Car garage manager murdered
Ambala, October 29 According to information, Manoj, Santokh and one of their friends Mohsin were sitting in a room of the garage last night. They took the meal together. Later, there was a dispute over some issue between the security guard and the manger. The security guard attacked on the manager with a sharp rod. He also hit his head with a brick. He was rushed to the local civil hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Mohsin also sustained minor injuries after he, too, was attacked by the security guard. The security guard was so agitated that he sprinkled kerosene on a car parked in the garage and set it on fire. After the incident the security guard fled from there. The police nabbed him this morning. SP, Ambala, Shashank Anand and DSP (headquarters) also

Man bludgeons father to death
Ambala, October 29 According to sources, the verbal duel soon turned into blows. Mani Ram reportedly got hold of a bat and smashed it repeatedly on his father’s head, whose injuries proved fatal and he collapsed on the floor. Ram Rakha was rushed to Mulana Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and the body was handed over to the relatives after the postmortem examination. The Mulana police has registered a case and booked Mani Ram on charges of murder. |

Chandigarh, October 29 The court of civil judge Ranjiv Kumar issued notices to both Gandhi and Roy to file their replies by January 17, 2011, by appearing in person or through their counsels. The petitioner, a city-based lawyer Arvind Thakur, on Thursday filed a petition in the court seeking action against Rahul Gandhi for comparing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), a banned organisation, during campaigning in Bihar. About Arundhati Roy, who is already at the receiving end for her remarks over Kashmir, Thakur said she had said that Kashmir was not the integral part of India. Thakur said the court sought a reply from Arundhati Roy on her statement that terrorism, naxal and extremism are the best instruments to protect rights and on what ground she had said that Kashmir was not an integral part of India. The court had also directed her to explain her motive behind the statement. |

Sector-33 resident booked for forgery
Chandigarh, October 29 In charge of the crime branch Charanjit Singh Virk said a case of cheating and forgery had been registered against DS Kundu, a resident of Sector 33-C, on a complaint filed by KS Brar, a resident of Sector 36. The case was registered following directions of a local court yesterday. In his complaint, Brar alleged that he had bought the house from its original owner Iqbal Singh Bindra. The owner had leased the house to a bank for a year. Kundu, who was an employee of the bank, was living in a portion of the house. In order to take illegal possession of the house, Kundu allegedly prepared a forged lease deed showing that the house was leased to him. Virk said it was later established when the bank produced the original lease deed and an examination carried out by the document experts revealed that Kundu had signed the fake document. |

Thieves strike at school, decamp with cash, cheques
Panchkula, October 29 The incident came to light when the head of the managing committee of Sepient Public School, RC Thakur, visited the school premises today morning and found the door of the principal’s office open and things scattered all over the room. He immediately informed the cops who promptly arrived at the scene. A forensic team of the police later arrived and took samples of fingerprints from the room. A dog squad was also pressed into service. The police has registered a case of theft on the basis of a complaint filed by Thakur and has begun investigations. Thakur said the cash was kept in an almirah for making payments to a contractor engaged for constructing a building block in the school premises. He said the school peon and ‘chowkidar’ (watchman) were on leave and had not been present in the school premises since Wednesday. |

Thieves strike at 3 shops in Sec 17
Chandigarh, October 29 The CCTV footage of Studio Model Creators, a modelling agency in Sector 17, showed that three youths appearing to be in their twenties entered the shop at 2.53 am after breaking open the locks. They decamped with a camera, two lenses and a laptop worth around Rs 3 lakh. The trio then struck at Habib Unisex Salon on the second floor and took away Rs 18,000 breaking open the locks. Thereafter, they struck at R Square Institute of Medical Transcription, but did not steal anything. They left the premises at 4:17 am, the police said. The thefts came to light at around 7 am when a shopkeeper informed the owner of the shops about the broken locks. Sunil Bansal of Studio Model Creators said the police called forensic experts and a dog squad to examine the spot. In another incident, thieves struck at the residence of a retired lieutenant colonel in Sector 35 after scaling the rear boundary wall and decamped with three manhole covers and other household items. |

Panchkula, October 29 The victim has been identified as Mehar Singh of Panchkula. He was rushed to General Hospital, Sector 6, where he was declared dead on arrival. The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem. The Chandimandir police station has registered a case against the truck driver who fled away from the site of the incident. |

Panchkula, October 29 After winning the toss, GGMSSS-18 decided to bat first and scored 104 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted overs. Gagan (27 not out), Suman (17), and Mamta (14 runs) were the main scorers for their team. For GMSSS-56, Kajal scalped two wickets giving away 18 runs, while Rina took one for 21. In reply, GMSSS-56 were able to score only 85 runs, losing all wickets in the process. Sarita was the only player, who faced stiff bowling of GMSSS-18 with some courage and scored 27 runs. For GMSSS-18, Gagan was the pick of the bowlers, who scalped three wickets giving away only four runs. Mamta and Shallu were the other wicket takers, who scalped two wickets each giving away 13 and 17 runs,
espectively. In the second match of the day held to decide the third place, Sacred Heart School-26 defeated GMSSS-35 by 34 runs. After winning the toss, Sacred Heart School-26 opted to bat first and scored 90 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted

Saupin’s drub St Soldier’s 7-0
Panchkula, October 29 Sanjana of Saupin’s in Pool A brought cheers to her team by scoring three goals in the second, 25th and 27th minute of the game. Tanvi also led the team by scoring goals in the 18th and 20th minute. Hartanya and Tanya scored one goal each. Continuing its winning spree in the second match of the day, Saupin’s team again left the spectators awestruck by their brilliant score of 7-0, defeating Government Model High School, Mani Majra. Tanvi brought laurels by scoring five goals in the fourth, sixth, 12th, 15th and 16th minute of the game. Sanjana and Tanya scored two goals in the 10th and 18th minute, respectively, steering the team to a spectacular win. In the third match of the day, Mt Carmel defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra, by 3-1. Gurleen was the leading scorer with two goals in the 17th and 18th minute. In Pool B, Carmel Convent defeated St Soldier’s and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra, by 2-0 and 10-0, respectively. Sharika Kaul of Carmel Convent, the lead scorer, scored two goals against St Soldier’s and four brilliant goals against Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra, followed by Jotnoor and Medha with two goals each and Mrinalini and Natalia with one goal each. In the third match of Pool B, St Soldier’s defeated Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mani Majra, by 5-1. Updesh was the leading scorer with four goals in the 8th, 15th, 18th and 20th minute.
