Blow to Mamata as HC strikes down Singur land Act
Kolkata, June 22
In a huge setback for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Calcutta High Court on Friday struck down the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act- 2011 as “unconstitutional.”  The legislation was introduced by the Mamata government to recover 400 acres of land leased to Tata Motors in Singur for its small car project.

Pranab set for smooth ride to Raisina Hill
Likely to quit as FM on June 26

New Delhi, June 22
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to resign from his post on June 26 as he gets ready to move to Rashtrapati Bhavan. He will file his nomination papers for the presidential election on June 28. Mukherjee would have stepped down soon after the UPA announced his candidature last week, but had to hold back his resignation as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was out of the country.

Punjab to levy property tax, up electricity duty
Chandigarh, June 22
Soon after a tax-free Budget, the Punjab Government is set to impose three new taxes to reduce the state’s massive Rs 6,838 revenue deficit. The state must bring down its deficit by 100 per cent to Rs 3,123 crore for an Rs 1,482 crore grant from the 13th Finance Commission.

Passport offices in seven cities to stay open this weekend
New Delhi, June 22
Stung by reports of delays in processing online passport applications, the government today announced that passport offices in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Amritsar will function normally tomorrow and on Sunday.

The Indian infrastructure along the China border is in a bad shape. The infrastructure on the Indian side along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh region is in a ‘bad shape’. This is in sharp contrast to the Chinese side, where metallic blacktop highways exist from the zero line and are connected to far away Beijing.
