First steps
Bollywood with all its dreams and aspirations is one unforgiving place as well — one thing that it sure doesn't accept is excuses for failure or what the industry blatantly calls being a 'flop'. More lessons follow as you step into this strange-yet-dearly loved place called Bollywood!
Actor Yami Gautam can account for it today. The signatures on the contract for her first Bollywood project Vicky Donor, directed by Sujit Sarcar, has already brought in new learning about Tinselville and about herself as well. "Things have taken a new turn in my life and I have begun to understand as well as enjoy them," she smiles. So, it's the new project that we will be talking about. Yami laughs; can't wait to begin telling us about Vicky Donor. "The movie is being directed by Sujit Sarcar. It is a Delhi-based love story, which has a subtle message about sperm donation. I play a Bengali girl, opposite Ayushman Khurana," she shares without interruption. On how she bagged the role, Yami doesn't have a fancy story. "The casting director called me after seeing the Fair & Lovely advertisement; I auditioned for the role and got it," adds Yami. For most television actors it is not easy to come out of the security mould and try something different in movies. "I have always treated my work as a thorough professional. Whether I am giving a shot for television or movie, I always give my best," says Yami, who starred in TV serial Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam. She did no TV serial after that, shifting her focus to commercials. "Luckily, I got the Fair & Lovely advertisement, which brought in the noticeability factor," she says while talking about professionalism in movies as compared to TV. "Movies are larger than life; scenes don't change at the last minute though there is lot of improvisation.” Things are bright and cheerful, but this pretty woman assures it hasn't changed her as a person. "I could smell the competition in Bollywood the minute I took up my first project. I would definitely want to compete, but in my own way. Hardwork is still the driving force for me and of course my father, who taught me the lesson of professionalism long time back," she looks at her father Mukesh Gautam for approval. A nod brings a smile to her face!

Going Ga-ga over the Lady
Lady Gaga may be known for her outrageous attires, but how about a cocktail sari for the flamboyant singer? And hand-woven kurta-pyjama for members of rock band Metallica? That's how Indian designers want to dress up these international pop icons.
Gaga is a news-maker, thanks to her outfits. Be it appearing in a beef bikini on the cover of Japan's Men's Vogue magazine or her bubble dress, her choice of clothes has always attracted media attention. It seems while stepping out, she is not concerned whether her clothes take her fashion forward. But Indian designers have a much more somber and toned down look for her in their mind. Says Jattinn Kochhar, "For Lady Gaga, I will go for something different from her usual gimmicky clothes. It will be a stunning cocktail sari with a bikini blouse. The fabrics will be georgette, in lilac hues, with Swarovski crystal work. The other option will be a feminine off-shoulder chiffon gown." After setting the stage afire abroad, Gaga is all set to rock the Indian capital when she performs at the finale of the Formula One after-party at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida Oct 30. The 25-year-old's dress drama is unlimited — Gaga created a furor with her see-through lingerie and her meat dress at the MTV Music Video awards. But Varija Bajaj is nonchalant and wants to dress her in Indo-Western fusion dresses, with some frills swirling around her. "I would like to enhance her personality by giving her same funky clothes like ankle-length ghagra-cum-skirt teamed up with a choli, with lots of junk jewellery, like anklet, heavy metal bangles," says Varija, adding the sari is also on her wish list. She adds, "And, of course, if she is in India, then it will be interesting to see her in a sari. I want her to be seen in a sari which will be draped differently, like a shorter sari with longer petticoats. The petticoats will have a lot of frills at the border." Designer Nida Mehmood has something different on her mind. She feels the 'Born this Way' hitmaker symbolises a larger than life image; so Nida's Tamasha collection, which she showcased at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion week, can jazz up her personality. But she doesn't rule out nine yards as well. "Her persona is not to be missed and she is never scared to speak her mind - neither in spirit nor in mood. I totally feel the garments from my current collection — the great Indian Bohemian Tamasha — would be apt for her." If Nida wants to design "flare tops, trousers, dresses and jumpsuits", she also wants to drape Gaga "with a sari over jeans with innovative headgear." Metallica, which is visiting India as part of Vladivar F1 Rocks Friday, are known for their glam rock style clothing. Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield and Robert Trujillo- members of the American heavy metal band are often seen in their signature black attire with heavy metal style fashion and accessories. Since the band is known for their hard-hitting soundtracks like Death Magnetic and My Apocalypse, designer Gaurav Jai says to personify the same character, leather will be a perfect choice. Says Gaurav, "There will only be leather and leather for them. Also, breaking their stereo-typed look, I will give them fresh-coloured shirts with metallic thread work." Smita Singh Rathore, of the label 11.11 by CellDSGN, is a diehard Metallica fan and she wants to see her pop icons in bling and sequins. "I am very excited about the Metallica visit as they have been my favourite since childhood. I would choose to give them the rock style look with a lot of bling and sequins," adds Smita. — IANS

In love?
Tarot card reader Munisha Khatwani predicted that Priyanka Chopra would get involved with a very powerful and princely actor sometime soon. We wonder who that would be!
Priyanka’s take
Priyanka is trying hard to hint at something. She states on twitter, “You know sometimes I just wonder what is with the haters, is it just gaining pleasure by hurting someone else? What do people get out of it? For all those haters out there, constantly spewing venom will only make sure some of it stays on you... see the beauty in people…everyone has it.” We wonder who she is talking about!
Close bond
Pop star-turned-actor Justin Timberlake has heaped praise on his former Mickey Mouse Club co-star Ryan Gosling saying he’s one of the finest young actors in Hollywood. The Cry Me a River hit maker grew up with Gosling and the two castmates even lived together as their TV careers took off and Timberlake is very proud of his pal’s success. “He’s unbelievable, I think one of the best actors of our generation... He is working a lot too. It’s hard to keep up with him,” he said on a TV show. Timberlake has very fond memories of hanging out with Gosling when the two pre-teens were on the verge of stardom. “His mother had to keep her job in Canada the second year that we were on the television show and my mom was his guardian for, like, six months, so we actually lived together. We were probably a little closer than the rest of the kids that were on the show just because we had to share a bathroom,” Timberlake said. “We used to do terrible things. We thought we were so cool when we were on the Mickey Mouse Club. Looking back on them, they weren’t as bad as I thought they were at the time. “We stole the golf cart and we drove into MGM Studios, which is totally illegal by the way... We went and got milkshakes,” he added.

Newest addition
Hollywood star Bruce Willis is all set to become a father for the fourth time, with his new wife Emma Heming. The 35-year-old designer and model is expecting their first child early next year - two years after her marriage to the 56-year-old actor. “The couple is overjoyed with this news and they look forward to welcoming this newest addition into their family,” Willis’ representatives said in a statement. It’s been 17 years since Willis’ last child was born. The Die Hard star has three daughters with ex-wife Demi Moore - Rumer, 23, Scout, 20, and Tallulah, 17. The Pulp Fiction actor married Heming in 2009, nine years after his divorce from Moore was finalised. Moore - who is also remarried to Two And A Half Men star Ashton Kutcher - and Willis continue to share a happy relationship with one another and are now good friends. Moore and Kutcher, 33, were among guests who watched Willis and Heming marry at his home on the private island of Parrot Cay, in the Turks and Caicos. The happy news, however, comes amid a time of turmoil for Moore after Kutcher allegedly cheated on her during a recent trip to San Diego in California.

Breaking stereotypes
Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas have broken free of the stereotypes that once pigeonholed Hispanic and Spanish actors in Hollywood, now enjoying such elevated star status that they can carry films with their voices alone. The sixth collaboration by the Mexican and Spaniard, Puss in Boots, premieres Friday across the US and marks the first time the pair have worked together on an animated film. “I arrived in this country without speaking the language. Doing animation was inconceivable,” the 51-year-old Banderas, a native of the southern Spanish city of Malaga, told in a joint interview with Hayek in Los Angeles, the city that served as a springboard to mega stardom for both actors after rocky starts. “I didn’t know anyone and they mocked me for wanting to do the most basic stuff as an artist,” the 45-year-old Hayek, who was born in the eastern Mexican state of Veracruz, said. She joked with Banderas that at least he came to Hollywood in the early 1990s as an “Almodovar boy”, referring to his roles in early films by acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodovar such as Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) and ¡Atame! (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!). “You arrived on a plate of nominations. You had a name. You were popular and people sought you out. I didn’t have anything,” said Hayek, who had to brush off numerous insulting comments from powerful figures in Hollywood before making her breakthrough. “They told me everything, things you can’t imagine. ‘You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve seen in my life. You have loads of talent. Too bad when you open your mouth you have to remind everyone watching the film of their housekeeper’,” an indignant Hayek said. Despite everything, the actress was determined to alter Hollywood’s perception of Latinos. “What they said motivated me ... ‘They’re wrong. I understand everyone has the right to their own ignorance but at the end of the day this will have to change’,” said Hayek, who a decade after making her Hollywood debut as a Mexican-American street-gang member in Mi vida loca (My Crazy Life) received an Oscar nomination for best actress for her role in the 2002 film Frida. Hayek said she found a “small opening” for herself in Hollywood through roles that highlighted her sex appeal. “They were never going to let me be an astronaut, but the sexy chick ... that’s what I went for and later it was easier to jump to other roles,” said Hayek, who became a sex symbol through her appearances in the 1990s films Desperado, which also starred Banderas; From Dusk till Dawn; and Wild Wild West. Banderas, meanwhile, was introduced to American audiences in the 1991 documentary film Madonna: Truth or Dare, in which the singer described him as a “Latin lover” she wanted to seduce. A year later, he had a starring role in The Mambo Kings, playing a Cuban immigrant who tries to achieve the American Dream through music. “I remember Hispanics told me that if I was going to stay in Hollywood I had to be the bad guy. The studios couldn’t conceive of the possibility of creating Hispanic heroes and having an Anglo as the villain,” the actor, who starred in the blockbuster 1998 film The Mask of Zorro, said. In that film, “the bad guy was a blonde with long hair and the Latins were the heroes. So progress has been made”, Banderas said. Banderas noted that since coming to Hollywood he has had roles in drama films like Philadelphia, in which he played “Tom Hanks’ boyfriend”, the vampire movie Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, action films like Assassins and the sci-fi family movie Spy Kids. Nevertheless, the Spanish actor said many people continue to see him as the “Latin lover”, adding that the “stereotype precedes you and it’s almost impossible to get rid of it”. In Puss in Boots, Banderas will revisit the cat-swordsman character he voiced in Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third. Puss was so successful a that DreamWorks studio decided to make the feline the central figure in its latest computer-animated film. In that spin-off prequel to the Shrek series, Puss (Banderas) is a hero who sets off on a journey withsidekicks Humpty Dumpty and Kitty Softpaws (Hayek) to save the world — IANS
Madonna’s bustier auctioned for £ 45,000
Queen of Pop Madonna’s iconic black bustier that she wore on her Who’s That Girl tour in 1987 has sold at an auction for 45,000 pounds. The custom-made piece, created by Los Angeles-based store Trashy Lingerie, was worn with fishnet tights by the 53-year-old singer during her 1987 Who’s That Girl tour, and went under the hammer in China. Previously displayed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio and The Frederick’s of Hollywood Museum in Los Angeles, the garment was sold by Beverly Hills-based auctioneers Julien’s Auctions at the Ponte resort in Macau, China, alongside 23 other pieces of Madonna memorabilia. Among the other items on sale were a signed copy of the star’s risque 1992 ‘Sex’ book and a recording of the song Simon Says alongside her band Emmy and the Emmy’s, with the auction drawing in a total of over 62,000 pounds. “When you’re buying these things, you’re buying a memory,” said Darren Julien, owner of Julien’s Auctions.
