Patiala students come out with flying colours

Patiala, May 25
Patiala students came out with flying colours during the class-X CBSE results. With more than 100 students scoring a perfect 10, schools were on a new high.

A total of 43 of Our Lady of Fatima School got 10 CGPA. Deepika Sharma, Vishal Goyal, Divjot Kamboj, Shreya Kanungo, Inshan Goyal, Pritish Singla, Sumanjot Kaur, Hitisha, Akansha Bansal, Abhinav Bansal, Siddharth Kaur, Archit Garg, Gunjanpreet Kaur, Raghav Ralhan, Sukhber Bansal, Anmiol Mehta, Aisharwa, Simran K Grewal, Parul Sidhu, Nishta, Manav Bedi, Rajan Jindal, Nikita, Jayksh Chhabre, Divya, Ishita Gupta, Akshya Kumar, Amritpreet Kaur, Kanika Meedha, Abha Sharma, Abhinav Saxena, Angadjot Bhasin, Jashandeep Kaur, Jasmin Kaur Mehta, Abhishek Vashisht, Panav Gupta, Reetika Gupta, Vaishanavi Jain, Sehajdeep Kaur, Manoshi Barua, Sinrata Singh and Trisha were among toppers.

At Budha Dal Public School, 34 students scored 10 CGPA. They were Sehajpal Singh, Shivam Singla, Prakul Arora, Ritish Bansal, Siddarth Goyal, Anupjot Singh, Ishjot Singh Jaggi, Kushagar Garg, Manjot Singh, Manish Mangal, Mankaranveer Singh, Sanchali Jindal, Sparsh Goyal, Chiranjeev Singh, Harsimranjeet Singh, Ishleen Kaur, Japneet Kaur, Akansha Goyal, Alisha Goel, Harmeet Kaur, Ishant Goyal, Simreet Kaur, Guneet Kaur, Anupreet Kaur, Harleen Kaur, Harmeet Walia, Pramjot Kaur, Rajbarinder, Sirjan Sharma, Vishwajeet Singh, Harsirjan Singh, Ishaan Mangla, Yogita and Mansimran Kaur.

At DAV School, 21 students scored 10 CGPA. They were Anmol, Manminder Kaur, Nitin Gupta, Dismeet Kaur, Priyanka Sharma, Tanvi, Gaganpreet Kaur, Sapna, Abhinav Taneja, Harsha Malhotra, Tushar Singla, Akanksha Kori, Jasleen Kaur, Nitish Kant, Parul Mehta, Rajat Batish, Amanpreet Kaur, Rashika Garg, Sheena Mangla, Manuj Singh and Sakshi Mittal.

At St Peter’s Academy, 16 students scored 10 CGPA. At Bhupindra International Public School, 10 students scored 10 CGPA. They were Harmanjit Kaur, Harshit Kumar, Rahul, Harshit Arora, Sakshi, Sukhpreet, Akash, Mahima, Gurmeet Singh and Manisha. Seven students of Akal Academy at Reeth Kheri scored 10 CGPA. They included Navneet Kaur, Gurpreet Singh, Jasmeen Kaur, Navdeep Kaur, Rashpinder Kaur and Hardeepak Kaur.

At Mukat Public School in Rajpura, eight students scored 10 CGPA. They were Anmol Dawra, Paksh Goyal, Jashanpreet Kaur, Simran Dhawan, Sushmita Alreja, Samiksha Pahwa, Harkirat Kaur and Amanpreet Kaur. Amrita and Sameer Hasan of Apollo Public School, Urban Estate, scored 10 CGPA. At Career Academy, Bhavneet Kaur and Jaspreet Singh scored 10 CGPA.

48 get job during campus placement drive

Fatehgarh Sahib, May 25
An extensive placement drive was held at the RIMT Engineering Campus, Mandi Gobindgarh, for the students of BTech (2012 batch). More than 450 students participated in the recruitment process carried out by a team lead by Jay Ram Joshi from Thoughtworks Technologies India Pvt Ltd. The students exhibited commendable performance in the written test resulting in the short listing of 48 candidates. The final selected students are placed as Application Developers in the company on a package ranging up to Rs 5.86 lakh per annum. The students who got shortlisted celebrated their placement at campus by organising a function.

Dr Hukam Chand Bansal, chairman, RIMT Group of Institutes, in his address congratulated the students and assured the functionaries of the company that the students from RIMT will definitely prove to be dedicated employees. He further added that the Institute takes pride in its excellent placement record as a large number of students have been placed in the most sought after brands in the country through an effective placement process and Job fests. The group also has the distinction of producing best results in the university examination which is on account of its competent and highly qualified faculty with rich academic, research and industry experience.

Vijayant Bansal, vice chairman, RIMT Group, thanked the company officials and wished the student's good luck for their bright future. Dr Harsh Sadawarti, director, IET, Dr MP Kaushal, principal, MAEC, were also present at the concluding session.

One held for sodomising four-year-old child

Chandigarh, May 25
The police has arrested one person for sodomising a four-year-old child. Based on the complaint of the child’s father, the police arrested Dalip of Dhanesri village in Purnia district of Bihar.

The complainant reported that the accused sodomised his son after luring him.

A case under Section 377 of the IPC was registered at the Sector-11 police station.

Molestation bid

A local resident reported that Robin of the servant quarters at Sector 18 here entered her room and tried to molest her.

A case under Sections 454, 354 and 427 of the IPC was registered at the Sector-19 police station. The accused was arrested.

Cheating case

Col SC Kohar (retd) of Sector 34 reported that Lovlesh Kumar Aggarwal of Amaravati Enclave cheated him of Rs 43 lakh in connection with some business.

A case of cheating under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and120-B of the IPC was registered at the Mani Majra police station.

3 theft cases

The police registered three cases of theft. Charanji Lal of Ram Darbar reported that someone stole two LPG cylinders from his residence after breaking locks.

The police registered a case under Section 454 and 380 of the IPC at the Sector-31 police station.

In another case, Jitender Thakur of Sector 56 reported that someone stole his Pulsar motorcycle (CH01AA-6458) from Sector 17 on May 21.

The police registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC at the Sector-17 police station.

Vicky of Dhanas reported that someone stole his Boxer motorcycle (CH03M-0669) from Sector 37 on the night of May 20 night.

The police registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC at the Sector-39 police station.

Pedestrian dies in accident

Chandigarh, May 25
A 63-year-old pedestrian died as he was hit by a speeding motorcyclist on the road separating Sectors 35 and 43 here today.

The victim, Amarjeet Singh, was crossing the road when he was hit. He received a grievous head injury and was declared brought dead at hospital.

Motorcyclist Sameer also received critical injuries and was admitted to a private hospital at Mohali. The police said he would be arrested when he was discharged. It registered a case of death due to negligent driving at the police station in Sector 36. The deceased was a retired government employee. — TNS

17-yr-old girl commits suicide

Chandigarh, May 25
A 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her house in Mauli Jagran last night.Rekha was a student of class XII at the Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 18.

She was found hanging by her family. She took the extreme step after her family had slept. She had been suffering from mental tension. Her father works as a mechanic with the CTU. — TNS

Ranjit, Aarushi lift title

Ranjit clinched the U-18 boys singles title by defeating second seed Aditya Deshwal of Delhi in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) in the CLTA-AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament being held at the CLTA courts here today.

Aarushi Kakkar, also a CLTA trainee, defeated Soumya Saxena in a three-setter in the U-14 girl’s singles final. It was a hard fought three-setter thriller in hot weather conditions.

Karandeep of Punjab won the U-14 boys singles title by defeating Sagar Bains. Karandeep was down 3-5 in the first set but used his experience and skill to outplay Sagar Bains 7-5, 6-1.

Ashima Garg, a wild card entrée of Chandigarh, kept the spectators spell bound by defeating top seed Shehnaj Singh of Delhi in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Aarushi Kakkar and Shristi Dhanda gave another sterling performance in girls U-14 doubles by defeating Aarzoo Chaudhary and Taru Ahluwalia in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Sagar Bainsa and Calvin Golmei trounced Sabrang Sandal and Raunaq Singh in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 in doubles U-14 boys.

AG Haryana to clash with AG Punjab for title

Chandigarh, May 25
AG Haryana and AG Punjab would be facing each other for the title clash in North Zone IA & AD Cricket Tournament to be held at the Sector 16 cricket stadium.

In the first semifinal between AG Haryana and Audit Delhi, Delhi won the toss and decided to bowl first. Haryana put up 265 for 5 in 35 overs. Gourav Ghambhir (130) in partnership with Michal Vishal (100) scored 233 runs. Anil Bhatt (2 for 32) was the main wicket taker. Chasing the target, Delhi were all out for 186 in 31 overs. Pankaj Joshi (79), Nitin Saini (51) were the main run getters. VRV Singh (4 for 34) and Gambhir (3 for 44) were the main wicket takers for AG Haryana which won the match by 79 runs to enter the final.

The second seminal was played between AG Punjab and AG Himachal Pradesh (HP). Himachal won the toss and batted first but were bundled out for 111 in 33.5 overs. Dayanand (19) and

Ramesh (15) were the main scorers. For Punjab, Sumith Sharma (4 for 17) and Amit Parasher (2 for 10) were the main wicket takers. In reply, Punjab scored 117 for 1 in 15.2 overs. P'kula Golf Club to hold camps

Chandigarh, May 25
The Panchkula Golf Club will organise various camps in the month of June.

According to the organisers, the first camp will be held from June 9 to 11, whereas the second camp will start from June 21 to 29. The basics of the sport, including the grip, alignment, stance, putting, rules, will be taught during the camp. Interested participants can contact coach Ajay Gujral (9814356013).
