Student run over by train near school in Ambala
Ambala, September 27 According to sources, Ankush had been sent by Shashi Kiran, maths teacher, to fetch ‘matthis’ from a bakery for her. He along with his classmate Gurpreet went to fetch ‘matthis’. While they were on their way back Ankush was run over by a speeding train. He died instantaneously due to serious injuries. The irate parents reached the school as they got to know about the death of Ankush. His father Shiv Kumar blamed that it was negligence on part of the teacher to send his son out of school premises. However, the teacher denied that she had sent Ankush to fetch ‘matthis’ for her. The railway police registered a case on the complaint of his father Shiv Kumar against teacher Shashi Kiran and school authorities and further investigations were on. The Deputy Superintendent of Police GRP, Ishwar Chand, said that a case had been registered in this connection and the body was sent to the Civil Hospital, Ambala City, for a post-mortem examination. |

Customer loses Rs 1 lakh at bank
Ambala, September 27 He left the bag containing the money on the counter and went to the bank guard to ask for a pen and on when he returned after few seconds he found the bag containing cash missing. He raised an alarm and enquired from Purshottam Lal, the clerk at the counter, who refused to say anything about the bag lying on the counter. The bank informed the police. Despite all efforts, the bag containing money could not be traced inside the bank premises. Due to the ongoing construction in the bank, the CCTV installed in the bank was also removed and so the police failed to get the CCTV footage. |

Institute told to refund fee
Chandigarh September 27 The district forum comprising president Lakshman Sharma and members Madhu Mutneja and Jaswinder Singh Sidhu also directed the institute to pay Rs 5,000 as the cost of litigation. The complainant, Nitish Arora, said he took admission in the institute in BTech (IT) stream and deposited a sum of Rs 45,980. Later, he got admission to MM Engineering College, Mullana in BTech (computer science and engineering) and thereafter immediately approached the opposite party, along with his father, to seek refund of the entire fee deposited with the college. He alleged that the opposite party not only refused to refund the fee, but also used abusive language which was uncalled for. He alleged that the opposite party had not only violated the guidelines of AICTE, but also spoke highly of his political connections. |

Selection of teachers stayed
Chandigarh, September 27 The stay orders by the Bench headed by Justice Permod Kohli came during the hearing of a petition filed by Varun Malik. The High Court also issued notice to the varsity authorities to respond to the contentions raised by the petitioner. Malik had alleged that the university had issued an advertisement for specialised posts for law faculty in the department of laws as well in the University Institute of Legal Studies. But instead of considering candidates with specialisation for these posts, the varsity also considered candidates not having specialisation in the field. He added that the
entire selections process had been vitiated by arbitrariness. |

Chandigarh, September 27 All three accused were sent to one-day police remand. The three accused have been identified as Hanish, son of a Chandigarh policewoman constable, Harish and Ashwani. The three are students of class IX (sales and marketing course) of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 19, and one of the accused Kapil Khaira, alias Bobby is absconding. Kapil is also a class XII student in the same school. Harish and Ashwani are residents of Sector 30 and Hanish is a resident of police lines, Sector 26. The police said the accused were arrested after conducting raids at their residences. Inspector Janak Rana, SHO, Sector 19 police station, said the four had asked Class X student Shalender to beat up another student and when he refused, they beat him up. The murder took place when these four accused students were thrashing Shalender and he managed to summon his friend Pushkar who was passing by. Pushkar had intervened and he was stabbed several times in the chest and on his back during the brawl. Pushkar died during treatment in the hospital. However, Hanish claimed it was Kapil, who had stabbed Pushkar, and by the time they reached the spot, he had fled. The family members of deceased Pushkar said Shalender was known to their son because both the families were from Uttaranchal. The police said the weapon used in the crime was yet to be recovered. A case of murder was registered at the Sector 19 police station. |

Teenager killed in accident
Chandigarh, September 27 The victim, Rahul, was about to board the tractor when his foot slipped and he came under the rear wheels of the vehicle. He received severe head injury and died on the spot. The victim was a resident of Colony no. 4. His father is a labourer. The driver of the tractor, Bhog Raj, has been arrested in a case of causing death due to negligence under Section 304 A of the IPC in the case registered at Sector 31 police staton. The police said he failed to apply the brakes of the vehicle resulting which the boy was killed. |

Chandigarh, September 27 The accused surrendered in the court today following which he was arrested. He is accused of beating up a police informer Harial Paul some months ago. Azad Singh had thrashed a police informer with blunt weapons and forced his wife to plead for mercy. A case was registered against him. |

While talking over phone, Manan expressed his happiness over his contribution towards the team’s first win.
