Two minors found abandoned
Ambala, August 11 The elder girl disclosed her name as Nagma (5) while the younger girl who seems to be around 3 years old could not tell anything. The identity of their parents could not be confirmed so far. The passengers were of the view that the parents might have deliberately left the girls. The railway police has shifted the girls to child line society (CLS) volunteers. According to information, initially the girls would be kept at Mother Teresa House in Ambala Cantonment. Thereafter, they will be produced before the Deputy Commissioner on Sunday and further action will be taken as per his direction. The railway police post incharge, Avtar Singh Ahluwalia, said some of the passengers of Haridwar-Ganganagar Express had handed over the duo to him this morning. It could not be revealed from which station the girls boarded in the train. He said that the station master of Ambala Cantt, Haridwar and few other stations where the train has its stoppage were informed in this regard. |

Body of minor recovered
Fatehgarh Sahib, August 11 The area SHO said the police noticed a body in the distributary of the Bhakra canal near Buchre village during patrolling. He said the body was fished out and the body seemed to be of a minor boy approximately between 12 to 14 years. The SHO added the body has N.S. and Navjot in English written on his right and left arms, respectively. The body has been kept at the Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib for identification. |

Police arrests absconding rape convict
Dera Bassi, August 11 As per information, the accused Harvinder Singh, a resident of Jharmari village near Lalru, had fled from the custody of the Sangrur police after attending Rajpura court regarding some case. The police said Harvinder was serving a 10-year imprisonment at Sangrur jail in a rape case. The convict was brought to Rajpura court for another case on May 26 this year. After attending the court work, Harvinder convinced the police personnel with him to take him to his home. After reaching his home Harvinder fled from the police custody. Three policemen in this regard had also been arrested on May 27. |

Banur, August 11 Sources said that the accident occurred when Gurdhyan was walking on footpath near Khaspur village on the Banur-Ambala road. Suddenly an unidentified vehicle had hit him from behind and he died on the spot. The body of the victim was handed over to relatives after conducting postmortem examination. — OC |

19-yr-old held for raping minor
Chandigarh, August 11 According to the police, the incident came to light when the victim complained of abdominal pain and on which her family members took her to the Civil Hospital, Mohali yesterday and doctors on examining the victim found her to be pregnant. Dr Rajiv Bhalla, senior medical officer (SMO), Civil Hospital, said the doctors while examining the girl found her to be pregnant. Nand Kishore, Palsora police post in charge, said the victim went under medical examination and her statement was recorded, in which she alleged that Rahul raped her many times and had also threatened her if she revealed it to anyone. The accused has been arrested and will be produced in court tomorrow, Kishore said. |

Man arrested for stealing car
Chandigarh, August 11 According to the police, Haneel Anand, an employee at the hotel, reported that Jai Kumar, a resident of Ravindra Enclave, Baltana, had stolen a Maruti Swift car owned by Shakun Goyal from the hotel. A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC was registered in the Sector 36 police station and an inquiry has been initiated. |
