Rape: Husband held, 2 others booked
Dera Bassi, December 7 The couple was undergoing a stressful relationship since the time of their marriage. The victim had alleged in her complaint that she was repeatedly raped by Kala and Jasbeer Singh, both residents of Bagrian district, Sangrur, with the consent of her husband, for a long time. She informed the police that she was taken to Shimla by the accused and was raped for several months. She alleged that she was threatened by the accused for keeping this matter secret. The police has booked Randheer Singh, Kala and Jasbeer Singh under Sections 498-A, 376, 506, 368, 328, 376 and 120-B of the IPC. Bassi Pathana: Two motorcyclists died in a head-on collision of their motorcycles on the Bassi Pathana-Khamano road near Bhakra main canal bridge today. A schoolboy was also seriously injured in the accident. While one of the motorcyclists, identified as Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Giljian Mohalla, Bassi Pathana, died on the spot, another victim, identified as Charanjit Singh, a resident of nearby Mustafabad village, died in the local civil hospital. According to the DSP, Gurmeet Singh was returning home with his child from Navodya Vidalya on his motorcycle. As he reached near the bridge he had a head-on collision with the motorcycle of Charanjit Singh, who was returning to his village from Bassi Pathana. Both the motorcyclists and the child were seriously injured. A passer-by informed the police about the accident. While Gurmeet Singh died on the spot, Charanjit Singh and the child were taken to the civil hospital. After some time Charanjit Singh also breathed his last. The child was still recovering from injuries. The bodies were handed over to the relatives after the postmortem. The police has registered a case. Punjabi singer’s briefcase stolen
Zirakpur: Unidentified miscreants took away a briefcase of a Punjabi singer by breaking a windowpane of an SUV parked outside his office on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway here this afternoon. In his complaint to the police, Jaipal Sahota stated that he had parked his car outside his office around 12 pm. When he came out around 1 pm, he found the rear side windowpane of his car was broken and the briefcase, containing official documents, house registry, cheques and ATM cards, was missing. Fatehgarh Sahib: The police today claimed to have recovered a stolen truck with stolen scrap worth Rs 13 lakh from steel town Mandi Gobindgarh. Mandi Gobindgarh SHO Bikramjeet Brar said the truck was driven away by its cleaner Ujwal,, a resident of Assam. The accused was intervened near a police post on the Delhi-Rajpura road and was arrested by a special team of the police especially constituted to arrest him. A case in this connection has been registered against the accused at the Mandi Gobindgarh police station and further investigation is on. |

Panchkula, December 7 According to sources, the children in their statement confirmed that Thapa used to call them one by one in his room and touched their private body parts. They told the police that they had informed their parents about this who had further complained to the principal of Army School, Chandimandir. The principal, after conducting the inquiry, had filed a complaint to the Chandimandir police for registering a case against Thapa under Section 354 of the IPC. However, Thapa had said false allegations were being levelled against him as he had refused to teach the ward of one of the teachers after school hours. Superintendent of Police Maneesh Chaudhary said they were investigating the case. However, he refused to divulge the details stating that this could hamper the investigation. |

Theft at bank: Cops zeroing in on suspect
Chandigarh, December 7 The police suspects that the person, who entered just two minutes before the other three suspects, made a transaction at the bank. “After verifying the CCTV clippings, we have found that the first person suspected entered the bank at 12.56 pm while the other three came in at 12.58 pm. The first also made a transaction at the bank,” said Jaswinder Singh, SHO of the Sector 17 police station. Meanwhile, another employee of SIPL, Manjit Singh, who was present at the time of the incident, said he, along with Jaspal Singh, was counting the cash when the bag was lifted. “Jaspal placed the bag near him on the floor. I told him to be careful,” said Manjit, adding that they noticed four persons sitting on chairs behind them. “After some time, two of them came to us and stood near us. After the bag went missing, we first thought that a staffer of another company, who was there to deposit money, had played a prank,” said Manjit. |

Two bookies arrested
Zirakpur, December 7 The accused have been identified as Gobind Kumar Ahuja, a resident of Sant Kirpal Singh Nagar, Pabhat village, and Naresh Kumar of Badal Colony, Zirakpur. The police team raided a house and arrested them and recovered two mobile sets and a note book from the bookies. The police official stated that during interrogation it was found that the culprits had links with Haryana-based bookies and were betting in favour of India’s victory. A case has been registered. |

Man killed while boarding bus
Panchkula: Jatinder Pal, a resident of Raipur Rani, was run over by a bus at Trilokpur Chowk this morning. He died on the spot as his head was crushed under the rear tyres of the bus.
According to information, Jatinder was boarding a moving bus to go to his office, an automobile company located outside the town. However, his foot slipped and he fell in front of the rear tyres, which resulted in his death. A case of negligent driving has been registered against the bus driver in the Raipur Rani police station. Notably, such incidents have occurred earlier as well as the drivers hardly stop at the bus stop. The passengers were being forced to board the moving buses.

Chandigarh, December 7 From Army Red side, J Kujur scored two field goals in the seventh and 27th minutes. Hav Madhik scored a field goal giving 3-0 lead to his team in the 40th minute. Subedar Ignace Tirkey also scored a field goal in the 45th minute. Kiro of Indian Navy scored the only goal through penalty corner in the 50th minute to reduce the margin by one goal. Ekka of Army Red scored the 5th goal in the 64th minute through penalty corner. The second match was played between Army Green and Indian Air Force. Air Force defeated Army Green by 4 - 2 in penalty shoot out. Army Green was leading by 1-0 at half time by the penalty corner goal scored by Poovanna in the 25th minutes. Air Force replied back in the second half in the 39th minutes by a penalty corner conversion by SS Yadav. The match went on to extra time and ended in penalty shoot out. |

Kuldip gets gold for leadership
Chandigarh, December 7 PK Sharma, D.P.I. (schools), awarded the winners on the occasion. The programme started with a unique event named Monkeynastix followed by a difficult PT, synchronised through practice. Concentrating on physical fitness ethos among its children, the school organised such events. Students stamina and prowess were further endorsed by gymnastics (ground work) performed by boy students.
