FRUIT FACTS
Bilimbi (Averrhoa bilimbi), also known as the tree sorrel, is a popular fruit of South India. In Kerala, it is used for making pickles. While in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa, the fruit is commonly eaten raw, with salt and spice. In some villages in Thiruvananthapuram, bilimbi was used as home remedy to control obesity. It was brought to India by the British in 1760. The fruit was first planted at the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens in Bangalore. Dr Chiranjit Parmar
