Dharmendra young at 75

Manisha Rege catches up with Bollywood’s original He Man, who is all set to turn funny once
again with his latest film after completing a golden run on celluloid this year

BOllywood legend Dharmendra, who celebrated his 75th birthday, recently, says despite his age and accomplishments he is still young, yearning for more from life and trying to find out why a human being is never fulfilled and satisfied.

"Sab kuch paa kar bhi haasil-e-zindagi kuch bhi nahi. Sab kuch pa kar bhi yeh dil dhadakta hai us dil ke liye jo dhadakta tha kuch paane ke liye (Despite achieving everything in life, I have nothing. The heart still yearns for the days when it had desires)," the actor said here.

"Pyaar, mohabbat, duwayein apki seenchte hai jazbat ko mere, isiliye aaj bhi main jawan hoon. 75 saal ka jawan hoon (It is your love and well wishes that nurtures my heart and hence I’m still young, a 75-year-old youngster)," he said.

Dharmendra, who completes a golden run on celluloid this year, said he did not view the film industry as part of his profession, but as a part of his life.

"It is my beloved and I don’t want to part with it ever," said the actor, who was last seen in Apne and Life in a Metro, both released in 2007.

"It is the way of life. There is nothing like showbiz. It is because of the love, affection and good wishes of my fans that I am a young boy of 75," he added.

Popularly known as the ‘He Man’ of Bollywood owing to action films like Sholay and Dharam Veer, the actor is all set to do a funny turn now with his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol in Yamla Pagla Deewana releasing next month.

Dharmendra said he was born to spread love and happiness among his fans and added that he resolved to strengthen his relationship with them further in the coming years.

"Yeh mohabbat ka silsila chalta rahega (The love and affection will continue)," he said adding that it is human nature to be loved, liked
and admired.

Dharmendra considers himself lucky because he was bestowed with more than what he desired. "I had asked for a flat, a fiat and prayed that my posters continue to be put up across the country," he recalled.

According to son Sunny, despite having a successful career, his father has been a deeply rooted man, who has touched the lives of people who have come across him.

"He never showed off that he was being nice to people. He was just being himself. He has been rewarded by fans. Their love and affection cannot be bought or manipulated," the proud son said.

He said since childhood to his growing up years, despite living in a joint family, his father was always around either personally or on screen.

"I can’t see anything beyond him. My grandparents were a great influence during childhood and mother has been like an iron lady," Sunny said.
