‘I don’t have set rules to select a movie’ Jimmy Sheirgill, the actor who has created a niche for himself in Bollywood, is all set to act in a couple of sequels His growth as an actor in Bollywood has been a slow and steady. But for Jimmy Sheirgill, it is never too late to taste success, or even experiment as an actor. Flaunting his new look, which has a thick moustache settled as if he was born with it, Jimmy is making a conscious effort to pick and choose roles, and he certainly doesn’t mind playing a grey character. As he says, "For a character to look real, it should have some shades of grey in it." You are shooting for the sequel of Sahib, Biwi Aur Gangster, what is second going to be like? I have started shooting for the film, which going to be lot more deadlier and packed with a lot more emotions than the earlier one. The sequel starts from where the first part ended. The film should be released by the end of this year. Sequels are the new fancy word for Bollywood. As an actor, how much do you relate to this trend? I am shooting for sequels of two of my films Sahib, Biwi Aur Gangster and Tanu Weds Manu, why wouldn’t relate to it. I don’t look at sequels as a trend. Sometimes audiences like a particular movie and they would like to see more of it. This is why the team decides to cut the second part or as you say sequel of the movie. As long as the track of the movie is carefully picked from the end of the first part, sequels are generally interesting. You have portrayed positive characters in films like Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi. Does this mean that you are open to any kind of role or are you selective about your roles? Did I say this?(he laughs). I don’t have a set rule to select movies. At the same time, I like to follow the basics, which means a movie should have a good script and it should be made under a good production house. By a good production house, I mean a banner that can market the movie well. Let’s talk about Jimmy Sheirgill Production House, which has opened a new chapter in your life? Well, it sure has. It was not an overnight decision to come up with a production house. I want to do something for Punjabi cinema, so I decided to open a banner that would ensure that Punjabi films get a new face. So, have you been able to achieve what you wanted? So far so good, I guess. My latest release Taur Mittran Di is doing fairly well. I have a team of creative minds who ensure that each time they come up with a new and different script. Now that you are busy with Bollywood and Punjabi cinema both, how do you maintain a balance? I don’t need to maintain any balance, I do one Punjabi movie a year and one or two Bollywood flicks. As far as Punjabi movies go, I leave it to my team to select scripts and rest of the work. Nevertheless, I ensure I am always there for the publicity and promotions of the movie. What are the projects that you are working on? I have finished shooting for Special Chabbis starring Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and Manoj Bajpayee. I am shooting for the sequel of Sahib Biwi and Gangster and Tanu Weds Manu. I will be working in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s untitled project as well.
