Investigating Officer Karansher Singh told TNS, that the accused used a cyber café and sent a mail, which was later located through the IP address in the mail. “However, we reached dead end of investigations after the cyber café from where the mail was sent showed that he had no record of the user who mailed on November 30”, he said. “The café owner had accepted no id proof from the accused but had just written the address of the accused, which was later found to be incorrect”, Singh said. “However the accused later sent messages using a sim card registered with an Internet site”, he added. Unattended road barricades pose risk to commuters
Patiala, December 15 During recent the traffic police have been putting up ‘nakas’ at various locations and using the barricades to divert traffic and slow down movement of vehicles. The barricades are lying unattended near Fountain Chowk, Leela Bhawan, Sirhind Road, Rajpura Road, Shera Wala Gate and Sangrur Road, among other places. Police officials deputed at one such ‘naka’ said due to staff shortage they had to immediately move from one place to another and were thus unable to remove the barricades. “We also don’t have enough people to load these iron grills in a vehicle. Therefore we usually take them away only when we have to shift them to a new place”, one of them added. Commuters rued the barricades were an unnecessary hassle, leading to congestion of vehicular traffic. “In the morning and afternoon there is chaos on the streets as everyone has to move in a single lane. The other lane is not used as the police have set up ‘nakas’, which are not needed there”, said Sunpreet Singh Sidhu, a lawyer. A motorist, who had a narrow escape on Sirhind Road after he failed to notice a barrier being set up by the cops at midnight, said he could all have lost his life in an accident. “The ‘naka’ was set up on the main road and there was nothing to mark it”, he added. Patiala traffic police in charge HS Badungar said: “The barricades that we put up are always removed after the duty hours are over as we know they can result in accidents. However, sometimes other police stations also block roads through barriers and we’ve no role there”. — TNS |

District and Sessions Judge PL Ahuja on October 23, had raised doubts over the solemnisation of marriages of runaway couples at the temple. He had directed SP Maneesh Chaudhary to conduct an inquiry and inspect the records of the temple as well. The police report mentioned that the temple priest had been registering marriage for the past many years and there was nothing illegal about it. The matter had surfaced during the hearing of the protection plea filed by a couple. The judge had dismissed the protection plea of Kalka resident Vijay and Pinjore resident Aarti as they had failed to inform the court about their castes, age and date of marriage. Ahuja in his order had questioned the temple on issuing a marriage certificate without even caring to know about the age and caste of the bride and the groom after the couple in their petition had stated that they had tied the nuptial knot on October 13 at the Shiv Temple at Rally village.
