N-choe to be pollution-free by year-end: Chandigarh MC

The then Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal had observed: “Le Corbusier, who planned the City Beautiful, wanted to retain the water body to keep the residents of the city in contact with nature. The choe is a seasonal rivulet and when it flows perennially, it makes one curious about the origin of water.” Taking suo motu cognisance of a news report carried in these columns, Justice Mudgal had also asked the administration to specify “the steps contemplated to improve the condition of the choe”. |

Archers face hard time
Chandigarh, September 27 The participants faced hard time focusing on their targets as trees obstructed their view. “We were earlier told the competition will be organised in the PU campus but after reaching here, the venue was changed. For officials, this might be the best place to conduct the tourney but according to us it is not. Trees were obstructing players’ views and falling leaves distracted them. Many even lost their arrows in the green belt, situated right behind the targets,” said a coach of visiting college, seeking anonymity. The inter-college tourney was supposed to be organised at the Panjab University campus grounds but the last minute changes in the venue landed many in trouble. The official added, “We came to the city a day prior to the competition. We came with a mindset to have a practice session at the venue. But, no venue or target was provided to us before the competition. If they had to change the venue, the officials should have told us,” said the official. On other hand, after repeated efforts when directorate of sports was contacted, the official said, “I have visited the venue myself and trees planted there are very far. The arrows were travelling the distance without any distraction. The centre is known for providing best archers and if the officials were facing any problem, they must give a written complaint,” said Dr Gurmeet Singh, Director Sports (Additional Charge). When asked, whether the PU campus grounds are not good enough to conduct this tourney, he added. “We have targets but no adequate space due to the ongoing competitions,” said Gurmeet. On no prior visit to the venue, the official said, “I had not received any written communication from the visiting side on whether they want a prior visit to the venue,” said Singh. |
