Another pilot with fake licence
New Delhi, April 20 According to Ashok Chand, DCP (crime), pilot Swarn Singh Talwar was held from his Gurgaon resident last night. "Talwar had procured Air Lines Transport Pilot (ALTP) Licence using forged marksheets with the help of Pradeep Tyagi, a pilot who was arrested earlier," said Chand. With the arrest of Talwar, the police has so far arrested seven pilots for procuring flying licences on forged marksheets while three DGCA officials have also been found involved in the scam. The crime branch of the Delhi police is investigating the case after a complaint filed by the DGCA that some of the pilots could have used forged marksheets to get their licences. According to information, Talwar completed his graduation in BCom from Rajasthan University, Jaipur, in 1999 and joined the NCC Air Wing and got NCC "C" certificate during graduation. In 1992 he joined Rajasthan Flying Club, Jaipur, and completed his 20 hours of flying in 1993 and after that joined Delhi Flying Club in 1993-94. He completed his 35 odd hours of flying from Delhi Flying School. In 1995 he went to Texas, USA for CPL (Commercial Pilot License). New Mayor holds office
of profit: Cong
New Delhi, April 20 In the election held at a special meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), 49-year-old Abbi, a first-time councillor from Mukherjee Nagar ward, defeated her Congress rival Savita Sharma by 88 votes. Abbi got 170 votes while Sharma secured 82. Eight votes were found invalid. Stormy scene was witnessed as soon as the election process started in the MCD House, with the Congress members raising slogans and coming into the Well the House. They objected to Abbi's candidature alleging that she was holding an office of profit as she was a DU professor and taking salary for it. Sloganeering went on for some time, prompting counter-slogans from the BJP councillors, but the Congress members later relented and allowed the election to go on. Leader of the MCD House Subhash Arya as well as outgoing mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney, who was the presiding officer, read out a letter issued by DU on July 30, 2007, after Abbi's election as a civic body member. According to the letter, DU allowed the professor to take up the responsibilities of a councillor on some conditions. The letter said it should not interfere with her academic responsibilities and that she would not "receive any remuneration/fees/salary from the MCD (this will not include sitting fee etc)". It said the university reserves the right to withdraw the permission if academic responsibilities are not carried out by her properly. After her election, Abbi said the office of Mayor is not an office of profit as she will not be getting salary and she can hold both the offices as she had taken permission from DU for working as councillor. "This is not a breach of law, this is not illegal. I know the law. DU post does not come under office of profit as the varsity is an autonomous institution," she said. |
CM firm on move to divide MCD
New Delhi, April 20 The sources said that she would not withdraw her decision as this was one of the promises she had made during the Assembly elections. Those who oppose the division are afraid of losing in the new set-up. According to the sources, she wanted 50 per cent reservation for women instead of 33 per cent. At present, there are 90 women councillors. If the proposal to divide the MCD goes through, there will be 208 councillors in the corporation. At present each Assembly constituency has four municipal wards. According to the proposed divided MCD, there will be six wards consisting of 40,000 people. The sources also said that there might be a special session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly for approval of the proposed MCD division once the Chief Minister got a green signal from the home ministry. BJP flays govt over issue of division
The BJP said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit wanted to divide the MCD by force due to fight for dominance between the Delhi government and the Congress. After the arbitrary division of the MCD, problems of the Capital will increase manifold. Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta said when the Congress was itself divided over the issue of the MCD division, what was the justification of doing so in haste? The government should call all party meeting on the issue and discuss in detail about it. The views of the common man and the experts should also be taken into account only then unanimous decision might be taken. In order to divert the attention of the people, the Chief Minister, who is facing the charges of failures and corruption from every corner, was insisting upon the MCD division, he added. |
DDA draw held on random numbers
New Delhi, April 20 "The case of one family has come up. The three siblings had applied for flats in Kondli Gharoli where there were a large number of flats on offer. They had applied under the scheduled caste category for which there is a reservation of 17.5 per cent," said a senior DDA official. "All three siblings are major and independent and can, therefore, be allotted flats under the scheme. A family unit consists of husband, wife and dependents. The draw was held on the basis of selection of random numbers," she said. The DDA said that it has drawn up a waiting list of applicants of its latest housing scheme. However, the housing agency said it will publish neither the names nor put the list out on its website as it does not want to give false hopes to people. The DDA had on April 18 unveiled names of 16,118 lucky applicants who will possess a flat under its 2010 housing scheme. The list was uploaded on its website and published in major newspapers after a draw of lots was held among 7.5 lakh applications in Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in Noida. Many people reached the DDA headquarters here yesterday in the hope of finding out a waiting list or the second list for the scheme. "We have already drawn up a waiting list. But we are not going to publish it as that will amount to giving false hopes to people. If there is any cancellation or vacancy, we will contact the next eligible applicant as per the waiting list," the DDA spokesperson said. |
