt for the snatcher Six sketches of the snatcher were made, according to the description given by the lady, and were circulated to all police stations. After two days, the SP asked the SHO about the progress in the case, the SHO said, "Sir, we have already nabbed five guys, based on those six sketches and all of them have admitted to the crime!"
