Shadow on Karmapa
The
Una Police filed a chargesheet against the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley
Dorjee under Section 120-B of the IPC. He
is considered the third most important Tibetan religious head after
the Dalai Lama and the Panchen Lama.
The
Karmapa has been named as the conspirator in the case. Legally, he
would have to face charges under all sections of the IPC imposed
against other accused.
Since almost all
sections are non-bailable offences under the IPC, Karmapa would have
to seek bail in the case. On January 28 this year, the police
recovered currencies of 26 countries, including 1,20,197 Chinese yuan
and around Rs 5.3 million in Indian currency, from the Karmapa’s
Gyuto Tantric University and Monastery on the outskirts of Dharamsala.
