Encroachments a bane of this city
Ambala, September 4 While the district administration is making efforts to improve the situation, it seems that residents are not supporting them. The problem has been compounded by the haphazard parking of vehicles. Sameer Pal Srow, Deputy Commissioner, stated that they were making all efforts to improve the situation. A few days ago he had directed the committee staff to get roads in main bazaars and around the bus stand cleared of all encroachers. “The 14 feet wide road has been encroached upon by vendors,” said Surinder Juneja, a local businessman. “Encroachments in sabzi mandi have become a regular feature here,” he added. Srow said he had already appointed three officials as Duty Magistrate to maintain law and order and even issued directions to them for removing the encroachments. He claimed that the municipal corporation had demolished hundreds of structures in Ambala Cantt during an anti-encroachment drive last month. |

No end to cattle menace in Ambala
Ambala, September 4 A number of complaints have been made, but the municipal corporation officials have unheeded all of them. Cattle often cause traffic jams at busy intersections of Sadar Bazar, Mahesh Nagar Chowk, Gita Gopal Chowk and sabzi mandi. Some even fall victims to reckless driving. It is the duty of the MC officials to check the menace. The situation is no better in Cantonment area. A few days ago, an Armyman, Havildar Ved Pal, lost his life after his scooter hit a stray animal on the Durand road near Military Hospital in Cantonment area. Residents lamented that the officials concerned failed to take stern action against owners of the animals. Local MLA Anil Vij said there were more than 150 dairies in Ambala and cattle spread filth and dirt on roads besides causing accidents during night hours. He said all efforts of the district administration had failed to fructify. As milch cattle turn dry, dairy owners leave them on streets. A dairy expert claimed that the menace could be checked if dairy owners resorted to the practice of numbering their cattle. |
Windshield Experts penalised, told to pay relief to customer
Chandigarh, September 4 Amrendra Kumar Singh, a resident of Sector 32, filed a complaint before the forum comprising its president PD Goel and members Rajinder Singh Gill and Madanjit Kaur Sahota that he approached Windshield Experts, Sector 22, for replacement of a windshield glass (front glass), damaged in an accident, of his car Make Hyundai Santro. The shopkeeper replaced the glass under insurance with warranty of one year, for which the complainant paid Rs1,026. It was alleged that rubber strip, fixed round the glass, was not properly fitted and therefore, he approached the shopkeeper on June 2, 2011 but the rubber strip could not be replaced as it was not available at the service centre. It is further alleged that on June 6, the windshield glass developed a crack from the edges and the next day he approached the shopkeeper again for replacement of glass as well as rubber strip. According to the complainant, the crack had appeared either due to poor workmanship or due to installation of a defective piece of windshield glass. The service manager, however, refused to replace the glass submitting that the glass had developed a crack due to creation of vacuum inside the car, alleged Amrendara. Not replacing the windshield glass within the warranty period despite repeated requests by the complainant definitely amounted to gross deficiency in service and adopted unfair trade practice on the part of the shopkeeper, observed the forum disposing of the case exparte.
