Be the Change Radio (BC Radio) is the result of the initiative of alumuni of IIT Bombay. The team members are musicians first, and engineers later. In college, they discovered each other, discovered music and its diversity. They also realised that to listen to good bands, one needn’t obsess over the West. After making their own songs, playing gigs, winning events, they started thinking of doing something through what they were good at, that is technology. “We wanted to bring the plethora of Indian music to the masses because we felt that there was so much good music out there in the country and it deserves a platform,” says Kritin Joshi, a member. The team is largely a rebel group of musicians from IIT Bombay and their friends, spread across a few cities in the country. Passion for music binds the members, who have been in bands, some even in semi-professional ones. The aim was to bring about a paradigm shift in how things work in the Indian music scene. The plan was to evolve this technologically into a high-tech, no-nonsense 24x7 music discovery platform. There will be a BC Radio party in Bengaluru in Le Rock Cafe and a plan to continue the trend with other tier 2 and 1 cities.

BC radio is also working with the Delhi-based Boombox project and has started the weekly show “The Pirate Mixtape,” which airs on www.bcradio.in/boombox.html every Sunday 3-5 pm. In the offing are social media options on the webpage, along with the plan to make customised playlists with the music they discover. Eventually, they will graduate to conducting live events and parties where the bands get performance opportunities. As for the songs, they have divided the outreach into the following categories : Metal, Dark, Doom, Death; Rock, Classical, Upbeat, Blues; Alternative, Progressive, Post Rock, Electronic and Regional, that is, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu. (This channel has been added recently). Constant market research helps to identify prospective bands, get their approval and approval and then they proceed to add the songs. The team: Dhruv Joshi, M.
