Panchkula, April 30 According to information, SK Thukral was posted in Hisar as an Income Tax officer and had demanded Rs 25,000 as bribe from members of the Baba Dhall Educational Society on January 15, 2006. The society members informed the CBI, which later laid a trap and caught Thukral red-handed. In the final hearing held today, the court awarded six months imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on him. |

Implementation
of RTE Act
Panchkula, April 30 Civil Judge Panchkula Renu Rana while pronouncing orders of dismissal of application said the petitioners were espousing a larger public cause and were entitled to seek court intervention for implementation of the RTE provisions under Section 91 of the CPC, even though they had no personal grievance in the matter. In his application, the DC had stated that a PIL could only be made in the High Court or Supreme Court. He had further submitted that implementation of the RTE was a policy matter in which the courts could not interfere. He added that no loss was being caused to the petitioners in this case. However, the court rejected all these contentions and ruled that the case was maintainable and would be heard on merits. Simultaneously, it granted the petitioners a formal "leave of the Court" required under Section 91 of the Civil Procedure Code to agitate the matter before the Court of law. The court also extended the existing stay on admission to 25 per cent seats up to Class VII in Panchkula schools till May 12, when the case will come up for hearing on the issue of making all city schools and the DEO as defendant parties to the case. |

Fresh warrants against Aseemanand
Panchkula, April 30 The officials of the NIA today moved an application before the court stating that at present Swami Aseemanand was in judicial custody in Ajmer jail in connection with Ajmer blasts case. The investigating agency also produced documents in this regard. The local court had already granted NIA the permission to hold the court hearings of Aseemanand through video conferencing from Ambala jail. The court had also issued non-bailable warrants against three key suspects of Samjhauta blasts case, namely Ramchandra Kalsangra, alias Ramji, alias Vishnu Patel Sandeep, Dange, alias Parmanand, and Ashwini Chauhan, alias Ashok, alias Prince, alias Amit. |

Milkman gets 3-yr RI for abducting minor
Chandigarh, April 30 However, the court acquitted the accused in the case of rape under Section 376 of the IPC as the prosecution failed to prove charges of rape in the court. He has also been imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 by the court. The case dates back to December 16, 2009, when parents of the girl, who went missing from her residence, lodged a complaint with the police against the accused. The mobile number of Shamu was traced and he was arrested from Shimla and the girl was rescued after 45 days of her being kidnapped. The police slapped charges of rape and kidnapping on the accused. As per the prosecution case, the accused was a milk vendor and used to come to the victim’s home to supply milk. |

Migrant labourer commits suicide
Zirakpur, April 30 The police got information about the suicide from the hospital where he was admitted. The investigating officer said the postmortem would be conducted tomorrow after the arrival of the family members of the deceased. Inquest proceedings have been initiated. Man succumbs to injuries
Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Dyalpura, Zirakpur, succumbed to his injuries at the Command Hospital, Panchkula, today. The deceased was admitted in the GMCH-32, Chandigarh, after his motorcycle was hit by an unknown vehicle on the Zirakpur-Patiala road, near Jhuggian village. The investigating officer stated that the incident took place on April 27 at 5 am when Sukhdev Singh was returning home, after performing his duty, on his motorcycle when an unidentified vehicle rammed into his bike. A passer-by informed the police, which took him to the GMCH-32. He was later shifted to Command Hospital, Panchkula. The victim succumbed to his injuries during treatment today, the investigating officer added. The police official said a case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC had been registered and further investigations were on.
Goods worth
Rs 8 lakh stolen
Mohali: Goods worth Rs 8 lakh were stolen from a garment shop at Shahi Majra village here last night. Owner of the shop Balwinder Singh told the police that he had closed his shop around 9 pm yesterday. When he came in the morning to open his shop, he found the locks broken. On entering the building he saw that cloth in large quantity had been missing from his shop, besides, cash which was lying in a draw. The police has registered a case in this regard.
Body found
The police today recovered the body of a migrant labourer from Madanpur village here. According to the police, the victim used to ply a rickshaw to earn his livelihood. He also used to wash utensils at a dhaba in the village. The body has been sent to a civil hospital for post-mortem. |

One held with charas
Chandigarh, April 30 Constable Shashi Bhushan, pharmacist Vivek Sharma and home guard volunteer Dalbir Singh were on duty at ISBT-43 when they noticed the accused and rounded him on the basis of suspicion. The accused is a resident of Dhanali, Teh-Kumarsain, Shimla, and was arrested from Himachal Pradesh counter. A case under Section 20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Sector-36 Police Station. |

Auto drivers scuffle at ISBT-43
Chandigarh, April 30 The scuffle reportedly occurred over the issue of hiring of passengers. One person was injured and four auto drivers fled. The police has registered a case of criminal intimidation and causing hurt at the Sector-36 Police Station. The police said the altercation occurred between Rajinder Pande, a resident of Sector 56, and other auto drivers. Rajinder suffered injuries in the brawl. The accused have been identified as Surinder, Rahul, Lambu and Dinesh. All the drivers are absconding. |

Panchkula, April 30 Electing to bat first, Coaching Centre-19 team were bundled out for 138 runs in 39 overs. Lakshaya Rakhra 21 and Nimesh 20 were the main scorers. For CCA, Danish 3 for 17 and Ramandeep Yadav 2 for 35 were the main wicket takers. In reply, CCA team also lost three early wickets, but thereafter Aarif 47 played steadily and held one end. He found an able partner in Karan Brar, who scored 26. Both of them saw there team through in 32 overs with four wickets to spare.
