Beauty by design

Today, beauty does not lie in the eyes of the beholder. It lies in the hands of a cosmetologist, says Homai Sagar

Once upon a time, the old saying, "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder," might have held true. Today, it would appear that beauty lies in the salon of the cosmetologist. Image-conscious people are flocking cosmetic surgery clinics for new noses, tummy tucks and larger breasts. Cosmetic counselling, also known as anti-ageing counselling, is becoming increasingly popular.`A0

Beauty specialists advise you on how to discover your skin type and ensure that you take care of its reactions to dryness, humidity, sunlight, cosmetics, perfumes and other factors.

Removal of tattoos is also keeping cosmetologists busy. The tattoo may involve a beauty spot or a cluster of them, the name of a loved one or complex designs anywhere on the face or body. These tattoos, though fascinating at first, often become objects of monotony and frustration. Many people with tattoos wish to have them removed. Other treatments include photo rejuvenation and different methods of hair transplantation.

Nose jobs top the list of the most popular cosmetic surgeries requested by people, with many asking for noses like famous Bollywood actors. The most sought-after facial treatment is Botox. The procedure is quick and easy, taking all of 10 to 15 minutes of treatment. Once upon a time, threading, waxing, shaving, plucking, or depilatories or abrasives like a pumice stone were used to remove unwanted facial hair or hair on other parts of the body.

However, together with all these treatments, adequate sleep and a balanced diet are vital for a healthy, glowing look. Lack of sleep can make anyone appear older than their age by contributing to the "owl effect" or dark circles around your eyes. Similarly, restricting your exposure to the sun helps keep the skin looking good. The fact remains that unless you watch your food intake, the troubles are likely to reappear. For those with a surfeit of junk food in their diets, the skin problems that were conquered`A0will soon be back.`A0— MF
