Everybody says that today’s voters have become wiser. They only seem to vote for crorepati candidates. Voters know if they choose poor candidates, the candidates would first fill their own pockets before they start thinking about the public. According to information, out of 117 MLAs, 101 are either crorepatis or super crorepatis. If some poor and honest candidate gets chosen, then there’s something definitely wrong with the system. A state’s economic condition should, in fact, be judged by the decrease or increase of assets of its MLAs. There should be annual assessment about the progress of MLAs of the winning party, at least. Those who fail to amass less than Rs 5 crore a year, should be asked to resign and make way for more greedy leaders. I suggest that the Election Commission should divide the candidates in three categories —crorepatis, super crorepatis and super-duper crorepatis. There could be a few reserved constituencies for poor lakhpati candidates. A candidate asked his CA to declare his assets worth Rs 10 crore. The CA said, "But you have hardly Rs 10 lakh." The candidate said, "I am being honest and declaring my assets in advance. I will earn at least Rs 10 crore if I win."
