Married to telly
When was the last time you heard that marriages are made in heaven? After Rakhi Sawant zeroed-in on Elesh Parujanwala after a high-voltage drama or when Rahul Mahajan after all the Big Boss showmanship went on to choose Dimpy Ganguly as his wife or petite television actor Ratan Rajput finding a var on TV, most people have stopped believing in the marriages are made in heaven funda.
And now we are told that Veena Malik will be selecting an Indian groom in
Veena Malik Ka Swayamvar! People why are you hell bent on murdering our faith in
the institution of marriage! While Aishmit Patel (the real pronunciation) and Pakistani cricketer Asif order sherwaanis for them, we quiz people from Chandigarh which celebrity they would like to see holding a swayamvar. Ideas run helter-skelter and we try to gather a few for them. Rakhi once more
The drama queen managed to spin an interesting yarn with Rakhi Ka Swayamvar. Those of you who dared to sit through the entire series know the swayamvar was more like a selection for junior police constables! Siddharth Ahuja, a city-based model who has done character roles in Punjabi movies wants to see Rakhi Sawant again with Swayamvar 2. "How does it matter to her, I bet Rakhi would be more than willing to pull this one up. Besides, shows like these make fun of the institution of marriage by reducing it to the level of a game." Siddharth has a wacky idea. "Rakhi should invite all the bachelor politicians for her swayamvar and make them dance to her tunes."
Ditto for Karan Ahuja, another model who walked the ramp for Lakme Fashion Week. He votes for Rakhi Sawant, "Only she can make a comic mockery of marriage. I suggest cricketers should specially take part in this event." We want Rahul This is an obvious and an expected pick. Every unmarried girl in India wants to know when is Rahul tying a knot. Rahul Gandhi Ka Swayamvar will be an ideal thing in this scenario. "I wish I was born in a politician's family, I would have had a chance to at least approach him. The ideal thing for him would be a swayamvar and you bet just about every girl on this planet would take part in it," laughs Jaskiran Sandhu, an MBA aspirant from Panchkula who
also designs web pages for celebrities. jasmine@tribunemail.com
They make it too
Veena Malik, Sambhavana Seth, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Al Pacino, Yuvraj Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Virat Kohli Ranbir Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan are some of the names that can pull off a great
Swayamvar. |

Aryan Vaid goes for a few quick push-ups before he dons the see-through shirt for a collection by Hari Anand at Blenders Pride Punjab International Fashion Week 2011. So how important is physique to him? "It is very important, both for the fashion world and otherwise," he says.

I am a slow designer, says Nicole Richie
Fashion designer Nicole Richie says she is very slow when
designing new products because she wants them to be the best possible.
"To me, success isn't measured by dollar signs. It's really about paying attention to feedback and talking to my customer. "With everything I do, I want to make sure that I take the time and make each category the best that it can be. I tend to move very slowly and I do that on purpose so that I can make sure that everything that I design really is the best version of what it is," she said. —

All the girls….party!
Is it like invading the hitherto male turf? Or is it the female version of the very notorious bachelor parties? To begin with, there are all girls; one of them is about to take the longest one-way road of her life and the whole aim is to have fun on one of those evenings when it's good to be a feminist.
This summer, Kate Moss was already planning a hen's night out, which receives thumbs up in more ways than one! Increasingly, a bachelorette party is one of the must-have pre-wedding bashes. "The best part about a hen night-out is the obvious part of it - that there are all girls. It's like having that all-girls, no strings attached, no holds barred fun," shares Sakshi Bawa, passout from University Institute of Legal Studies. She adds, "I feel it should be one of the must-have parties because it's like spending the last of the good times with your friend who's now all set to enter a different phase of her life. After marriage no one's ever the same." It's not for nothing then, that celebrity hen parties play the perfect fodder for paparazzi, get splashed across the supplements and are meant only for either TV shows or tabloids. "I love the fact that it's an all girls affair because girls all by themselves are much more fun. There is no pretense or artificiality that comes with boys being around," Tanvi Dhull, fashion designing student, lists some of the not-so-obvious factors. She still recalls her elder sister's hen-cum-slumber party with fond memories. Among the current crop of celebs, perhaps Christina Aguilera started the trend by taking her friends to a resort in Mexico while Rihanna threw a hen party for friend Katy. It was only this July that supermodel Kate Moss was being talked about for planning a second hen party in Paris. The supermodel was reported to have booked rooms in a luxury hotel so that she and her friends could enjoy another bash in the French capital. Says Kismet of The Unreal Brides, who's organised countless photo booths for the hen parties in the region, "It's an occasion where the girls can let themselves loose. And if it has a theme, all the more better. It gives the bride something to look forward to, a night-out where she can just live the last moments of single life before it gets all serious." And for the rest of the gang, it's an opportunity to say the final bye to the once 'single' friend; freeze all the good memories together in a camera, relive the moments and create some new ones!

What’s in a pudding
Women can spend up to 20 minutes planning whether or not to have puddings at restaurants, as they are too self-conscious to order a dessert, a study has found. Since they do not want to be branded "unhealthy," they spend a lot of time deciding whether to have pudding.
According to the conducted on 3,000 Britons by Crown Carveries, men don't think twice about wading into a calorie-packed pudding, which also helps the 60 per cent of women who prefer to share the dessert with them. Meanwhile, six out of 10 said that they felt it was difficult to get traditional desserts, with many fearing that they were dying out. "It was really interesting to see so many traditional puddings appearing high on the list of men's favourites," the Daily Express quoted Chris Brewer of Crown Carveries as saying. "Perhaps our taste buds have come full circle as we search for a bit of nostalgia on pudding plates," he added. — ANI

Truly desi
We saw the duo of John Abraham and Akshay Kumar as comedy men in Garam Masala and now they are back with their smarty pants looks in Desi Boyz. So if the jodi is hitting back again the song, Make Some Noise For The Desi Boyz is perfectly apt to announce it to the audience. With the lyrical magic by Irshad Kamil, Kumaar and Amitabh Bhattacharya and the voice of KK and Bob the song has a mixture of English, Hindi as well as Punjabi tadka which can be felt when you hear the song. The lyrics are being lapped up especially by the guys who want to woo the girls with their style and attitude but want to maintain they are still desi at heart. And the girls like it too!
Hot appeal
Both John and Akshay have unique appeals of their own and they both are hot hunks so I truly love the song Desi Boyz as it sort of gives out the true picture of the guys that, men will remain men. The tag line Make Some Noise is energising . According to me it is a crazy dance number with amazing beats.
Sanjana Ahuja, BA second year,MCM DAV College
Gedi number
was tired of playing Punjabi and English songs while going out for a gedi. As I feel the Bollywood songs don't give a good effect with the woofers but now I'm crazy for this song as I love the way KK and Bob have lent their voice to it. It's a smooth song and boosts my confidence as I feel that the song has an amazing connect with the boys.
Harshit Kapoor, BA final year,Khalsa College
Energising effect
I feel KK's racy and pulsating vocals energize the entire feel of the song with a set of eclectically high thriving paced effects. Bob's crazy rap is an added delight that gives it snooty and masculine shades and makes it a likable listening feast for urbane listeners. Also, its bouncy club-remix version packs an extra dosage of hip-hop rap that is mixed well with optimum proportion of signature beats and DJ scratches.

Boss woes
It is not only ill-health that compels employees to take a day off, but their bosses also, a new study has revealed. The study revealed that workers who rated their manager as 'good' were more likely to feel bad about taking a day off than those with 'poor' managers.
Almost a quarter of those who rated their manager 'poorly' said they had taken a day off because they hated their boss as compared to just 4 per cent with 'good' bosses. The overall study revealed that there were around two-thirds of Australian workers who admitted to taking fake sick days off. The underlying reasons behind taking fake sick leave according to research by global recruiters SHL were: burn-out from long work hours and work pressures (33 per cent); family problems (27 per cent); wanting to do "other things" (12 per cent); and boredom (9 per cent), News.com.au reported. Four per cent also blamed the weather saying that they could not stand the commute under those conditions. According to SHL's national director Stephanie Christopher, there had been a rise in companies hiring under-skilled managers and this was having an effect on satisfaction in the workplace. SHL commissioned the Galaxy poll survey of 1,299 working Australians adults. —

Dine in luxury
We were looking for right words that could describe the newly opened Smoke House Deli, all day dining restaurant at Sector-7, Chandigarh, when we bump into restaurateur Riyaaz Amlani of Impresario, who does the trick with a few words, "Smoke House Delhi is like walking into a sketch book, not overwhelming yet very natural." An up, close and personal moment at the place would validate it.
A venture of Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality Private Limited, the place is a transition from formal dining to casual spacing concept. In Chandigarh, the manifestation of Smoke House Deli is handled by Nitin Trehan, Manan Aggarwal and Pankaj Gulati of Apurity Hospitality. As for the place, off-white neat interiors, spacious vibrant without being fancy, Smoke House Deli, with its relaxed ambience, boasts of being a cut above the rest. An extensive and different menu is another thing that will catch your attention. Vanilla pancakes, maple syrup and cream, biscuit and gravy, spinach plus ricotta ravioli, ked lamb shanks and gravy, wild mushroom plus artichoke crepe gratin will enhance the eating pleasure. A variety of mocktails and wines to choose from, the place encourages conversation over food. Star track
Imtiaz Ali has earned tremendous goodwill as a filmmaker. After the cult success of Socha Na Tha and the smashing success of Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal, he talks of his just released movie. He talks about his ambitious film starring Nargis Fakhri and Ranbir Kapoor.
How did Rockstar happen? When I was working on Socha Na Tha, Rockstar came to my mind but since my first film didn't do well, I was not sure whether Rockstar would be made easily or not as it's a big budget film. The script was not turning out right and things were not working out. Then I made Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal, still my mind and heart were somewhere with Rockstar but things were still not working out. I approached Ranbir Kapoor for another script and from then Rockstar happened as we started discussing Rockstar and he really liked the script. If not Ranbir Kapoor, whom you would have signed? I don't know. I approached many actors whom I don't want to name. I feel Ranbir suits the role best. He is a born actor but still very grounded as he is always ready to learn new things. He has been with me since the scripting of the film. I asked him to get involved in making the music; he did because he was supposed to know music from inside-out while playing a rockstar. He is simply brilliant and when you watch Rockstar you will get to know that. How did you zero in on Nargis Fakhri? I wanted a new face who people could relate to as an actor. I was not getting anyone else then I decided to audition new people and Nargis came in the spotlight. She has the Indian touch in her. You seem to be the new king of romantic films? (Smiles) Romance is something which I love to make. After all I am born in India and have seen romantic films since my childhood so I find telling people love stories very interesting. Love stories are accepted in India because we are romantics at heart and we still dream of a love marriage. It's in our blood so I like to make romantic films. What are the future projects you are working on? I will take a break and then get back to work and decide which script to take up.
Rash brash brigade
Sonam Kapoor looks super hot and sexy in the promos of Players. The young and happening style icon talks about her fascination for technology and doing the film.
Tell us something about your character in the film Players? I play the character of Naina Briganza who is mad about cars! Basically she loves rash driving and racing cars. And something else that she loves to do is to hack computers. Apart from that she loves making Abhishek's life a living hell in the film. What made you sign Players? Actually Abbas Mustan and my dad have worked earlier so they just asked him one day if I liked cars and knew driving? So my dad said yes, she loves cars but she is a very rash driver. And they were like - this is exactly what they wanted. And then I read the script and decided to do the film because it's a superb script and I always wanted to work with Abbas Mustan as they have made some great and entertaining movies. So tell us something about your experience? You know what I enjoyed the most while shooting for Players? I drive a car called Mini Cooper which is a super car. It's a very small car and only two people can sit in it and it's very fast. I use to drive it like hell while shooting. That was the amazing experience. I always wanted to drive that car and finally in Players I got a chance. Are you a technology freak? Yes, I am mad about technology because I belong to a generation that lives on mobiles and computers. I am in touch with everyone over the phone or else I am playing video games or breaking code games on my computer. I have all new tech gadgets at home and I keep myself updated. Once again you have paired up with Abhishek. Yes, and working with him is the coolest thing because he doesn't have any drama. He comes to work, shoots and he has a great sense of humour and whenever he is around everyone is happy. And as we have worked earlier, there is a kind of comfort level. Have you seen the Italian Job? Yes, I have seen both the films but Abbas Mustan has bought the rights of the older Italian Job. They wanted to make that film as it was the inspiration. But this film is a little different and especially my character is more of a modern Goan girl. Today where Censor Board asks to edit every scene they don't seem to be bothered about your middle finger scene in Players? Good na! But it's something which every youth does. There is nothing like a bad meaning in it. Have you seen MI:4's promo? How did you like it? Ohh! I think it's mind blowing. And Dad was so excited and happy about it. He did the film as a MI fan. He has a special appearance in the film.

I don't want to be a gimmick: Rihanna
R&B star Rihanna has assumed a more natural look for her latest album Talk That Talk because she does not want to become a gimmick.
The 23-year-old singer is renowned for having crazy, ever-changing hairstyles and colours and making outrageous music videos, but she has now decided to strip things back to focus on her singing, reported a publication online. "I kind of just wanted to scale back, instead of having a look. I didn't want to make it such a big deal, like what hair colour. I wanted to go back to something simple, something flexible; something a little more natural. It's more about the music. I don't want to become a gimmick, ever," she said. The singing star also said she thinks her latest single, You Da One, is kind of dirty. "This is one of those records, it becomes very addictive. To me, it's very infectious: the more you listen to it, the more you want to listen to it," she added. — PTI

Suicidal tendencies
Hollywood star George Clooney considered killing himself six years ago, after he injured himself while filming Syriana in 2005. The 50-year-old actor injured himself while filming the spy thriller and he was so racked with pain as a result of the spinal condition that he thought of ending his life, reported a magazine.
"I started to think, 'I may have to do something drastic about this'. I was in a hospital bed, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like you're having a stroke. "You don't want to leave a mess, so go in the garage, go in the car, start the engine. I was in a place where I was trying to figure out how to survive," he said. —

A prominent five-star hotel in New Delhi showered Raveena Tandon with special attention and treats.

John: Akshay is my mentor
John Abraham's last film Force was well accepted by audiences and his physique and acting were talked about. He hopes to continue with his hit spree with Desi Boyz.
Desi Boyz It's a fun film and it's not a sequel to Garam Masala. It's totally different from Garam Masala. Actually it's almost a real story that Rohit Dhawan, who makes his debut as a director with this film, has made. It's about two guys and how they managed to come out of recession. And then two girls who are their love interests, also have a role to play. It's a comedy film but has an emotional angle too. On Akshay Kumar He is like a mentor to me and he is very down to earth and always in a funny mood. Actually during Desi Boyz we became close buddies because during this shoot we enjoyed a lot and our working cultures match. We both love workouts. So we bonded over workouts and work. Akshay is a guy who always gives space to his co-stars. How many big stars work in a multi starrer film? But Akshay has managed to work in multi-starrer films and still stay in the spotlight and that's what makes him a star. He adjusts to all kind of roles whether it's an action film, comedy or romantic. He will give his best to everything and that's an inspiring thing for a junior actor who works with him, like me. Comic timing Ohh yes, but I think that you decide after watching Desi Boyz. But as I said we bonded well so the friendship and chemistry comes onscreen also. But then there is more to the film. The film is about two guys who are rich and then suddenly recession hits and how they have to take some other job where they became rivals.

Titanic, in a 3D format
When Titanic became the most profitable movie ever, generating $1.8 billion, James Cameron was pleasantly surprised. It was, he joked, an unlikely triumph for a three-hour "chick-flick" to which everyone already knows the ending.
In a few months' time, Cameron will bring Titanic back to cinemas. It will remain three hours long, with the same tissue-drenching plot twists, and a denouement which surprises nobody. But this time, one big thing is different: audiences will be able to watch that very large ship sink in three dimensions.Cameron unveiled 18 minutes of his 3D remake to the media at Fox Studios in Los Angeles. A team of 300 technicians is spending 60 weeks converting the original, painstakingly cutting out objects on screen and pushing some to the foreground, some to the back. The work will cost $18m. "This is not about money," Cameron said. "This is about giving people an opportunity to see Titanic in theatres again." The project is at the cutting edge of Hollywood's latest trend. Thanks to the advent of 3D technology, film studios have suddenly realised that they can make new money from old ideas, by converting classics into new format.—Agencies
Less is more
Kate Winslet says her golden beauty rule is to go understated. The 36-year-old star says she always does her own make-up, reported a magazine. "I like to do my own make-up. I believe in less is more. Recently, I wore a simple, black Victoria Beckham column dress with long sleeves and small, gold belt detailing on the front. I knew that a curly hairdo would have completely gone against the dress, so we went for a high sculpted ponytail, with a little bit of height in the front. It pulled the whole look together," she said. Glamour to me is about remaining graceful and understated. For example, with very bold lip colours, you can't overdo the rest of your face," she added. Winslet's romance with Ned Rocknroll, who is nephew of business tycoon Richard Branson, is said to be going strong. The pair met at Branson's house and have officially been an item since August. Her new beau has met her two children too. —PTI

Sanjeeda Sheikh's Sahara One show Hi Padosi...Kaun Hai Doshi will change not just it's title but genre as well. In hope of getting better TRPs, the show's title Hi Padosi...Kaun Hai Doshi will change to Piya Ka Ghar Pyaara Lage while the genre from a comedy will switch to drama. The makers seem to have made this move post rumours of the show going off air. Sanjeeda Sheikh plays Sejal in the show who will be married but later her husband won't be working so life will get tough. We hope a saas-bahu drama works.

Shivshakti Sachdev is better known as Bebo from Sabki Laadli Bebo but now this young actress will essay a negative role on TV. She will play a double role in Raakesh Paswan's Afsar Bitiya and she is excited about the same.
She didn't want to be slotted in goody good roles. Ironically, in her last show Bebo too she played a double role in the fag end.
Ragini upset
Ragini Khanna has been scoring very well in Zee's Star Ya Rockstar but she got upset when her fellow contestants praised Chhavi. Her song,Chhaap Tilak Mohe Dini Tose Naina Milaayke got her a low score and Ragini's fun rendition of Mungdaa got high scores yet everyone praised
Chhavi.
Drasthi Dhami is in love. Though she plays the romantic Geet in Star One's show Geet, in real life her love is her work and her new I Pad. The I pad keeps her busy while she waits for the shots. The mirror is their scoreboard and she does not let anyone rub off the scores. She quipped about the new stalker entry in her show to the press saying "Geet is very rangeen mijaz, she has one too many lovers."
Despite the fact that gorgeous Aishwarya Sakuja has been busy with work in her hit show Sony's Saas Bina Sasuraal, there is a lot going on in her mind. We caught up with actress to find out what has been occupying her thoughts.
Buying a new fridge One thing that has been going in my mind is getting a new refrigerator. (Laughs) My old one stopped working last night so whenever I have a day off, I will go and shop for a new one. Deepika and Chitranganda's wardrobe malfunction At a recent Desi Boyz event, Chitrangda Singh and Deepika Padukone were lifted by John Abraham and Akshay Kumar which exposed their intimate parts. Obviously, the two actress didn't plan it. No decent girl would plan such a thing. But it's disgusting to see how paparazzi clicked their pictures and now they are all over with story. Keenan and Ruben The incident of Keenan Santos and Ruben Fernandes has been going in my mind for sometime now. I feel so bad for their family. I feel very sad that such things are happening in this city. I worry about mine and others safety. Meeting parents I live alone here in Mumbai. So my friends are my family and I end it by catching up with them almost everyday. But I miss my parents. They live in Delhi. I hope to have some days off so I could go and see them. Bhupen Hazarika Off late, so many gems have left us. It's really sad that legends like Shammi Kapoor, Jagjit Singh and Bhupen Hazrika are no more with us. Holidays I need holidays badly. I have been shooting continuously and haven't been able to have much time for myself. The only time I am free is during the night. I just wish to go on holidays or at least, have a change of place so I could feel fresh. —

The year ahead
If your birthday is November 13...
Born on the 13th are you very focused on your partners. Depending on your personality you may find this unnerving or entirely flattering. You have a strong need to control your partner although this won't be immediately apparent and you may not ever admit to this. Your love and commitment can be so intense that it eclipses fun and makes loving a very nice experience. You'll be very determined, overcome all difficulties and make changes to lead to increased earnings. You'll be soft towards your loved one and ask many questions to find out his or her sincerity; be careful as he or she could act in the same way. You may begin the year starting with a feeling of 'giving and giving,' big time, especially to solve, save and 'serve up' comfort and convenience for Virgo, Capricorn, Sagittarius, other Taurus or Libra. Personal issues may heat up communications between members. Fun gatherings and social exposure 'as a family' is likely. Whether you're looking to build your career right where you are transforming your role for the better or looking to move onward and upward, the stars are helpful. Don't overlook an unorthodox financial rearrangement. Try to get over your shyness. Step forward and speak to that special someone that you have not seen for far too long. If a job is worth doing go ahead. Be careful of getting intimate with someone of a dubious reputation which could sully your image. In other words, you have to remain very cautious on the social front during this time frame. At your work place you will have to be calm and patient. Do not enter into any discussion, which can lead to hot arguments, which may be just trivial and of no consequence. It will be better to concentrate on work or take up some neglected files waiting for action and have remained untouched for no specific reason. Mood: Excited and slightly 'over the top' Compatible signs: Scorpio, Cancer. Lucky colours: Maroon, Olive. Lucky days: Sunday and Monday. Lucky numbers: 2, 8, 11, 14, 21 Lucky flower: Sweet-William. Lucky gem: Lapis
