‘Kidnappers’ make ransom calls to sho!
Mistook cop as infant’s father
Tribune News Service

Panchkula, October 24
In the ‘fake’ kidnapping of 10-month-old Nishant, fraudsters Ravi and Pradeep, who were arrested by the Panchkula police, had spoken to Mansa Devi police station SHO Daleep Kumar on 10 occasions assuming that the SHO was Nishant’s father. These conversations had actually helped the police in tracking down the IEMI number of kidnappers’ phone, which finally led to their arrest.

The accused had made the first call to Nishant’s maternal uncle Ashu who further gave the SHO’s number to the kidnappers saying it was Nishant’s father number. Thereafter, fraudsters called up the SHO demanding ransom amount of Rs 10 lakh.

The two fraudsters had hatched a conspiracy after reading an advertisement in a newspaper announcing a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nishant, the 10-month-old infant who had been missing since September 29. The advertisement was published on October 12.

Ravi and Pradeep hit upon the plan to demand Rs 10 lakh after seeing the advertisement. The police said the accused thought that if the family was willing to pay Rs 50,000, then it possibly could afford to pay Rs 10 lakh. The duo then obtained a SIM on the basis of fake documents from Barwala.

Pinjore residents Anil and his wife Sarita lost their son Nishant during their visit to the Mata Mansa Devi Temple when Sarita had handed over her son to a couple standing in a queue saying she needed to drink water. She took the couple’s contact number, but it turned out to be fake. On return, Sarita was shocked to find that the couple had fled with her baby.
