No brand addiction
No idea about what’s hot and what’s not for the coming season? Fret not, check out the options available at the street markets and unbranded stores
Vasudha Gupta

Have you checked out the spring/summer collection of Anna Sui? Or maybe the latest range of shoes launched by Christian Louboutin? If you are not one of those who will run after brand names like wild bulls, read on. As expenses rise and wallets shrink, we try to find out how much of unbranded clothes find their way from the streets, unknown stores and export houses into your wardrobe.

No one talks on the issue apart from a young fashion designer, Nitasha Bahteja, all of 22, who is constantly running around putting clothes together. "When you refer to branded things, everything is similar. There is very little scope for customisation," she says. Yes, that is why all brands develop one concept and make a zillion pieces out of it. "Unbranded clothes end up offering more and better scope for personalisation, adding a slit here and a tuck there," she laughs.

There are no second thoughts that several young girls throng the rehri market on a regular basis. "Not everything there is quality. Yes, street fashion coming from Hong-Kong and China is far better," she suggests.

Another factor that tends to reduce the demand for unbranded fashionable items is the exorbitant price tags. "Having limited resources, young professionals like me can't afford big brands," shares Pallavi Shukla. All of 23 and currently preparing for competitions, she does not shy away from talking about the differences between branded and non-branded articles. "Combinations and designing in non-branded articles is amazing," she laughs. Flocking to Delhi for Janpath shopping, this young lady feels one looks far better in them than the over-priced and over-rated branded articles.

For Delhi-based Honey Ahluwalia, it's about paying one-fourth the price of what you get in a branded store and still looking amazing. "Like a dream. Seriously, I give it thumbs up," she says. For this young fashionista who has not only thoroughly enjoyed street-shopping in India, but exotic foreign locales as well, it's more about what suits the trend in the current season rather than just a name, which needs equal repair and maintenance. "I remember picking up a Chloe bag and still need to look after it. With street-shopping, after-care is not much of an issue," she smiles.

Without an iota of doubt, branded items provide unmatched quality and for some, the right sizes! Calling her a bit "healthy" than her malnourished counterparts, Pallavi Sohal, a B.Com student holds her ground firmly in quality. "For me, picking clothes is not easy. I like to research before I add articles to my wardrobe," she says. Shrugging aside the thought of going to the Shastri Market, her attitude comes forth at the thought of congestion. "Oh, it's just not me," she chips in. "Brands give you personal attention and they have all sizes to choose from," she giggles.

So, are you planning to visit the rehri market?

A changed life
Winner of UTV Bindass' show Big Switch 3, Faizan Mir gets candid about what he learnt after the whole experience
Sabia Talwar

Big Switch 3 — Life Without Daddy Ka Paisa, a reality show on UTV Bindass was indeed a great learning experience for the rich spoilt brats.

Faizan Mir from Delhi won the show because of his sincere efforts to change as a person. So how did he really think of becoming a part of the show? "My friend told me regarding the show and initially I was not interested in it. Later, I did not give the auditions, but filled up the form. The crew approached my dad with the details and I landed up in the show."

Faizan, aged 20, was a typically careless guy who slept late after partying at night and woke up late in the mornings. "I was into event management and never respected the value of time and money." But when the show started, it really taught him a lot. "Initially, I thought that the show will revolve around just having fun, but when the tasks started rolling I was shaken. We had to serve as waiters in restaurants; cleaning up the mess and many such tasks."

Faizan's performance in the first task was not really up to mark, but then he geared up for the rest as he did not want to lag behind other contestants.

How was the experience of sharing the platform with people from similar backgrounds? "Somewhere down the line, we all were spoilt in some way or the other. Initially, I thought of throwing my weight around and also got provoked by situations, but later learnt how to keep my calm."

Now that he is back in Delhi, what all has in store? "I'm changing as a person because now I know that life is hard; one should respect people and be humble to everyone." Faizan is definitely not getting back to event management as he feels it is not meant for him. "I'm not really working right now but my doors are open for anything decent, which will make me reach somewhere big in life."

What of the blank cheque he got from his dad after winning the show? "I did not take the cheque because now I want to become responsible enough to give something back to my parents; not necessarily in terms of money, but love and affection."

Where in today's time the youth is crazily running behind reality shows, Faizan, who loves photography and editing, says that fame was the last thing he wanted from this show. He signs off by saying that respecting people and value for money are a part of him now.

Kulraj to do a Telugu movie?

Actress Kulraj Randhawa ventured into the film industry with Punjabi movies and then progressed to Bollywood. Now she is again changing gears and intends to do films Down South.

The TV actress made her full fledged debut on big screen in 2006 with Punjabi film Mannat opposite Jimmy Shergill, and later did a Hindi film Chintuji (2009) alongside veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. The 28-year-old who played Bobby Deol's love interest in the successful, Yamla Pagla Deewana, now wants to try her luck in Tollywood. "I had been receiving offers from South film industry since quite some time. But earlier nothing interested me much. There are a couple of projects in pipeline. I have offers from Hindi, Punjabi and South film industry," Kulraj told in an interview.

"The offers are mostly for Telugu films and I should do a film this year," she said. "It will be difficult and would take time for me to pick up the language but it would happen gradually. But then I would take up classes during the course of the film. At least for sometime I would see if someone can dub for me till the time I get the language right," she said. She would be seen next opposite Tusshar Kapoor in Char Din Ki Chandni that releases on March 9. — PTI

Stand-up performance
Guneet Singh, who participated in Chhote Miyan Season 3, has enjoyed his stint on the small screen
Ashima Batish

small steps: Guneet Singh

A lot has changed in Guneet Singh's life post the first episode of Chhote Miyan Season 3. His classmates give him a celebrity status now, teachers cite his example to other students and friends are just in awe of him. Guneet knew that small screen would make a difference, but he had no idea that such would be his popularity rating in the school!

He is enjoying every bit of it, "It feels great when schoolmates compliment my comic timings, but then I soon want to be in the groove of any school-going boy." A student of class VIII at St. Joseph's School, he has attended acting workshops at Jaspal Bhatti's Mad Arts Acting School. The same gave him a lot of confidence to perform on a show on the national television. "I have heard a lot of comedians saying that to make people laugh is the toughest job; I realised it in no time on the show. One needs to have perfect comic timing, great sense of humour and perfect expressions to make people laugh. Mere script is nothing more than run-of-the-mill dialogues in daily soaps." He also feels that stand-up comedy, unlike acting in soaps, gives an actor a lot of liberty. "The ultimate aim is to make people laugh, for that you can bring in changes to the jokes script. You can't do that in case of regular dialogues."

Guneet got eliminated in the third episode, which he doesn't regret at all. Taking the ouster in his stride, he says, "It's after being a part of the show that I realised my shortcomings. I have become more confident of giving solo performances on stage. And I am working on my talent further." Another benefit of being on TV, which matters a lot to children, is meeting up with celebrities. He enjoyed meeting Sachin Pilgaonkar and Mahima Chaudhary, who are the judges of the show. And there are more actors on the list, "I met Vishal Malhotra of Kuch To Log Kahenge fame and Chavvi Mittal of Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan fame. My mother follows their serials and I took their autographs."

For Guneet, next on the cards is to become a regular at the acting school to hone his talent further. "Studies will always be a priority, but I want to become an actor in future. Popularity is addictive." Haven't we heard it from all aspiring actors?

SUIT the purpose
As the good-old salwar undergoes many modifications, the traditional attire salwar-kameez gets an interesting look
Jigyasa Kapoor Chimra

From bitter to balmy, the weather is showing signs of improvement. And this is an indication that it’s time to spring clean the wardrobe and add a few new things to the existing ones. Starting with one of the most pronounced and now a global fashion statement since Hollywood star Uma Thurman wore it (an embellished, pink salwar kameez); salwar suit is sure to be a hot spring/summer trend for 2012.

The traditional suit comes in a new avatar with a contemporary touch to the salwar. “If in the past, suits only meant a kurti and salwar now it’s a fashion statement where cuts and lines define its fashion quotient. And for the designers, they are investing on this traditional wear as summer means more of suits and salwars,” says Divya Kapoor from Samsara at Hotel Taj.

However comfortable we are in our jeans, suits remain the most worn outfit of our region and is spelling trend for this season. Says Ritu Kochar, corporate director, INIFD, “Salwar suits always remain a hot trend for the summer, but this season it is about dare-to-bare as designers have experimented a lot with transparent salwars. We would see a lot of chiffon and georgette salwars without lining and it would be teamed with short kurtis. Pastel shades would be a hit and so would floral patterns. Other than this, lace would be a prominent embellishment on salwars, so would be ribbons, feathers and appliqué work.”

Patiala salwars is not so hot this summer, so are the plazzo pants that were a rage last year. Ritu adds, “To wear a Patiala salwar one must bear the height in mind. It does not suit the short-heighted women, so they must find a mid-way with semi-Patiala salwars or modify the design to suit their purpose.”

Talk about the salwar suit and you are sure to find a number of options, designs and patterns; listing some for this year, designer Rashmi Bindra says, “Salwars are a hit in the summer and knowing that they are the best sellers, designers have re-invented this traditional attire into a stylish gear. From the usual Patiala salwars, now salwars have modified to suit the stylish Indian women and now we have dhoti, pajami, Pathani, Afgani, Jodhpuri and even harem pant style salwars teamed with various styles of kurtis.” Watch out, there is some tough competition for Western outfits!

Nothing fishy about it!

Eating fish can help keep your brain young, say scientists after finding that diets lacking omega-3 fatty acids hastens brain shrinkage and mental decline. Researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles, found that people who eat the least amount of omega-3 fatty acids, key nutrients found in fish oil, had less brain mass — equivalent to about two years of chronological ageing. It's known that low levels of omega-3 fatty acids are associated with poor scores for visual memory, problem solving, multi-tasking and abstract thinking. It is thought that omega-3 fatty acids in fish oils may reduce inflammation of the brain and play a part in brain development and nerve cell regeneration. In the new study, published in the journal Neurology, the researchers carried out brain scans of over 1,500 people with an average age of 67.

They found a greater rate of brain shrinkage in those who lacked docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid that is thought to help nerve cells communicate with each other. "People with lower blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids had lower brain volumes that were equivalent to about two years of structural brain ageing," lead researcher Dr Zaldy Tan said. The study involved magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain scans and tests for mental function and omega-3 fatty acids in red blood cells. Participants whose DHA levels were among the bottom 25 per cent had smaller brains than those with higher DHA levels. — PTI

The ‘in’ side
Elements of beauty
Sukhmani

The Japanese are known to create the most beautiful gardens in the world. A Japanese garden consists of various elements put together in a way that creates a sense of calm and tranquillity. These can be designed for any climate and can be incorporated in any size.

Start with the layout plan. These gardens are tricky to create because a lot of symbolism is involved. Always consult a professional if you want to do it right.

Rocks are an important element of Japanese gardens. They symbolise hills or mountains. These can be grouped together in threes or fives or used individually as a centre-piece.

A water body like a pond, bird bath or a waterfall is a must since water, in Japanese gardens, represents oceans and seas. Water can also be represented by raked gravel or white sand. If you choose to have a pond, make sure it isn’t a perfect shape and add fish in it.

Other elements like earth and fire are added through colours like browns, green, reds yellow and orange.

The plants that you use should be evenly distributed in your garden. Remember they don’t have to be too clustered since the Japanese believe in a lot of space. Use a lot of bamboo, small trees, shrubs and bonsais to bring out the beauty of the garden.

Most Japanese gardens are designed around the moss theme. Use moss liberally as a ground cover to add texture to your garden.

Bridges and pathways are an integral part of these gardens. If space is a problem, create a miniature bridge and paint it a bright red. Build a beautiful pathway all across the garden and use stone lanterns along the way. If you’re using stepping stones, make sure they are at least 1” – 3” above ground level.

It is important to have fences, borders and gates in Japanese gardens as these gardens are meant to be sanctuaries for all who enter.

Finally, add a few stone benches here and there to sit and enjoy your creation.

Celeb point
Memories of a lifetime
Divya Dutta

Dilli ki sardi (cold) and shooting with a very talented actor — Jimmy Sheirgill; my second movie with him in a row. Quiet, and restrained, unlike me but super-fun. Like me! So is being with Anupam Kher; one of my favourite actors. He is someone who is super-talented and has a superb sense of humour! He has seen life from the grassroots level, achieved great heights and laughed about his struggles as well as failures!

I am looking forward to reading his new book, which I believe is very inspiring. I met him on the sets after really long, and there's something so positive about him. “I believe you got a fabulous role in this film,” he said. And then we got chatting as if there was no tomorrow. Jokes, anecdotes and experiences of a man who has smiled through it all! Who messaged all of us to come in colourful clothes for his father’s chautha to celebrate a life beautifully lived! How many people have the courage to bid farewell to their loved ones with a smile of just cherishing their life! Sheer strength and zest for life is what Mr Kher is full of. Great to be back and working with him!

Came back for a day to Mumbai and saw a play close to my heart yet again, Tumhari Amrita, starring Shabana Azmi and Farooq Sheikh. I reached a bit early and Farooq saab stopped as he saw me, “Arey you are also here, now I will have to be extra-cautious; performing in front of a very talented actress.” He said in it fun, but it touched me so much!

When people you have looked up to for their sheer talent and you happen to walk the path with them, it’s a journey worth cherishing. And I cherish each moment!

GET PHYSICAL
Holistic approach
Renu Sabberwal

Sarvangasana means a pose for all the parts of the body. It is one of the many inverted poses of yoga and is extremely beneficial. These inverted asanas work by reversing the effects of gravity on certain parts of the body, and in sarvangasana, most parts of the body are targeted.

Sarva means the whole, anga means body, or limb or part. The name is derived from the fact that the entire body benefits from this pose. It helps those suffering from nasal problems, the common cold, hypertension, irritability, sleeplessness, constipation, urinary track disorders, menstrual troubles, piles and hernia, to name just a few. In this posture, the body weight rests on the shoulders, and the glands situated in the throat are pressed.

How to do

l Lie down flat on the floor, on your back, arms by the side of the body. Exhale and lift your legs up gradually 30, 60, 90 and then around 130 degrees so they are extended behind your head.

l Now, straighten your legs up to 90 degrees, lifting your buttocks as well. Support the back of your trunk with your palms, keeping elbows on the floor. Gradually, move your hands towards your shoulder blades, as you lift your body higher.

l Your elbows may tend to move outwards. Bring them in, so that they are straight in line with your shoulders.

l You will notice that your hips tend to jut out backwards, while your feet tend to come forward, over the head. This is not the right way to do it. Work at it so your body is in a straight line. Your hips, feet and shoulders should be aligned, so push your feet back and bring your hips and tailbone forward.

l Lift your body as high up as possible. Sarvangasana is a shoulder stand, so your body should be resting on your shoulders and not on your back.

l Remember to exhale while lifting your body up, but once your body is up, you can breathe normally. There is no need to hold your breath.

Maintain the posture for few breaths. And release the posture slowly in controlled manner in reverse order.

Benefits

l This asana helps prevent and reduce varicose veins by reducing the pressure on the legs and directing blood clogged in the veins upwards to the heart.

l Usually the heart has to work harder to ensure blood supply to the brain. During sarvangasana, the heart gets relief as the blood is directly related to the brain.

l The thyroid gland is located in the neck. Over a period of time due to lack of proper circulation the gland starts to deteriorate. Sarvangasana pushes healthy, oxygen-rich blood directly into the neck, strengthening the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

l Asana greatly helps to prevent hernia, indigestion, constipation etc.

Caution

Women should not do any inverted poses during menstruation as it reverses blood flow. People suffering from blood pressure, glaucoma, hernias, cardiovascular disease, cervical spondylitis, thrombosis, arteriosclerosis, and kidney problems should not practice headstand. Those suffering from neck injuries should perform this exercise after consulting a yoga teacher, under supervision.

Health tip

Drinking 500ml of beetroot juice could dramatically reduce blood pressure after just one hour. So drink the pink stuff.

Inactive, Virtually

Virtual boxing, tennis and dancing along with video game systems may not be helping children meet daily exercise requirements, according to a U S study.

Researchers from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas found that children who were given so-called active video games to play on a Nintendo Wii didn't end up logging any more moderate or vigorous physical activity than those given games they could play sitting on the couch.

Some public health researchers have hoped that active video games might be an alternative to outdoor play and sports for at least some of the physical activity children need, especially for those who live in unsafe neighbourhoods where playing outside isn't always an option. "We expected that playing the video games would in fact lead to a substantial increase in physical activity in the children," said Tom Baranowski and colleagues at Baylor.

STAR TRACK
Replacement queens
Several actresses have been replaced in several films this year and earlier. We take a look at the prominent ones

Old is gold

Role on: Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut replaces Kareena Kapoor in the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai:

Kareena was tipped to do the role but she was unhappy with the lack of clarity on it and also the dates weren’t decided. She had plum projects on hand already so she left it. Kangana is the only original cast member returning to the film which stars Akshay Kumar and maybe Shahid Kapur.

Gangster act

Kangana Ranaut replaced Vidya Balan in Shootout at Wadala

Kangana Ranaut has a knack for gangster films. Vidya Balan walked out of the film because she thought the role wasn’t meaty and it was a male-dominated film. So Kangana stepped in her shoes and will be paired with John Abraham for the first time.

Luck by chance

Full swing: Kareena Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor replaced Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Heroine

The movie was written for her but she turned it down. Aishwarya began shooting for it but she had to leave because of her pregnancy. The film was salvaged by Kareena Kapoor and shooting is on in full swing.

Commercial choice

Kangana Ranaut replaced Mahie Gill in Tanu Weds Manu

Mahie Gill was considered for the role of a feisty North Indian girl but the producers thought Kangana was a better choice to make the film more commercially viable! We think Mahie Gill would have done the role better!

The opportunist

Kalki replaced Vidya and Rani in Daayan

Rani turned the film down and Vidya didn’t show much interest either. Emraan Hashmi was the lead. Vishal Bhardwaj was going to shelve the film because he didn’t find his heroines. That was then. Kalki Koechlin stepped in and the makers found her suitable for the role. So the film will begin rolling soon!

Not on a serious note

Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway says she has been through several embarrassing situations in life but her mother taught her to not take life too seriously.

The 29-year-old, who recently got engaged to actor Adam Shulman, said her mother taught her to have a sense of humour about you, reported a website.

"My mother, Kate McCauley, taught me to be always understanding of other people and to have a sense of humour. I have been in so many embarrassing situations over the years.”

"But if you don't look back and have a laugh at things like that, you really are taking yourself and life too seriously. Mom will also never discuss or criticise my performances, which is exactly the way it should be. There are plenty of others who can do that," Hathaway said. — PTI

Trickle down effect

After success at the box office in its South Indian versions, the Hindi version titled Ekk Deewana Tha tanked and how at the box office! This may cost Gautham Menon his film with Shah Rukh Khan.

Shah Rukh and Gautham were in talks for a film together. Ek Deewana Tha has affected the careers of Prateik, Amy Jackson, and Gautham Menon very badly. A source says, “SRK was supposed to do Gautham’s remake of his Tamil film Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu but now he is having second thoughts. SRK might choose AR Muragadoss’ Ramanna over Menon’s film because Ghajini was a blockbuster at the box office and SRK wants to play safe.”

The source continues, “Gautham is now keeping his options open about his remake. His previous film, Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein did well and he is thinking of roping in. Recently Saif said that he is done and over with chocolate boy roles. It seems the role of a daredevil cop needs a larger-than-life hero to pull it off so the Khans are the best choices. The best and most obvious choice for this is Salman. He is not concerned about different movies as he just wants to deliver hits.

All for good

Fitness freak: Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan had to give up alcohol and good food for two months to get in shape for Agent Vinod. He talks about it all.

Right regime

It is easy to gain weight and I find it easy to lose weight too because I have a great metabolism. I did cardio for an hour through most of the week and then weight training. I am continuing this regime for my glamourous role in Race 2. I have to look suave and fit.

No more junk

I gave up junk food and realised that I don’t even like it now. I have cut out spaghetti and rice and eat only a little at times. I feel so much better and more energetic.

Drinking, no please!

While I have not given up my glass of whiskey for good, I gave it up while training. I am used to sitting and drinking so I am enjoying not drinking.

No massage

I like the kadak Indian massages that are part of our tradition. I don’t like the soft Western massages.

Personal trainer

I take my trainer along because I get bored and don’t feel like gymming. He takes care of my workout and keeps it interesting.

Vietnam tour

I went to Vietnam to train for martial arts and kickboxing for Agent Vinod. It is a charming city and I enjoyed learning new tricks. Their fitness methods are fascinating. I even tried the local food.

Bygones are bygones

Helping hand: Deepika Padukone

We have heard that Deepika Padukone is helping her ex-boyfriend Nihar Pandya with his career. She probably took him to a script reading session of her film Kochadaiyaan in Hyderabad. Bonding and helping at the same time!

Romantic comeback

Shah Rukh Khan has not played his hardcore romantic self in a while. It was this image that was one of the factors leading to the success of DDLJ, KKHH, etc. He will be seen as a typical romantic hero in Yash Chopra’s film that he is shooting for in London with Katrina Kaif.

A tale of two ages

Success story: Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan is a part of Sudhir Mishra’s ambitious Mehrunnisa. She will play the character at two different stages of life. The older character is modelled on veteran actress Waheeda Rahman.

A source tells us, “The decision for the casting of the film has finally been made. Vidya Balan will play the character at the age of 20 and 62. Katrina Kaif is officially not doing the movie. Vidya has finally signed on the dotted line. Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor will play the male protagonists. The film is being produced by DAR Motion Pictures.”

The source continues, “Vidya had not signed a film for a long time after The Dirty Picture and Kahaani. So now she is busy with Ghanchakkar with UTV. She will wrap up filming and promoting Ghanchakkar by the end of this year and that is when she begins shooting for Mehrunnisa. Amitabh Bachchan has compared Vidya Balan to the elegant and graceful Waheeda Rahman and now she gets to play her. Clever make-up and prosthetics will be used for the progression of Vidya’s character and to make her look suitable opposite Bachchan and Kapoor who are much older than her. This is yet another character driven film for Vidya.”

The film is jointly produced by Sudhir Mishra and Nikhil Advani and both are unwilling to talk about it at this point.

High on being single

Shahid Kapoor celebrated his 31st birthday for four days in Goa. He was surrounded by hot women. High time he found a new gorgeous girlfriend. Could Nargis Fakhri be the object of his fancy? She was there at his party as well.

Jennifer ready to tie the knot

bride to be: Jennifer Aniston

Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston is reportedly planning to marry by the end of the year to boyfriend Justin Theroux.

The 43-year-old, who has been dating Theroux since they met on the set of Wanderlust two years ago, has also said to her friends that the actor is "the one", reported a publication.

Meanwhile, the star explained the couple's new dog Sophie, is a "test run" for having children.

"I'll be married by the end of the year. We're constantly laughing. Now we've got our new baby things are getting serious. We have new responsibilities.”

"She's like a test run for kids, I guess, although hopefully kids are easier to house-train. Justin and I argue over who takes the dog out and who disciplines her, but that's about it. Things are fabulous. I'm happy. If he's not got down on one knee, or we're mot married, by the end of the year, it's over," a newspaper quotes Aniston as telling a friend. —PTI

Useless comparisons

Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan feels it is futile for Indian media to compare Indian film award functions to a ceremony like Oscars because here most such functions are organised by the media houses themselves.

"Interesting to see-read a lot of the media comparing the Oscars to our Indian awards. Most seem to think that we need to improve, raise our standards... Wait a minute... Aren't most of our awards run and held by media houses," Abhishek wrote on Twitter.

"Take the initiative, we shall follow," he added, taking a dig at mediapersons, who hailed Sunday night's 84th Academy Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles. Some lauded the ceremony for its transparent system of selection.

That’s puppy love!

love bite ? Kratika Sengar

Actor Kratika Sengar who plays the lead, Aarti, in Zee TV’s new show Punarvivaah came to the sets with a scratch dangerously close to her lips. While everyone ribbed her about the scratch and thought she was dating someone. Kratika volunteered “It is just a tiny little scratch my pet dog Donut gave me!”, the members on the set gave her disbelieving looks and asked her not to come up with such lame explanations. Kratika realised no one believed her so she got her four - month-old cute Beagle puppy. “This is to put everyone’s wagging tongues to rest.

I have never been a pet lover or really craved the idea of having dogs.” Kratika ‘s career going great guns, after she got the plum role of Aarti in Zee TV’s mature love story Punarvivaah opposite Gurmeet Chaudhary. Here’s wishing Kratika the very best of luck in her love life too!

Madan Gupta Spatu

If your birthday is February 29...

As 2012 is a leap year, many of you will be celebrating their birthdays or anniversaries after a gap of three years. The date is very special to you so you should order a four-layered cake and invite four times the guests for celebrations.

Working for a charitable organisation gives you a sense of control. So often, we feel defeated by work, money, and relationships. By assisting people in need, you’ll begin to see you have many more options than you initially realised. A smooth talking salesperson may try to get you to buy an expensive item you don’t really need. Keep your funds in the bank, where they will serve as a cushion against financial hardships. You’ll get positive results and will make new acquaintances, which will be very useful for your profession. Don’t be afraid of any difficulties and carry on as normal. You’ll be very constructive and will try to strengthen your relationships by taking on responsibilities and putting your beloved at the center of your attention. If you don’t want to miss out on any opportunities, you’ll have to prepare, plan your duties and try to be super organised. Something will make your relationship unstable; this could be your presumptuous behavior which will irritate your partner. If you wish to prosper and be lucky, you will have to maintain this state.

Mood: Calm and focused. Compatible signs: Capricorn, Pisces, Cancer. Lucky colours: Teal, Rose Pink. Lucky days: Thursday. Lucky numbers: 1, 2, 40, 55, 68. Lucky gem: Opal. Lucky flower: Rhododendro. Suggestion on birthday: Donate green vegetables in a Goshala.
