Dairy owners fined Rs 2,000
Ambala, January 29 Residents of Ward No.6 had lodged a complaint following which action was taken against the three. Ashwani Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Subhash were fined Rs 2,000 each and were instructed to clean the area and shift the dairies immediately. The project pertaining to the shifting of dairies to the outskirts has been hanging fire since long. A few months ago the district administration had issued orders to the owners of dairies in the city to shift these to other areas in view of an imminent spread of epidemic diseases perceived by the administration. Earlier, the municipal corporation had taken an initiative to shift all dairies to Khatoli and Kanwali villages, near here. An amount of Rs 1.48 crore was earmarked to construct the complex. A piece of land was also acquired by the government. But the dairy owners had opposed the move. Deputy Commissioner had recently asked the officials concerned to keep residential areas and nullahs clean. There are nearly 150 dairies in the city. |

Training programme for teachers
Ambala, January 29 Addressing media persons here Brij Soni, president of SD College Society (Lahore) from New Delhi said that without inspired teachers there could not be inspired children and that was why the management of the school had collaborated with the renowned curriculum and assessment experts to hold this four-day seminar, from January 25-28, for the personal development of teachers. This was backed by widely experienced experts of national repute including Sonia Kullar and Urmila Chowdury. According to the Sonia, the school had four seminars: phonics, creating caring classroom and circle time, making math come alive, and dimensions of learning. Training sessions were held on January 25-26 by Sonia kullar for the teachers of LKG, UKG, Class 1 and Class 2, and on January 27-28 by Urmila Chowdury for the teachers up to class VIII. Sonia Kullar said that on Jan 25, the first day of the workshop, teachers were informed about the techniques to teach beginners how to pronounce words. Lectures on Jan 26 were held to encourage teachers to view the classroom from the the perspective of students. On the third day, experts held workshop on creating the right environment for learning, while on the fourth day, different methods of teaching grammar to students up to class VIII were discussed. |

18 students get offer letters
Dera Bassi, January 29 Visiting executives informed the final year students about the potential opportunities in the industry. Over 240 students attended the presentation made by the companies. Three rounds of interviews were held during the event, and 18 students were finally given offer-letters at handsome packages. CEO SK Arora said that the PGC Group would keep such placement drives on top priority and would continue to call leading companies to the campus in future as well. He added that the group’s mission was to educate, train and help students get placement in reputed organisations. Chairman Parmod Dhawan congratulated the selected students and wished them a bright future. |
Three held for snatching mobile phone, cash
Panchkula, January 29 The three have been identified as Satish, Dharamvir and Sonu. Their accomplices were still at large, the police said. The incident occurred at around 4 pm on January 16 last when Kumar was heading home. He was stopped by four unidentified men who asked him to hand over his mobile and cash. The accused stabbed him on his thigh when he refused to hand over the same. Before fleeing, they took away his mobile and Rs 2,000. |

Chandigarh, January 29 Batting first, the winning side set a target of 203 runs after loosing six wickets in 25 overs. Navansh (86) and Anirudh (58) took the team to a respectable total. For the bowling side, Kuljinder, Saurav and Aseem took two wickets each. In reply, the losing side were bundled out for 139 runs. Simran done the damage to the batting side after taking 5 for 23 while his counterpart Arjun Singla grabbed 3 for 17. Batsman Saurav(42) was the only run-getter for the team. Navansh of Vivek High Asian Cricket Academy was adjudged man match of match. PU handball team emerge champs
Chandigarh, January 29 The local team defeated Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, in the final. In the decider, Amritsar went down against the trophy winners 14-11 to finish fourth in the tourney. In the league match for attaining runners-up and third positions in the competition, Kurukshetra University defeated MDU, Rohtak, by a narrow margin of 39-37. |
Gallant Cricket Club script win
Chandigarh, January 29 Batting first, GCC scored a total of 216 for 3 in 25 overs, with Chiraag Verma contributing 139 runs . He was equally supported by Arun Luthra , who contributed 48 runs to the team’s total. For the bowling side, Aman Jaggi (2 for 33) and Abhishek (1 for 37) did the honours for the team. While chasing the target, LWCC got an early setback after their opener Neeraj was sent to back without opening his account by Vikram. Loveneesh Verma (21) and Aman Jaggi (58) performed well.
