rajiv gandhi trophy Tribune News Service
Panchkula, October 9 After winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first and battered the Indian bowling with shots all over the ground. Sandesh Yadav for India struck early and removed opener Moniruzzaman on the second ball of the inning. Ashish Rai picked up another wicket in the fourth over to give the Indian team a good start, as Bangladesh struggled at 13 for 2 in 4 overs. Thereafter, Rafsan Al Mahmud took charge and showed some aggression with the bat. He partnered with Littin Kumar Das and then Shah Arfan Shakil to put up two 50-run partnerships. Rafsan hit 88 runs, frustrating the Indian team with his stroke play. He did not take any chances in his innings and dealt mostly in singles and doubles. Ashish finally removed him in the 34th over when he had Rafsan mistime a pull to mid-on. Littin Kumar Das contributed 29 runs Arfan scored 40 runs. Bangladesh put up 206 runs in their 35 overs for the loss of nine wickets. For India, Ashish Rai was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 34 runs. Chasing a required run rate of almost 6 runs per over was never easy for the Indian team. The task was made harder by the lackluster performance of the Indian batsmen. Nur Alam Bappy struck in his first over by removing Indian skipper Sumit Hooda cheaply. This set the tune for the rest of the Indian innings. Opener Ajay Duhan was the only ray of hope for the Indian team even as wickets kept falling at the other end. Ajay Duhan scored 38 runs off 41 deliveries. He failed to get any support from his teammates. Once Ajay fell, it did not take much time for the rest of the team to crumble. Sandesh Yadav held on to his wicket for a little time, but it only delayed the inevitable. Sandesh along with Nitish Arvind put up a fight for 10 overs before Nitish was caught out in the last over. The Indian team was bowled out for 112 runs, falling short by 94 runs. For Bangladesh, Siratun Adnan walked off with the best bowling card of three for 19. Moyunuddin Mamun, Shahelin Shad and Sajid Akhtar picked up two wickets each. Brief scores: Bangladesh: 206 for 9 in 35 overs (Rafsan Al Mahmud 88, Shah Arfan Shakul 40, Littin Kumar Das 29; Ashish Rai 3 for 34, Amit Choudhary 1 for 29). The Governor of Haryana, Jagannath Pahadia, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes.
