Dera Bassi bus stand

Dera Bassi, August 5
Residents of Dera Bassi have been facing harassment due to pitiable condition of the local bus stand. Residents said that commuters face difficulty in standing at the bus stand due to foul smell emanating from toilets and the poor condition of roof and the building.

They rued that they had repeatedly raised the issue of constructing a new bus stand but the authorities concerned had not taken any step. They added that some private bus owners and taxi owners are misusing the bus stand. Commuters wait on the National Highway for long route and local buses, which also becomes the cause of accidents. Due to the defective sewer system, the sewerage always flows at the bus stand, residents further added.

The residents also demanded the removal of illegal encroachments near the bus stand. Thousands of people, who visit here, are harassed due lack of proper arrangements of sitting, and drinking water.

Executive officer, Varinder Jain, said that the municipal council had planned to shift its office at other place to provide a proper place for constructing a new bus stand. He added that the new bus stand would be constructed soon.
