CBI tightens noose around ‘fake’ doctor
Initiates proceedings to declare him proclaimed offender

Tightening its noose around “fake” doctor Sandeep Sharma, owner of Panchkula based Shubham Hospital, the special CBI court yesterday initiated proceedings of declaring him a proclaimed offender (PO) in connection a multi-crore bank scam involving him and several bank officials.

CBI public prosecutor PK Dogra said recently Sharma had got an interim bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, but he failed to join the investigations. Now, the court has initiated proceedings against Sharma and the case has been listed for September 17.

The incident had stunned the tricity in January 2008 when the Panchkula police booked Sharma, a fake doctor, in a cheating case. Initially, Sharma was accused of illegally operating upon patients by holding free eye check-up camps. As the investigations proceeded, frauds committed by him while availing loans were exposed and amid high drama, the investigations were shifted to the state crime bureau. This finally led to Sharma's arrest. The CBI also registered two cases against Sharma in July 2008.

Following a complaint of the Panchkula Civil Surgeon, the Panchkula police had sealed Shubham Hospital in Sector 20 on January 30, 2008.

In her complaint, the civil surgeon alleged that Sandeep Sharma was running the hospital claiming that he was an ophthalmologist while he had no such degree with him.

Sources said that using fake documents, Sandeep Sharma took a loan of Rs 2 crore from Punjab National Bank, Sector 16, Chandigarh, Rs 1 crore from the Bank of India, Sector 16, Chandigarh, Rs 1 crore from the Punjab & Sind Bank, Rs 40 lakh from Oriental Bank, Mani Majra and Rs 1 crore from Corporation Bank, Chandigarh. The loan was allegedly taken using fake certificates and documents.

In February 2009, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against Sharma and some bank officials. In December 2009, a special CBI court had framed charges against Sharma and bank officials.

Nearly four months after the Berkeley carjacking incident, the Panchkula Police today filed a detailed charge sheet against six accused, including three BTech students of Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar.

The police had filed charge sheet against Anil Kumar, a resident of Kathura village (Sonipat), Sandeep Siwach, a resident of Budana village (Hisar), Pawan Kumar, a resident of village Naina Taitarpur (Sonipat), and three BTech students of Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, - Mohit Chauhan, a resident of Nunagali village in Muzaffarnagar district (UP), Navin Kundu, a resident of Butana (Sonipat) and Arvind, a resident of Jaisinghpura village (Karnal).

The accused were booked under Sections 392 (robbery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged document), 473 (possession of forged document), 216 (harbouring an offender) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

On April 23, two robbers had fled with an SX4 car from the Berkeley showroom in Phase II of the Industrial Area. They had come to take a test drive and then took off with the car after training a gun at the salesman, Umesh, who was accompanying them.

Umesh had told the police that they made him sit on the back seat of the car and covered his face with a sheet. They also took out the SIM card from his mobile and threatened him not to raise the alarm. Umesh stated that the accused dropped him at Namaste Chowk in Nilokheri near Karnal and fled away.

Later, the police registered an FIR and during investigation it recovered the car from the Panipat Police. The car had met with an accident and the accused had left the vehicle on the accident spot. Thereafter, on a tip off the police raided a house in Phagwara and arrested the accused.

DAV Public School, Sector-8 today defeated St John School, Sector-26 in the match of ongoing Inter-School Carrom Tournament for Boys (U-19).

The tournament is being held at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-35.

DAV School overcame the rivals by 3-0 Government Model Senior Secondary School; Sector-37 defeated Government Model Senior Secondary, Sector-47 by 2-1.

St Kabir School, Sector-26 defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School, Manimajra Housing Complex by 3-0 and Mount Carmel Sector 47 defeated Shri Aurobindo School, 3-0.

St. Joseph’s School, Sector-44 defeated Bhavan Vidhalaya by 2-1;DAVPS-8 defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-19 by 3-0; Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector -38(West) defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector -37 by 3-0 and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32 defeated Government Model High School, Manimajra by3-0.

Fencers of GMSSS-10 make a killing

Fencers of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, swept the ongoing inter-school Fencing Tournament for Boys (U-14) by winning all three — foil, épée and sabre — team events at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 10, here today.

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46, finished second in the foil event, while Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32, and Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 15, came third.

In the épée event, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40, secured the second spot, while Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra Housing Complex, finished third.

In the sabre event, Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 15, finished second, while Government Model Senior School, Sector 32, and Government Model Senior School, Sector 33, came third.

Saupin’s School, Sector 32, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46, finished second and third, respectively, in the event.

Government High School, Sector 25, finished first with 451 points in the ongoing Inter-School Yoga Competition for Boys (U-14) here today.

Government Model High School, Vikas Nagar, secured second position with 328 points, while Pt MLSD Public School, Sector 32, finished third with 324 pionts.

Amit Singh of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, defeated Ravinder of Government High School, Sector 7, to claim the top position in the 46-kg weight category of the ongoing Inter-School Squay Martial Art Championship for Boys (U-19) at Sports Complex, Sector 42, here today.

In the same event, Deepak of Government High School, Sector 38, and Sanjay Kumar of Government Model Senor Secondary School, Mani Majra Housing Complex, finished third.

In the below-50 kg category, Naveen Singh Rawat of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, secured the first place, while Pankaj of Government Model Senor Secondary School, Mani Majra Housing Complex, claimed the second place in the category.

Vishal of Government High School, Sector 38, and Parwej of Government Model High Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, finished third in the category.

In the boys’ (U-19) category, GMSSS-8 won the overall championship with 21 points, while Government High School, Sector 7, and GMSSS, Manimajra Housing Complex, finished second and third, respectively, with 9 points each.

Results: Below-54 kg: 1 Deepak (GHS-7), 2 Akshitpal (GMSSS-8), 3 Vishal Sharma (GMSSS-21) and Jatinder Singh (GMSSS-MHC); Below-58 kg: 1 Ganesh Cheetri (GMSSS-8), 2 Vaibhav (GMSSS-MHC), 3 Sheshraj (GMSSS-21) and Parbhjot Singh (GSSS-MMT).
