Delay in BSNL bills irks Kalka residents

Resentment prevailed among hundreds of BSNL subscribers of Kalka, Pinjore and its adjoining villages against the BSNL department over the delay in their telephone bills. They alleged that due to lethargic attitude of the department, their telephone bills have been delayed for more than one month.

The residents alleged that they received their telephone bills after the due date. The BSNL department does not even hesitate in disconnecting their phones, which causes a great inconvenience, specially, for BSNL broadband subscribers, as it takes more than one week to resume the connections.

Subsequently, the subscribers have to approach the local BSNL office to deposit their bills every time, which is difficult due to nature of their jobs.

Broadband subscribers also alleged that they have been receiving huge amount of bills that also involve the previous bill amount, which they have already paid.

For restoring their numbers, they have to approach the local BSNL office and have to get receipt number of their bills entered in the computer, which is mere wastage of time.

Official sources of said that the Accounts Officer (AO) Telecom Revenue Authority, is the bill issuing authority, which sends the bill through postal department.

The accounts officer, Telecom Authority, Ambala, could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

Nine booked for fraud in Dera Bassi

The Dera Bassi police has booked nine persons for forgery in two different cases.

In first such case, six persons were booked for the forgery of Rs 70 lakh in selling a piece of land. The case was registered on the complaint of Parmjeet Kaur, wife of Manjeet Singh, a resident of Bhankarpur village. Parmjeet alleged that some persons had purchased their 12-acre land near Naraningarh in Haryana at cheaper rates from her husband Manjeet because Manjeet’s mental condition was not stable.

Over 12-acre land was purchased with total Rs 1.58 crore. Later, they did forgery of Rs 70 lakh from the above amount.

After inquiring the complaint, the Dera Bassi police has registered a case against Gurmeet Singh, Dalvinder Singh, Harbans Singh and Sukhjinder Singh, residents of Jaula kalan, Kuldeep Singh resident of Lalru, Amit Kumar resident of Magra and Karmjeet Singh under Sections 406, 420 and 120 B.

In another case, three persons were booked for forgery of Rs 4 lakh in purchasing a flat at Gulmohar City, Dera Bassi.

The case was registered following a complaint from Jyoti Dutt, a resident of Modern Housing complex Mani Majra.

In her complaint, Jyoti Dutt alleged that the accused forged the documents to get her flat on their names after the expiring the date of agreement. The case police has registered a case against Chander Singh and his wife Rajni, a resident of Sector 68, Mohali, and Anil Banerjee, a resident of Phase 4, Mohali, under Section 406 and 420.

Chandigarh, August 12
A student of SD College, Sector 32, was assaulted with sharp-edged weapons in Sector 45 today.

The victim, who is a member of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) sustained injures after being attacked by his own party members.

Rajat, a resident of Sector 51 and SOPU activist, was attacked by Lotas Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, Monti Shah and others.

The police said it seemed to be a fallout of old rivalry. The accused are former students of DAV College.

Rajat sustained injuries and his brother Ankush has lodged a complaint with the police.

The victim was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32.

A case under Sections 147,148,149,323,324 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Sector 34 police station.

In another incident, Sham, a resident of Ramdarbar, alleged that Surjit, alias Pintu, Rahul, alias Tota, Ram Phal, alias Kala, Dabu, Deepu and Dheeraj, all residents of Ramdarbar, allegedly assaulted him and his parents at their residence.

The police later arrested Surjit, Rahul and Ram Phal and a case under Sections 147,148,323,506 of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 31 police station.

Three inter-state gangs busted

In a major success, the Mohali police today busted as many as three inter-state gangs and claimed to have solved at least 13 cases of robberies and murders.

The arrested have been identified as Gyan (28), a resident of Ambala, Ramesh Kumar, Sanju and Gajram. Some of the accused were still at large, said the police.

The police has also recovered goods worth Rs 20 lakh which included one foreign made pistol, three live cartridges, 250 gm gold jewellery, 100 gm silver ornaments, a computer, three laptops, one motorbike and Rs 2 lakh cash from the gangsters.

“These gangs were active in Kharar, Mohali, Ambala, Dera Bassi and Lalru,” said the Mohali SSP, GS Bhullar.

The accused were involved in several thefts and robberies at several places in the area. “Only Gyan has confessed his involvement in at least 30 cases. He had also been lodged in jails at Patiala and Ambala,” said Bhullar adding that his accomplice Ajay alias Chhota Punjabi had been arrested by the Ambala Police. “We will take him here on production warrants for further investigations,” said the police.

Keeping up the traditional annual rural sports alive, a wrestling meet was organised at the Guru Darona Acharya Stadium, Dadu Majra village here today. A number of wrestlers form the north region participated in the event. In a 35 minute bout of the senior category, Ghani of Khana played neck to neck draw with Jagroop of Amritsar. Both wrestlers shared the cash prize of Rs 41,000.

St Stephen's outplay Tribune Model

The St Stephen's School Sector 45 defeated Tribune Model School Sector 29 to move further in the ongoing Inter-school Football Tournament for boys (U-17) held at Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector 37 here today.

In the first match of the day, the winning side posted a 4-0 victory over the rivals.

In the second match of the day, the soccer team of St Soldier International School Sector 28 overcame Guru Gobind Singh School Sector 35 by 4-0. The semi-finals of the tourney will b played on Monday.

CFA invites entries for sub-junior championship

The Chandigarh Football Association will organise Chandigarh Sub-Junior Girls Football Championship for Dr Kamesh Bhargava Memorial Trophy from August 16 to 20, at football stadium of Sector 17 here.

The players born on or after January 1, 1996 are eligible to take part in the championship.

The championship will be played under knock-out-cum-league basis.

The Chandigarh Football Association will charge no entry fee from the participating teams.

The interested teams should submit their entries before August 15. During the championship, the organisers will also select 25 players to undergo coaching camps. The coaching camps will be organised for the preparation of forthcoming Sub-Junior National Football Championship that shall be conducted by the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) in the month of September or October.

Annual rural sports meet concludes

The two-day annual rural sports meet concluded at Guru Darona Acharya Stadium, Dadu Majra village here today. On the last day, events, including circle style kabaddi (55kg), circle kabaddi (62kg), national kabaddi (62kg), open circle kabaddi and athletic, were organised. The top three position holders were awarded with wining trophies and cash prizes.

DAV College gymnast bag first prize

The gymnast of DAV College Sector 10 bagged first position in the Sunday Acrobatic Gymnastic Championship held at DAV College Sector 10 here today.

The team of Government Model Senior Secondary School Sector 10 finished second while Government High School Sector 11 managed to attain the third place in the event.
