Phony pilots
Jaspal Bhatti

A guy manages to get a fake passport and a forged visa for a country of his dreams and somehow manages to get on the plane. The plane has bumpy take-off, and even during the flight, there is much turbulence. Suddenly there is an announcement, "Sorry to inform you, the license of our pilot has been found to be fake but we hope to land safely with the help of our able co-pilot." The guy with the forged visa blurts out, "For goodness sake, drop me back to India. I, too, have a fake passport."

This may be an exaggerated plot for a comedy skit but this can happen any time. A few days ago there was news about a pilot Parminder Kaur Gulati, who had made a bad landing of her plane at Goa. The investigations revealed that she had failed seven times while trying to get her pilot license, and had only got after submitting fake documents. Another pilot captain J. K. Verma was arrested recently for using forged marksheets to get his pilot’s license. These pilots with fake papers are, in fact, very spiritual persons. They seem to think that this world itself is illusion and everything around us is fake and so there’s nothing wrong in obtaining anything with fake documents.

Recently, I came across an advertisement for an airline which proudly claimed, "We fly with genuine pilots."
