Osage orange (Maclura pomifera), also called hedge-apple or horse-apple, is a fruit that grows in some parts of USA. This fruit can repel spiders, cockroaches and mosquitoes. In earlier days, Americans used to keep osage orange fruits under their beds to keep away spiders and insects. These fruits contain a natural substance called elemol which can repel spiders, several species of mosquitoes, cockroaches, crickets and ticks. An insect-repelling device using osage orange has also been designed for home use. This device was granted a patent this year.
