The Firm
continues the story of attorney Mitchell McDeere and his family, 10 years after the events of John Grisham's popular novel of the same name

IT was a novel that made author John Grisham a global household name in 1991. Two years later, The Firm was made into a film by Sydney Pollack starring Tom Cruise and Holly Hunter. Now The Firm is a television series on AXN India every Saturday on 9 p.m. It continues the story of attorney Mitchell McDeere and his family, 10 years after the events of the popular film and novel. As a young associate, Mitch brought down Bendini, Lambert & Locke, a prestigious Memphis law firm operating as a front for the Chicago Mob — an event that changed his life forever. After a difficult 10 years, which included a stay in the Federal Witness Protection Programme, Mitch and his family emerge from isolation determined to reclaim their lives and their future – only to find that past is still lurking and new threats are everywhere. The explosive new series, based on Grisham’s international best-selling novel that stars Josh Lucas as Mitch McDeere, Callum Keith Rennie as Ray McDeere, is as gripping as the book and the film.

Remaking a blockbuster

TWO decades ago, it created a sensation on the small screen and became one of the first few mega-serials to break all viewership records. In fact, Chanakya made its lead star Dr Chandra Prakash Dwivedi a household name. Now Dr Dwivedi has turned director for his new serial Upnishad Ganga to be aired at 10 a.m. every Sunday starting March 11. The lead role of Chanakya is being played by the well-known stage artist K.K. Raina, who has also starred in films like Tanu Weds Manu, Delli 6 and Rang De Basanti. Though it may seem out of sync with the MTV generation, the serial produced by Chinamaya Mission is still expected to create new viewership records considering the wide reach of Doordarshan. — NF
