Man & baggage
Gone are the days when men travelled light, today wherever the metrosexual man goes, he carries his world along
Jigyasa Kapoor Chimra

Although the species known as the metrosexual male was discovered way back, now we have the male who after spending considerable amount of time and money on personal grooming loves to show off what he’s spent on! Well, we are not stating the obvious, but are talking about men carrying their wardrobes (literally) along when travelling, either for a meeting or a vacation. We bet this is a new trend — men are travelling heavy and women light!

“In some ways it is right; men no longer consider that dressing up or matching shoes with clothes reduces their masculinity. Awareness of appearance is becoming paramount in the psychology of the modern male and dressing up-to-date a habit, be it in day-to-day life or travel,” says Puneet Arora, an employee of a telecom company.

It seems men are no longer ‘light travellers’, but like to carry their world along; and this excludes their gizmos and gadgets! “Fashion is no longer a woman’s domain, males have entered the league and they are competing well in every sphere,” says Akhil Duggar, creative head, Madame. He adds, “Though earlier there were some set rules for men - boys don’t wear pink, they are tough, they travel light – all that has changed now; the modern man is more fashionable and likes to show-off his good looks. And when it comes to travel, men obviously want to look as good as their counterparts do, so they too like to carry stuff like shoes, belts, shirts and even synchronised perfumes with them, unlike earlier times when it meant a pair of pants and maybe two shirts to go with it!”

Testifying the change that is being witnessed, Shagun Walia, an employee of a telecom company, says, “Who says men travel light? I have been to a couple of outdoor meetings and seen that women are travelling lighter than men. Men have a lot of luggage with them and this excludes their laptops as well as other gadgets.”

Change is always welcome and women would be more than happy to share another ‘tag’ with men. Won’t they?   “Corporate world has evolved a new fashion mantra. And since these guys need to look good and presentable at the same time, they have less time to think and dress - so they carry pre-co-ordinated wardrobes with them,” says designer Sabah Khan. She adds, “Other than this, people are more fashion and brand conscious these days and this includes the men. Their looks and how they carry themselves has also become important, that is why there is a sea-change in trends these days. Men are more focused on their wardrobes and they like to carry their fashionable image even while travelling and this means well-co-ordinated shoes, belts and minute details like handkerchiefs as well as socks!” If that be the case, ladies you sure have competition!

A tune of his own
Popular singer from the region Satinder Sartaaj, who released his latest album, gets candid on his singing, poetry & much more
Mona

SING ALONG: Satinder Sartaaj This album comes from the heart of Chandigarh, more specifically the cradle of young and macho in the city — Panjab University. But is a league apart from all the gadis and hathiar (cars and weapons) that are a significant part of all Punjabi songs.

There is poetry, there is feeling…there’s a touch of youthful vigour. Sartaaj Live Lafzan De Haan Da, the album jointly presented by Emerging India Housing Corporation and Speed Records, has 22 new tracks by popular singer from the region Satinder Sartaaj.

In Chandigarh on Monday to launch the album, Sartaaj, dressed in salwar-kameez, woos those present with his poetry and of course singing. The questions get replies in couplets; he answers queries in all earnestness about his looks, shayari as well as singing.

If Sufi has been his signature style, Sartaaj is moving towards folk now. And not only the ones he heard from his grandmother or elderly women in the village, but also the ones he has read in books are part of the album.

The album is a collection of live presentation from two of his shows, one at Panjab University, Chandigarh, and the other at IET, Bhaddal. “Stage is a great teacher that gives its own lessons. The whole atmosphere is spirited and more importantly, there is just one take,” says Sartaaj.

Not only mood, even the flavour of songs captures the vibrant feel of the Panjab University. Starting with PU di mitti, Sartaaj pays homage to his alma mater that made him an artiste from a student. Sartaaj, who has a huge fan base amid the youth, unassumingly shares that for the New Year celebrations at Sector-17 piazza, there was a crowd of thousands. “The moment the crowd finishes the lines half sung by you are the happiest for any artiste.”

He takes the queries even with the hint of plagiarism with élan, “I have been more careful now. Earlier, I would sing couplets written by others, but not any more. By God’s grace, I have written enough by now to sustain my singing throughout life.”

His dressing…is it a made-up look just for the effect? “Often I am entrusted with popularising the traditional look, but I have been like this forever. Entrenched in particular mannerisms, I like to carry the look and thought in my life as well as works.”

Right act

Seeing the popular trend of Punjabi singers making it to movies, do we see Satinder Sartaj in the same league? “Not at the moment. Acting is way different than writing and singing,” he quips. A huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan, Sartaaj refuses to be part of screen till he gains the skills of his favourite star.

Art of design
Marc Johnson, an artist and architect from France, talks about evolving contemporary art and forces that dictate architecture
Ashima Batish

Keen Eye: Marc Johnson Photo: S Chandan Here’s redefining contemporary art — it no more only encompasses the metaphysical; in fact metamorphosed contemporary art is a mix of paintings, sculptures, architecture, drawings, dance and music. “Abstract forms on the canvas are a passé. In the present times, it means using many genres of art to explain a particular theme or subject,” says Marc Johnson, an architect and artist from France, who was in Chandigarh on Monday to conduct a workshop at the Government College of Art-10. He also talks about evolving architecture and the forces that drive it.

Adhering to the same line of thought, Marc created the installation, Cage, inside the courtyard of Paris Art College in France. The basic structure was made of bamboo, the floor was used as a stage by an expert freestyle dancer and the lighting system further helped express the idea. “The thought behind the installation was that we only take references from the history, but don’t follow it up entirely. Cage denoted the history part and the freestyle dancing depicted our desire to gain new experiences.”

While in India, he has clicked images of Kathak, Giddha and Bhangra performers, which he will incorporate in his future installations. “You just don’t make an art piece, you make a collage. For the multilayered society we are living in, no single art form can wholly do justice to any theme.” Don’t be surprised if he uses these images in his art installations in the near future!

He believes that beautiful structures result only when architecture and art are used in synchronization. “Try making installations without application of the basics of architecture and the art structure will collapse in no time. At the same time, architecture without art is just a heap of bricks.” But even when the combination is good, it doesn’t guarantee that the end product will be worthwhile. Marc blames capitalism for all the problems. “Art and architecture are now dependent on the economy; how much money the government has.”

For example, the rich people stay condensed in the capital while the middle class and those from the lower strata of society are pushed into the suburbs. “Architecture doesn’t define the lay out of the city; it is only the rich people who do. Exactly this happened in case of the Great Paris City, which is the combined project for the suburbs of the capital. Even this project is a complete failure, as the rich are again the people who are buying the property.”

When it comes to Chandigarh, Marc is happy to see the layout since its master-plan focuses more on horizontal than vertical expansion, “Something you don’t see in the modern cities of the world now.” At the same time, he also feels that it is a challenge for the city authorities to stick to the original line of action. “Any city’s parameter of development is now the number of skyscrapers it has. That is the general perception. So what matters is till when the people here can stay unaffected by the world’s point of view; the capitalists’ point of view.” We hope for a very very long time!

Bald move

All about Locks: Willow Smith Will Smith’s music-minded daughter Willow Smith has taken the bold decision to shave off the long braids that helped to make her famous. In the music video accompanying her 2010 hit single Whip My Hair,’ Smith was shown executing some whiplash-inducing moves, and doing exactly what the song said on the tin. However, the pictures on the 11 year-old pop star’s Who Say profile now shows her with a newly-shaven head.

A photo posted on February 2 shows the youngster pouting into the camera and showing off the family resemblance, with a haircut that’s not dissimilar to her father’s close-cropped hairstyle.

Prior to that, Willow had posted a black and white photo of her in a ballet studio, as well as another shot of her in action at the ballet studio, posted on January 13. On January 6, the child artiste had posted a photo of herself in a blonde and pink wavy wig. “Thank you @nikkiminaj you’re amazing.” Presumably, the wig was a gift from Minaj (who is renowned for her huge collection of colourful hairpieces), who guested on her most recent single, Fireball,” she wrote. — ANI

Bitter-sweet delight
Jigyasa Kapoor Chimra

Had it not been for a Dutchman named Van Houten (who figured out that if fat was extracted out of cocoa mix, he would get cocoa butter), we would never had the chocolate bar! And chocolate-lovers should also know that cacao has been cultivated for at least three millennia and its earliest documented use dates back to around 1100 BC.

Back in time it was mostly used as a beverage and the Meso-American people, including the Aztecs, made a beverage known as Xocoltl out of it, which meant ‘bitter water’. “But now there is more sweetness to the bitter taste and we have almost 22 flavours in chocolate,” says Nikhil Mittal from Nik Bakers.

He adds, “And when it comes to festivals, marriages or Valentine’s; chocolate is the most favoured gift. So we offer diverse flavours like carmel, dark truffle, mocha, cointreau, white truffle, blueberry, mango, almond rock and hazelnut. Other than this, we have liquor chocolates too; the most-liked are champagne and vodka-filled chocos.”

Although chocolates add to the extra calories, dark chocolates are beneficial for the heart. “If eaten in moderation, dark chocolates are healthy. They contain a large number of antioxidants,” says Nalini, nutrition consultant from Panchkula.

Well, some studies have also shown that consuming a small bar of dark chocolate can reduce blood pressure in individuals with high BP. “But this information does not mean that you should eat a pound of chocolate a day. Chocolate is a high-calorie, high-fat food and most studies use no more than 100 gms of dark chocolate,” says Nalini.

“The trend of eating chocolates has changed over the years and it’s no more about just sweet chocolates. People like diverse flavours and for this Valentine’s we have cardamom cinnamon and even chilli chocolates. These chilly chocolates have a spicy tinge to it; they taste sweet and spicy. Other than that, right from crunchy to fruity to white to dark chocolates; there is a range to choose from,” says Priya Garg from Ovenfresh.

Well, Tom Hanks was right in the movie ‘Forrest Gump’ when he said that you never know what you're going to get when you open a box of chocolates!

Geet Alok Sharma, a young 24-year-old, brings his passion for photography to life
Vasudha Gupta

Photographs have an innate method of taking one to a place which he may have never visited in his life. The entire concept of transporting one into a moment alone garners a new meaning, when the young blood Geet Alok Sharma from Chandigarh starts talking with his camera.

All of 24, and having completed his graduation from the University of Wisconsin, Milwakee, Geet stumbled upon photography during his visits to the surrounding parks and through his walks in Milwakee.

“All the pictures are spontaneous and I don’t really follow a set of rules,” he says. With no formal training, Geet feels that training might end up restricting his horizon. “There is no doubt that I hope to hone my skills through some kind of a course, but even without, I have managed to click some exotic photographs,” he says.

Also an avid sailor, several pictures of his is a result of his travels. “I have few friends and don’t mind taking pointers from them as well,” he laughs.

Having started four years ago, during high school, Geet prefers creating a perfect composition in nature to give life to his skill. “I haven’t been able to expand much since taking it to a professional level needs more time and effort but yes, since its winter, capturing coyotes and wolves is interesting,” he says.

Living in the US since the past nine years, his current exhibition, on at the Girl in the Café is only a spec of his complete body of work. “My personal favourite is the tree branch lying on the beach. It comes from the coast and depicts as if it is half way into the beach. It gives a false impression of an exotic location,” he laughs. “It’s shot at a beach close by,” he says. Currently waiting for his work visa to come through, Geet does not mind taking his passion to a professional level at the right time.

Par Excellence
DRIVER–THE SET UP
Jesse Grewal

To hit the ball far with the ‘Driver’ we need a combination of technology (equipment), technique, timing and the player’s intrinsic speed. In terms of technique, the first step is the set-up. The distance the ball travels depends on the width of the swing, the length of the arc, the work of the levers (body, arms and wrists) the speed of the swing and apart from this the launch angle of the ball and its spin rate. The set-up influences the launch angle, spin rate and also the width of the arc and therefore has a great role in influencing distance.

The distance the ball will fly is a combination of its launch angle and the spin rate. Spin rate is the backspin generated on the ball and it is this which makes the ball stay airborne. The higher the backspin, the more the ball will climb upwards. Too much backspin makes the ball keep rising and lose distance and also reduces the roll on landing. Launch angle is the angle at which the ball takes off from the club face. Ideal launch angles vary from 10 to 15 degrees. The higher the club head speed is the lower the launch angle needs to be. Faster swings also create more spin rate. With a higher spin rate we need a lower launch angle.

The only way we can create a launch angle of 10 to 15 degrees with a 9 degree driver is to hit the ball on the upswing. If we hit the ball on the downswing we will have a low launch angle and a lot of backspin. To hit the ball on the upswing we have to create the right set up. Place the ball on a high tee. Join your feet in front of the ball (picture1). Turn your left foot a little outwards (picture 2). Take your right foot away to a wider stance (picture3). While doing this feel your spine tilt away from the target. This makes your right shoulder well lower than the left and your weight will be a little more on the right side (picture 4). The hands will be in line with the club head and not ahead of it as it is with the irons. This set up will help you hit the ball on the upswing. Hover the club a little in the air before the takeaway. This helps widening the arc of the back swing as we do not end up snatching the club away or lifting the club vertically. The takeaway should be with the shoulders with no wrist action.

HEART TALK
Age is just a number!
Parvesh Rana

I’m a 35-year-old unmarried man and I’m running my own business. I have a personal secretary who is 25 and we both are pretty close to each other. Lately, I am thinking of proposing her for marriage, but I don’t know whether it will work out as we have a major age difference. What should I do?

Manoj, Chandigarh

You are not that old and one can fall in love at any point in life. If you both like each other, you should give it a try and some women like mature husbands who pamper and support them. If you are already close, I don’t think there will be any problem to take the relation further.

I’m a twenty-six year girl and just got married. Mine is an arranged marriage. I had a love affair with some other guy but things did not work out. My husband loves me a lot but somewhere I can’t forget my past. Please tell me what I should do?

Kavita, Panchkula

Marriage is such a beautiful thing to happen in life. Everyone has a past but that does not mean that you ruin your present and future for that. Your ex was not destined to be with you. It is a bit difficult but you should now be loyal to your husband. You can take time to know him and then one fine day you will fall in love and then life will be perfect.

Russell’s new love
Comedian Russell Brand moves on to another woman just after filling his divorce

New love: Russell Brand Just months after he filed for divorce from pop star wife Katy Perry, comedian Russell Brand is said to have set his sights on Zooey Deschanel. The 36-year-old funnyman is said to be determined to woo Perry lookalike Deschanel, who filed for divorce from her husband Ben Gibbard just three days before Brand’s split announcement.

“Russell has had his eye on Zooey for a long time. And he’s been sending funny, flirty texts to see if they can get together. He thinks she’s hysterically funny and cute, too. He loves her quirky sense of humour, and thinks they’d be great together both on-and off-screen. There’s a real spark there,” a source said.

However, while Deschanel is said to be ‘intrigued’ by Brand’s interest in her.

“But she’s heard about his reputation as a womanizer, and isn’t sure whether she’s ready to rush into another relationship so quickly,” the source added.

Deschanel is also apparently very aware that she looks strikingly similar to Perry and has been mistaken for her by fans.

“No, she (Perry) is really pretty,” she said. — PTI

Documenting each moment

Hollywood actress Liv Tyler says she loves to document everything she does by taking photos.

The 34-year-old, who has a seven-year-old son Milo with ex-husband Royston Langdon, said she is fascinated by capturing moments on film because she has gone through so much change throughout her life. “Obsessively, I have thousands of pictures on my phone.

I’ve had so much change in my life. In my whole life things have changed constantly so psychologically I’m sure I’m quite sentimental. “I want to remember the feeling, not only what it looks like. When it’s happening, it’s so wonderful but I know it’s gonna change or not gonna last. Everything changes so I want to remember it because I feel grateful for it,” Tyler said. The brunette beauty, who is the daughter of Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler, also said she worries about having to raise Milo in the public eye.

“I’m very grateful that I didn’t have to grow up in the public eye and I got to grow up in Maine and have a real childhood.

“I do have my worries for Milo. I mean, we live in Manhattan in a huge house, and we have a staff and we have a very different life. He would be happiest if we lived in the country somewhere, just the two of us,” she added. — PTI

Close and comfortable

Reel to real: Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson Even as rumour mills are abuzz about the growing proximity between Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson, he says that they are very close and comfortable with each other.

Ever since Prateik and Amy started shooting for Gautham Menon’s romantic film, Ekk Deewana Tha, which releases on February 17, gossip mongers have been chirping about the couple dating each other.

Commenting on the talks about him dating Amy, Prateik said, “She is a very hard girl to please...to be honest.” Prateik has been spotted with Amy arm-in-arm at various award ceremonies and events.

“When you have to shoot something like this (romantic film) then you have no choice but to have a chemistry. We are extremely close, we support each other’s career, we back and help each other.

There is obviously chemistry, but we worked on it and I hope people appreciate it. We are close and comfortable with each other,” he said.

As he has been often spotted in Amy’s building, there were reports that Prateik has moved in with Amy and lives with her in her Bandra home but the actor denied it.

“I feel good about it. She is beautiful...isn’t she. If speculation about me moving with her goes, then I am happy about it. But no, we haven’t,” Prateik said. — PTI

Miley comes to Moore’s defense
Miley Cyrus speaks in support of Demi Moore, and requests the media to leave her alone. Being in Hollywood does not mean that drugs are a part of them

Miley Cyrus has spoken out in defense of Demi Moore, who is undergoing treatment for substance abuse in a rehab. The 19-year-old singer took to her Facebook account to show her support. “Everyone needs to leave Demi alone,” she wrote.

“She’s been through so much the past year. She doesn’t need the crap. “How can you talk crap on someone you don’t know?” she wrote. According to reports, Moore has checked into Cirque Lodge rehab center in Utah for treatment of anorexia and prescription and club drug abuse. Cyrus is adamant Moore’s troubles have nothing to do with illegal substances.

“The media makes everyone in Hollywood seem “weak,” “stupid,” or “unbalanced” ...Just because she’s in Hollywood doesn’t mean she’s on drugs. NOT EVERYONE IS ON DRUGS!!! “Put yourself in her shoes.

“How are you supposed to hold up while everyone in the world is so naive and they believe everything the media says? Almost her entire life has been in the public eye,” she wrote. — ANI

Witherspoon’s prejudice…

Surprised star: Reese Witherspoon Actress Reese Witherspoon was surprised to learn her Water for Elephants co-star Robert Pattinson was “gracious and smart” as she had expected him to be a “spoiled-rotten brat”.

The 35-year-old teamed up with the Twilight Saga heartthrob to star in the film last year and said she was pleasantly surprised by her co-star’s humility. “I think everybody was looking at him expecting to see, ‘Urgh, this guy’s some spoiled-rotten brat’ and he wasn’t. He was incredibly gracious, smart and shy. He’s a very grateful person,” Witherspoon said. She was impressed by the British star’s devotion to his fans. “At the London premiere, people slept out in sleeping bags but he takes the time to say hello to everybody and sign autographs,” she added.— PTI

Agent Vinod to become a franchise?

Desi Bond: Saif Ali Khan Agent Vinod, Saif Ali Khan’s much awaited action-thriller is yet to release but the actor is already planning to make it into a franchise.

Produced by Saif under the banner of Illuminati Films, Agent Vinod features Saif along with his real life lady-love Kareena Kapoor.

If Agent Vinod turns out to be a box-office hit, then Saif would consider making sequels to it, much like the James Bond series, of which, approximately 22 films have been made so far.

When asked about it, Saif said, “Hope so, if the film does well and audiences likes it. If it is popular, then of course we will look forward to making it a series.” The Sriram Raghavan-directed venture, which was beset with teething problems in its early stages, will finally release on March 23.

“It is a big and interesting film so it is bound to be in news be it for the delay or the film getting over-budget.

We don’t have to bother about it. The minute the first trailer comes out, nobody thinks why delay...late and all,” Saif said. “Films take time and we were little inexperienced, as we thought we can do it one year. But with the kind of action, the kind of locations we are shooting in, the kind of things we did for the movie...these things took a longer time than I thought of. But it doesn’t matter. As we all are satisfied with the finished product and happy to share it with everyone,” he said. — PTI

Yehi hai right time
Sudhir Mishra thinks it’s good time for experimental cinema in Bollywood

Sudhir Mishra Sudhir Mishra, the man behind cult films like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Dharavi, feels that the industry is going through a great phase as actors and directors are finding it easy to make experimental films.

The manner of producing, directing and acting in films is undergoing a rapid change. It is good time in Bollywood for making different kind of films. During the 80s and 90s, making different cinema was fraught with all sorts of problems and obstacles, Mishra said.

He said a new kind of cinema is taking shape and a new India is emerging in which people want to see stories that are connected to reality.

The scriptwriter-director, on a brief visit to the city, said the challenge for filmmakers now is to make films which have a “real link” without being dull.

He said directors like Prakash Jha, Imtiaz Ali, Raju Irani, Shriram Raghavan and Vishal Bhardwaj, who are working with big stars are not averse to making realistic films. Mishra said he and other directors like Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee were making a different kind of cinema. The Yeh Saali Zindagi director said he did not agree with the view that the story in films is losing out to technique. — PTI

Urvashi is making a special appearance on the show and returning to TV after a hiatus.

What is your role in the show?

Komolika is a psychiatrist who knows Viraj played by Karanvir Bohra inside out. Viraj has been her patient and she will tell dadi that Viraj suffers from OCPD and that he’s had issues in his childhood. The role is very positive and I am looking forward to this character. My role is introduced at a critical juncture of the show and it is a special appearance.

How did it feel to play a positive role as you have been known for your vamp roles?

It was tough and I didn’t expect it to be this tough. I was at ease about playing the negative role but I didnt realise that playing a positive one would be so difficult. Yet I am having fun.

Tell us about the look.

In the role of a psychiatrist, I have a subtle look. Though the name is Komolika, I wear big bindis and sleeveless blouses but not the eyebrow raising bit. It is a softer look.

What was your reaction when you heard your character was called Komolika?

It was funny and amusing. I didn’t know about it when I accepted the role. Only when I came on sets, I got to know about it.

How was the experience of doing a Gujarati reality show?

It was fun as I met numerous talented people. I am amazed at the talent we have in this country.

How does it feel to be back on TV?

It is wonderful to do a role that has substance and a show which is engaging. I am glad to be part of this show.

Back in action

All set: Piyush Sahdev Piyush Sahdev who was seen as Arjun in Geet - Hui Sabse Parayi is all set to return with Life Ok's upcoming show Hum ne li hai... Shapath, an anecdote of strong cops against the faulty system with exciting police cases weaved in. Piyush gets chatty about his character, role and more…

How did Hum ne li hai... Shapath  happen?

I was on a break for few months post Geet to get back in shape and Shapath was the first role I was called for. I loved the role, it’s different, never done on TV. I really wanted to do it but the channel rejected me saying, "He is too fair and good-looking to be a cop". I was really disheartened but I never left hope. Somehow they called me back and this time seeing my performance, they finalized me for the role.

Tell us about your role.

Abhigyan is the son of a business tycoon but chooses to work for his country rather than doing his family business, he is tough and a very honest police officer. Hope through this role, we will be able to inspire the Indian police force to always fight for justice and support the common people.

You play a cop in the show. Have you been preparing for the role?

I lost seven kgs for the role to look really lean. I have been meeting cops, Observing their body language and especially how they interrogate.

How's your rapport with Hasan Zaidi and Madura Nayak?

My rapport with Hasan and Madura is great. Hasan has a great sense of humour, so I really enjoy his company!

You also love to workout and have a great body. Share some fitness tips.

I have a ligament tear in my knee and I had a small accident on sets recently in which I dislocated the same knee but I still don’t miss my gym. So you can imagine how crazy I am about my fitness.

Enticing reality

Singer Seal has postponed his upcoming Australian tour dates so that he can film reality TV show The Voice. The Kiss from a Rose hitmaker, who split from wife Heidi Klum last month, joins Keith Urban and Good Charlotte star Joel Madden on the upcoming Australian version of the hit US reality series.

However, his commitment to the show has forced him to re-arrange a number of gigs, which were due to start this week. "I'm so excited to be going back and forth to Australia over the coming five months filming The Voice and touring. "I'm really sorry we've had to move the dates, but hopefully it hasn't put anyone out, and we'll just make sure the shows are even better to make up for it!" he said in a statement.

Raising the bar

Next step: Gajendra Singh Gajendra Singh, the pioneer of many super hit musical reality shows like Sa Re Ga Ma, Voice Of India, Music Ka Maha Muqaabla and Chhote Ustad is back with another big scale musical reality show, Sur-Kshetraon Sahara One television. The show will provide talents from India and Pakistan. Music has always inspired Gajendra Singh to explore new avenues. With this show he aims to touch newer heights and create a new musical world. We talk to him about the show.

How did this show happen?

Boney Kapoor, Sahara One Entertainment head came up with an idea to begin with what better than a show like Sur-Kshetra, with the best of singing talents from India and Pakistan competing against each other. It is a big challenging responsibility for me and I am really excited about it.

Tell us about Sur Kshetra?

The show will be judged by the legendary Asha Bhonsle, Abida Parveen and Runa Laila. There will be two teams of singers. Singer-music director turned actor Himesh Reshmmiya will captain the Indian team while his counterpart singer turned actor Atif Aslam will lead the team from across the border. The scale of this show is very big.

What is USP of this show?

It is a three month long musical show, the first on Sahara One TV in 2012. The shooting has already been started in Dubai and will have its finale in London. I have been making for the last three decades to better cultural ties between India and Pakistan through music. Sur Kshetra is the best platform which will provide true singing talents.

How is this show different from the other shows?

With this show, we are making an attempt to revive the golden era and to bring forth the best of talent. The show has a different format. There will be good musicians from both countries, including new bands. Viewers will experience and cherish a set of new generation of singing talents. — Dharam Pal
