She is the eternal dream girl of the Indian cinema, who ruled the silver screen through much of the 1970s and the 1980s. For millions of fans, there has never been a woman as perfect as Hema Malini. And though there’s not been any dearth of film offers for motherly roles, Hema has decided to switch to the small screen. She has started production of a sitcom titled Mitti Ki Banno for Colors. Based on folklore, with Chappra in Bihar as the backdrop, the serial will go on air in November. This is not Hema’s first brush with the small screen. Back in the nineties she had produced Noopur, a story about a Bharatnatayam dancer, who migrates to America, and a show titled Women of India depicting the life and times of some of the famous Indian women. She also made Aap Ki Saheli, another women-related show on health and beauty. But despite her increasing involvement in television, Hema is not neglecting her dance. She still performs selectively in India and abroad. — NF
