3 held in double murder case
Kharar, July 29 Over a year later the police said it had apprehended two of the suspects, identified as Shambu and Raj Kumar, in Bangala Basti, Morinda and a third - Bitoo - near the train tracks close to Bangala Basti, Kiratpur. All the three are said to be aged between 22 to 30 years. Mohali senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said during investigations into the case a CIA team led by Gurcharan Singh found the two scrap dealers had been murdered by four men. “The fourth suspect, Kala alias Bhundi, a resident of Kurali, is already in an Ambala jail in connection with some other criminal case. He was also questioned by the Kharar police after they took him into its custody on a production warrant”, he added. According to the police, the four suspects were engaged in collecting scrap from households and markets to sell to Anita and Sunny. One day they noticed a large amount of money kept at Anita’s home and decided to rob it the same night. They scaled the walls of the victims’ home and first strangulated Sunny and then his mother. The suspects then fled with some jewellery and cash that they distributed among themselves near Kurali. “This Bangala gang used to strike at houses and ‘deras’ situated away from the locality. These people are notorious criminals and are already several cases of robbery and theft have been filed against them in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. In the recent past they have committed crime near Kalka in Haryana, Nangal in Ropar district and in Una in Himachal”, the cops said. The police is continuing its investigations into the double murder case.

Two killed, 5 injured in accident
Ambala, July 29 According to eyewitnesses, a Canter driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a stationary auto-rickshaw. A motorcycle coming from the opposite direction was also hit. Surjit Kaur, a resident of Bichli Dhamoli village, and Dharam Singh, a resident of Ganeshpur village, who were travelling in the auto-rickshaw, died on the spot. The five injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Naraingarh, with the help of villagers. Sources said two of the injured, Sushil Kumar and Ami Chand, were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, while Rajinder Kaur and Balvinder Kaur were referred to the Sector-6 hospital in Panchkula. The fifth victim, Girdhara Singh, has been admitted to the Shahzadpur health centre. |

22-yr-old commits suicide
Ambala, July 29 According to the police, the victim, Ankur, was employed at a shop in Kabari Bazaar. The death came to light this evening when his mother Sunita Devi returned home after work and failed to get response to her repeated knocks at the door. The door of the room, on the second floor, was found locked from the inside. She then peeped through the window and saw her son’s body hanging from the ceiling of his room. She raised the alarm and neighbours broke open the door. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment, where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The Parao police has registered a case. |

Lalru, July 29 The child was playing in the ground of his relatives’ house when a buffalo hit him. He was taken to the PGI, Chandigarh, where he was declared brought dead. The police has initiated proceedings under Section 174, IPC. |
Kalka Gang rape case To record statements against fourth accused Rajinder Nagarkoti Tribune News Service
Panchkula, July 29 The victim and her parents had given statement against the three accused, who were awarded 10 years imprisonment but were not coming forward to record their statements against the fourth accused. The police had recently nabbed the fourth accused, Sushil Kumar, alias Diwan, and his trial was running separately. During the trial, the three key witnesses - Nand Lal, Sunil Goyal and Kaka Ram - had turned hostile and did not identify the accused. Sources said before the arrest of fourth accused Sushil Kumar, the victim got married. After that the victim and her parents stopped co-operating in the investigation as they felt it would disrupt her married life. Sources added that the victim’s family had not disclosed about the gang rape to her husband and in-laws. Sources said now the victim fears that if she comes to court for the identification of the fourth accused, her husband and in-laws would come to know about the heinous act. Notably, the court had already awarded 10-year imprisonment to three accused - Vikram Chaudhary, Madan Yadav and Sumit - all residents of Uttar Pradesh. On January 9, 2010, night, the accused allegedly abducted the victim a few meters from the Kalka police post and allegedly gangraped her in a car. The police spotted the car when it was crossing the Parwanoo barrier. Accompanied by a team of the Himachal Police, the Panchkula police finally nabbed the accused when their car met with an accident near Dharampur.

Nari Niketan case: DSP deposes in court
Chandigarh, July 29 Pannu informed the court that he had lodged an FIR in the case and had also conducted an investigation. The court has now deferred the hearing for cross-examination of Pannu. The victim had already identified the accused - Bhupinder Singh, Jamuna Parsad, Kamla, Vijender and Maya of Nari Niketan and Naresh, Bhagwandeep, Davinder and Chotu of Ashreya - in the Chandigarh district court. The victim was raped during her stay in Nari Niketan. Later, she was shifted to Aasherya, a home for mentally challenged persons in Sector 47. She was found pregnant on May 16, 2009, by Aasherya authorities. The UT Administration had moved HC for termination of her pregnancy on medical grounds. The HC had ordered to terminate the pregnancy, but was later stayed by the Supreme Court. The victim gave the birth to a baby in December 2009. In December 2009, DNA samples of the newborn had matched with those of an employee of Aashreya. Based on the CFSL report, the police had arrested Chhotu Ram, alias

Drug trafficking case: Israeli national, 2 others convicted
Chandigarh, July 29 Additional District and Session Judge Lalit Batra today convicted Israeli national Lior Avi Ben Moyal, his Czech accomplice Andreevi Jiri, and Kullu resident Narender Kumar in a drug peddling case. The trio was arrested on February 10, 2005, from plot No. 653 in Industrial Area, Phase I, by a team of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The contraband was estimated at Rs 15 to 20 crore in the international market. NCB counsel Kailash Chander said the accused were planning to send the contraband abroad by concealing it in furniture. He added that the quantum of sentence would be pronounced on Saturday. A few days after his arrest, Lior Avi Ben Moyal had managed to dodge NCB sleuths and fled from their custody. However, Rajneesh Sharma, a lawyer, nabbed him the same month with the help of some bystanders near Sector 25. Though the NCB had claimed to arrest Lior from the Industrial Area, his fiancée Lada Svobodova lodged an FIR at the Panipat police station in 2007 that he was kidnapped from Panipat in the 2005. It was stated in the FIR registered in Panipat that Ravikant Pawar, investigating officer of the NCB, had kidnapped Lior Avi Ben Moyal on February 9, 2005, from Panipat. However, after completing the investigation, the Panipat police had submitted an untraced report in the case. |

Two youths thrash teacher
Chandigarh, July 29 The incident took place after 2 pm when Verma left the school premises and was headed home. Two youths on a motorcycle approached him and allegedly started slapping him. He caught hold of one of them but he escaped before the police came. “I could not identify the boys. I am generally on duty in grounds to ward off the outsiders and they must have been scolded by me. We called the police but by the time we could hand over the guy to them, he fled. This issue has once again brought to fore the lack of security outside schools. Why would teachers bother to maintain discipline when our security is not ensured?” questioned Gandhi. 25-year-old girl killed in accident
Chandigarh, July 29 The victim, identified as Jaspreet Kaur, was employed in a private hospital. Her friend, Gurpreet Kaur, was riding pillion. The police has arrested the driver of the Maruti Zen Car (PB-65B-0058), identified as Pankaj Goel, in a case of causing death due to negligence under Section 304-A of the IPC. The accused is a resident of Naya Gaon and runs a factory. |

Class-X girl raped, 1 held
Chandigarh, July 29 The police has arrested one of the youths while his accomplice is absconding. The medical examination of the girl has confirmed rape. The girl, a class X student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Ram Darbar, was allegedly blackmailed by the youths who told her that they would circulate her obscene MMS. In her complaint, the girl told the police that the two youths, identified as Bhaskar and Gaurav, were her former seniors and called her outside the school. Both are adults and unemployed. The duo then threatened her and took her to the house of Gaurav where they raped her. They also recorded her in a video camera while being raped, she alleged. The police said both the accused were notorious and Gaurav had a criminal background. A case of rape has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. Bhaskar has been arrested. |
