Strike by Safai Karamcharis Umesh Dewan/TNS
Patiala, March 19 Coming out in support of the striking employees, the Docsfed president, Dr DC Sharma, said the government should concede to genuine demands of the municipal workers, especially the regularisation of services of the contractual employees. “After visiting several localities of Patiala, it came to light that heaps of garbage is lying scattered throughout the city for the past several days. The garbage not only emits foul smell, but is a potential health hazard. There is immense risk of the spread of diseases like gastroenteritis, cholera and jaundice,” said Dr Sharma. He further stated that in case the disease spread, it would be a serious problem for the health department to control the situation. Dr Sharma further stated that the Docsfed would contact the Civil Surgeons of the districts and would ask them to convey to the senior functionaries of the department of health and family welfare that in case strike continued, chances of breakout of an epidemic were very high. He opposed the trend of recruitments on contract basis in several departments. “The practice of engaging the Class-III and IV employees on contract basis or outsourcing the services is uncalled for,” he added. Dr Sharma stated that it was surprising that there were just 700 regular posts of safai karamcharis in the Patiala Municipal Corporation and out of these posts, as many as 200 posts were lying vacant at the moment. |
