Auto power

An auto-rickshaw was being tested for its strength in a manufacturing factory. It was jam-packed with 20 children, while another 10 kids were clinging on to it from the outside. After driving it for one km, the factory inspector loudly declared it ‘fit’. When we see cycle or auto-rickshaws overloaded with students, instead of pitying the kids, we look at the driver with awe and wonder as to how he manages to pack so many kids in his vehicle.

Mr Justice Rajive Bhalla of Punjab and Haryana High Court had recently directed the UT, Punjab and the Haryana Governments to lay down the limit on the number of children a cycle or an auto-rickshaw could carry. This was a much-needed order from the court. So many times we see 10 or 12 children sitting on a cycle or an auto-rickshaw rickshaw with a full load of schoolbags and 10 more children running along pushing it.

A magician performed a trick on the stage, bringing out 10 items from his hat, including a pigeon, rat, duck and a rabbit. He got a loud applause. For the next item, an auto-rickshaw driver brought out 30 children from an auto. He got a standing ovation plus a contract for carrying schoolchildren from home to school and back, from the principal of a school, who was in the audience watching the show.
