Quest for Peace
By Amrik Binapal. iUniverse, USA. Pages 223. $12.56

Quest for PeaceTHE book is a compilation of poems which try to understand, analyse and rationalise the enormous burden placed on the human mind by the fast pace of development in today’s life. These developments have led to a spiritual decline which is at a faster pace than any presumed forward movement in a materialistic way. In fact, man's desire for material things has increased to the extent that we are not able to make the right choices and maintain the correct rhythm in our lives. This has led to an imbalance and a loss of peace of mind.

Science has delivered many wonderful things to us, but we have lost the peace and calm of a less harried life. We are just running without knowing what exactly we need and what we don't need. The moral values that might help to balance the situation seem to have taken a backseat to the fast pace of today's world.

The book tries to suggest ways to seek peace in conflict and hope in despair. This the author Amrik Binapal — a retired engineer settled in USA — does by the use of simple flowing language in a surprisingly effective and modern way . In this poetry collection he chronicles his innermost thoughts based upon his life experiences with the hope that it might ease the pressure of everyday life for everyone.

He has thoughtfully divided the book into sections – personal, social, spiritual, political and general. Binapal does not restrict himself to his religion (Sikhism) but elaborates equally well on Christianity. In fact, he is a popular figure in churches in America where he shares his thoughts with spiritual leaders.

His description of Gandhiji and Jesus are a joy to read. His style is very simple prose delivered so meaningfully. The fact that his work comes from the heart is the uniqueness of the book. It is a must read for people from all walks of life.
