We are inquiring into the reason behind keeping the ammunition at her residence,” said a senior official of the team questioning Ghirra. Ghirra is said to have submitted the licences of both of the weapons found in her house, but these have to be verified, said the officer. Ghirra has reportedly told the UT Police that some of the cartridges were bought by her father-in-law from Singapore, while many of these belonged to her late husband, who was also Deputy Superintendent of the Police in Punjab. “We will also visit her residence and inquire about her family background and other issues related to the family,” the police added. In the court today, the defence lawyers did not oppose the production warrants sought by the Chandigarh police. The defence counsel claimed that the CBI had done a one-sided probe. Ghirra was in possession of licences of the weapons and income tax return papers, pertaining to the filing of tax on her jewellery since 2000, but the CBI did not consider these, claimed the defense council. Ghirra has also been remanded in judicial remand for 14 days for possessing liquor at her house beyond the permissible limit. |
