Glam up!
Colourful bead jewellery, beautiful bajuband, glittering mehandi and sequins on nails — play with accessories to look your best this wedding season
Mona

Women just need an excuse to dress up and what could be better than a wedding? Shimmer and shine, reds and greens, kundan and diamonds are in. If you are sorted with your dress, shoes and bags, here is what you can do with accessories that can make you look haute!

Jewel deal

Kundan for the wedding day and a diamond chokar for the reception are just perfect for the bride. “It’s the combination of diamonds and pearls that looks pretty elegant,” says Anupama Sethi, jewellery designer from sector44. “Stylish and timeless vintage pieces make their own statement,” adds Sethi.

If it’s Kundan and diamonds that are in for the bride, for others it’s God’s plenty. “Colourful bead chains, or a brooch worn as a pendant and bangles are a hit. It’s the bride’s special day, so definitely she needs to wear every trinket meant for her, others can exercise some restraint. “Choose a statement neckpiece or go in for elaborate earrings,” suggest Ritu Kochhar, founder director, corporate, INIFD. “And, wear lots of colourful bangles to add to effect,” she avers. For designs, flowers are in.

With halters and sleeveless doing rounds, its armlets (bajuband) that are in vogue. “Everything sparkling and shiny is in. A glittering armlet, or a tikka or jhumar, with shimmery makeup will make you stand out in crowd,” says Simrita Singh, head of department, fashion design, NIIFT, Mohali.

Mehandi mart

Traditionally associated with weddings or any celebrations, mehandi has had a transformation from being just on palms to arms, shoulders or even navel. Support a glittering tattoo with your plain sari and backless blouse. Go in for patterns and colours matching with your dress.

Neo-nail art

Today nail paints have graduated from plains, shimmer or bold colours. You can go for sequins, pearls or kundan, whatever your heart desires. “We can give you nails matching with your lenhaga,” says Ramneet Kaur Narang from Tress Lounge-8. One can go in for readymade options or get one done exclusively to match with your dress. Starting from a range of Rs 500 nail art stays for two to three weeks.

Going global

Military-inspired look is what’s haute globally. “When it comes to military trend, one does not have to go over the top,” says Omar Benitez, fashion design consultant from Raffles Millennium International-25. “All one needs to do is to add just a touch of something that looks military inspired such as buttons, chains and structured collar. A hint of military green in jewellery will do the trick,” he avers.

On record
Weird queries and wild requests…radio jockeys have to deal with them all
Manpriya Khurana

RJ Ronni
RJ Ronni

They are perceived to speed talk, spread street-smart wisdom, clamour a lot, speak all the time, still say nothing at all, and yet make you feel good! In between give some information, throw a couple of news, bit of knowledge. Radio; the only place where people make requests like ‘this is for Tina, I’m sorry I thrashed you.’ Better still “this is dedicated to the girl in the park I used to play with 15 years ago.”

So what’s being requested, dedicated, discussed over various frequencies…know your RJs while they share some interesting trivia. Meanwhile, there are callers and there are problems galore. “We all have very common emotions, most of the times requests and queries of youngsters too are very regular and general like relationship, career. At times, for every tiny problem they come to us and at times, they stretch them; but then again that happens,” shares RJ Pankaj of Big FM, who hosts Yaaron Ki Geri. He adds, “Youngsters these days have a lot of options and despite having access to so many things, they have their own set of troubles.”

Observes RJ Ronni of Salaam Chandigarh, MY FM, fame, “What saddens me is that youth these days are quite influenced by all these reality shows. There was this girl who was being teased by two-three guys, eventually I found that one of them really liked this girl. Especially for girls, this is another common phenomenon.”

From the accepted to the atypical…. is it easy dealing with some really weird people? He adds, “We prefer not giving them our solutions and preaching wouldn’t help either. What’s important is to calm them down, listen to them, and be empathetic. We’ve been through the same phase ourselves so there’s a connect.”

Weird queries and wacky requests; there’s no dearth of the brigade either. Shares RJ SP, host, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, “There’s this really smart caller, whom I don’t want to reveal, but who every time calls by a new name; dedicates various songs to different girls.” Err…can they make out who it is? “Of course, because he’s done it so many times and even otherwise at times, off the record some share that it’s the same person.”

There’s an echo. Nods Ronni, “At times they make stories just for the sake of it. Like this person, who says ‘I’m married and my sister is creating misunderstanding now and blah blah.” He adds, “We recognise the voice and even otherwise can make out the genuineness of the call and the caller.”

Faking stories itself is one part of the problem. Chips in Pankaj, “A lot of youngsters come up with things like ‘I have a friend who likes my friend who in turn doesn’t know and thinks he likes me’…so at times, it’s a ‘comedy of errors’ kind of situation.”

Like we said, there’s this personal touch and there’s this publicity or maybe the best of both worlds in this medium. Shares Ronni, “They’ve never seen us and it’s only images that they have made of us that work in our favour; that’s the best part. They also know that we can never harm them, so there’s this connect.” There may or may not be a solution, at times, listening is what matters. As Pankaj sums up, “A radio jockey is the kind of person you want to share things with, at times just sharing makes you feel better. Any form of expression is invariably linked to emotions, that explains the connect.” Personal or public, trivial or overblown…whatever the issue, have you called your agony aunt yet?

Wedding, VIRTUAL style
Couples today are increasingly opting for wedding sites for sending invites, travel plans, gift registries, sharing love stories and much more
Mona

When Sonie, a doctor, and Anand Raj, a software engineer, decided to tie the knot, they wanted to involve their family and friends in each little preparation and event. With Sonie born and brought up in Canada, and, Anand in Lucknow and both working in California, they had a huge circle spread around different cities and countries. So, they chose a unique way to announce their wedding - a wedding site!

A personalised space on virtual world, modern couples are increasingly opting for 'wedding sites'. From invites to RSVP, travel plans, love stories, events, bless book and much more, these sites makes it handy for the couple to interact with their loved ones. The icing on the cake is that most sites offer it for free, but if you want more, you can add on latest features for a paltry price.

"We knew each other for a few years before we decided to get married. There were loads of stories and pictures to be shared, and a wedding site proved to be a great platform," shares Sonie, whose marriage ceremonies happened in Amritsar and Lucknow. Among the many features offered on the site firstphera.com, Sonie's favourite were sharing pictures and message board. Sharing pictures is not only easy on these sites, some portals also offer to print them for you. One can even get them on a t-shirt, mug or mouse pad.

Just like Sonie and Anand, Aarthi and her beau found it most convenient to connect with their circle through a wedding site. "Invity is very user-friendly. Soon after our engagement, I sat with my hubby and worked on it. It helped us make it convenient for our guests to reach the venue (in a paper card one can put a map, but on a site one can do it even better)," says Aarthi. "Most of all, it connected us to all our guests and made communication faster and easier. For anything concerned to our wedding, we knew we just needed to visit our site," she says. Aarthi also decided to be a premium member. "It cost us just $18," shares Aarthi, who recently moved from Singapore to India.

Married four months back, Saumya (23) and Balasubramani (28) are another happy couple making their wedding register presence in the virtual world. "Invity has done a pretty fantastic job for us," shares Bala, a businessman. "Not only did it make communication easy but also gave memories of a lifetime," he says. Though most of the basic features come free on a 'wedsite', Bala chose to customise his, "I paid around Rs 1,000, which is a measly sum." Ask him his favourite section of the site and he answers, "Bless book. It records wishes of all our loved ones, and also some of the inspiring advice rendered by our friends." Mighty pleased to have opted for a wedding site, he recommends it to everyone.

"The response to wedding sites is tremendous," says Peter Pandirah, director, Invity.com. "We started in 2008 and have already updated it twice," says Peter. "With customer response pouring in, we work to make it most recent," he adds.

Wedsite wonders

When we use the virtual world for working to shopping to connecting with friends, why leave the most significant event of one's life - wedding - out of it? And to make sure that we don't, a number of sites offer your own domain name (for example raniwedsraja.com) with packed features that cover almost everything related to a wedding.

With a number of formats available (in English as well as regional languages), one can customise the site that suits one's needs. Couples can introduce partners here; invite, narrate love stories, share customs, upload pictures or blog. In return, online visitors can RSVP, leave their messages or blessings in the bless book or fix up their itinerary. Amongst the many features that make a wedding convenient, it's the 'gift registry' that makes it easy for guests to pick up a gift from a list of things that the wedding couple would appreciate!

Masters of spices
Eraldo Colazzo and Naushad, chefs at Kava-26, offer lesser-known dishes from different parts of the world
Jasmine Singh

Naushad at Kava has served Bollywood celebrities Sridevi, Fardeen Khan and Hrithik Roshan.

It is far easier. Scout the menu, place an order and also insist on it being served 'fast'. Now this is where the real story begins. The story where comes in the master chef and his bag pack of spices, skills and techniques. Chef Eraldo Colazzo, executive chef of the newly-opened Kava sector-26 smiles at the mention of gunny bag that chefs carry. "The bag is like a world of gourmet delight and I can pull out surprises as many times as I open it," he says. Having travelled to the length and breadth of the country, 16 cities in total, Eraldo has laid the delectable platter for Chandigarh. "The city has grown as a food industry by leaps and bounds. The eating out culture is all-pervasive. The good thing about this city is that people are not stuck up on the menu, they love to experiment," he says.

Culinary art must go by the times, which are changing. In a few words his philosophy at the present time is detailing makes the difference. "Anyone can make food, the art lies in detailing. It works like mathematics, where one needs to balance the equation. If a dish offers taste, nutrition and is well garnished, it's must have," feels Eraldo.

Italy-born Eraldo has 30 years of experience. He has owned and worked in several top class restaurants around the world including Saudi Arabia, New Jersey and Italy. "The basics of cooking are more or less the same, what changes is the style as per the place. With time, chefs too have become more experimental. They bring in changes to suit the taste palette of people of a certain region. Their prerogative is that a dish should taste and look best, even if that demands bringing in changes in the original recipe." A good thing for sure! "Of course this also explains the fact that we are exploring food. At Kava also, we will introduce the lesser-known dishes from across the globe that we know people will appreciate. The revision of the menu will be done only after a few tasting sessions." His immediate plans are to add to the menu Arabic food, "Arabic food has as elaborate a menu as Punjabi cuisine. It's spicy, has a distinct flavour to it, which food lovers will enjoy."

He owes his success to the exciting dishes he invents, "A lot of trials are done before recipe of a dish is finalised." A quick look at his CV in front of him is enough to highlight his long list of accomplishments. Eraldo has served dignitaries at prominent positions. A few being Nelson Mandela, Bill Gates, Silvio Berlusconi, Lady Diana and Oscar winning Italian actress Sofia Loren. He is not the one to sit on them though! "Everybody likes food, if the chef puts in their heart and soul the food will taste good. At Kava, we serve with heart," he adds. It becomes apparent with the aroma of dishes being served to the guests in the restaurant.

Agrees the head chef, (Indian) Naushad at Kava, who has also served Bollywood celebrities Sridevi, Fardeen Khan and Hrithik Roshan. "It feels nice when people appreciate the food I cook, this also shows the passion in the people of the region," says Naushad, son of celebrity chef Gulam Rasul, the main chef for Nizam of Hyderabad. Secret behind this fan following? He shies, "I use a itar, maybe it's the fragrance that they like. Then again food is all about experimentation." We know it by now!

With regards

This is the day for elders who have gone through different stages, up's and downs of life and have always shared their experiences for the growth and development of the new generation, the senior citizens.

There couldn't have been an occasion better than Gandhi Jayanti to show reverence for our senior citizens. In keeping with tradition; Taj Chandigarh celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. An event that included an exclusive lunch for all senior citizens was organised at Dera, the Indian specialty restaurant. The chef's at Dera were excited and prepared sumptuous non-vegetarian and vegetarian delicacies for their special guests keeping in mind health, diet and taste of our senior citizens. Says Sandeep Makroo, sales manager, Taj Chandigarh, “The entire food and beverages department was anxiously waiting for their special guests for the occasion and serve them in their own special way. Some of the senior citizens who could make on their own to the hotel were picked up and dropped to their homes as well.”

A special discount as per the age of the senior citizen was extended at the Dera on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of the national hero, Mahatama Gandhi.

Light HOUSE
Lampshades that brighten up interiors are available in many shapes and materials
Jigyasa Kapoor Chimra

Ask any interior decorator what role does lighting play in designing a home and you'll be enlightened about many a things which one usually ignores while doing up a house or office premises. Besides brightening up the interiors, there are lights, which will make your tiny room look big, help you save cost, match your upholstery, change according to your mood, highlight the interiors or become showpieces themselves. And of all the lighting accessories available in the market, lampshades make for an ideal pick.

While there are several creative, artistic and exclusive lampshades available in the market, one can choose a wall, ceiling or simply place it in a corner of the room.

The most popular lampshades are the ones in ceramic and stained glass. Other than that, we have wooden, crochet, coconut wood, glass, leather, paper, cloth and even appliqué lampshades.

"Most popular and innovative lampshades today are the glass lampshades, which are made out of stained glass. Many designs and shapes are available in these. Other than that the latest range is of ceramic lamps that come in various shapes and sizes such as bell, swirl pleated, scalloped fringe etc," says Jagdip Singh from Paul Electric Co in Sector 18.

A round of this shop and we also see life-size chandelier lampshades, classy yet stylish. About chandeliers, he says, "Usually materials for chandelier lampshades include jacquard, chenille, velvet, paper, gingham etc. Very much in demand he says, these too come in every size.

Well, today lampshades are more than mere covers for lamps. They add to the decor of the room and to our wonder lampshades are available not only in different shapes but in a variety of colours and sizes.

At Fabindia-8 you can pick a variety of elegant lampshades. " From brass to steel to glass we have lampshades in conventional and traditional designs. Besides that we have a variety of shades available in varied hues," says an employee of Fabindia-8. From bottle green to mauve to orange you can pick any colour and the latest with them is jute and leather shades, silk shades and wonderful paper shades. Well talking about silk shades, we wonder whether these are really made of silk. "These shades have a full wire frame meaning that the top and bottom rings are connected with side wires over which a special fabric is fitted. The inner lining, usually white in colour, and an outer fabric covering are attached to the special fabric. These so-called silk shades are more expensive than the hardbacks but are more durable and can be washed using warm soapy water," she says.

While fabrics like linen, damasks, canvas, cotton can also be used in the making of shades, but what is attractive about them is that they are being made more decorative with adornments like pleating, rope trims and embroidery.

Says Jaswinder Kaur, an interior decorator from Prime Décor in Mohali, "Lights can make or mar a room. With people becoming more and more conscious about their home décor there is a variety of light accessories available in the market. But what's selling this season are the long lamps in contemporary designs."

At Evok, a home store, at Paras Down Town Square in Zirakpur, you'll find some silk shades and side lamps for your' home. In varied hues, shapes and sizes you can take your pick and also visualise how it looks in their dummy room set up.

Smitten by Ash

Hollywood star John Travolta seemed to be bowled over by Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai while he was in Mumbai for an award function last week. Not only did he request the organisers to seat him close to Aishwarya and her actor-husband Abhishek Bachchan, but he was quite insistent that the former beauty queen should present him the award, said a source.

Travolta, who featured in popular films Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Pulp Fiction was here with his daughter Ella for the GQ Man of the Year awards. As per his request, he was presented the GQ Legend of the Year award by Aishwarya on that night and was even seated with the actress and her husband. Travolta, who was dressed in a black formal dinner jacket with a bow tie, presented the Icon of the Year award to actor-producer Aamir Khan.

Work-wise

Ranbir Kapoor says he would love to work with his cousin sister Kareena Kapoor on screen, but never in a romantic movie. Asked if he has been offered any film, he said: "Nothing has been offered to me. I don't think people in the right senses would offer me a romantic movie with Bebo (Kareena's pet name). But yes, if there's a movie on cousins, I would love to act with her." In the past, Kareena too has shown keen interest in working with Ranbir.

Ranbir says he would have loved to work with Madhuri Dixit, but "unfortunately she retired". "I also haven't worked with so many actresses like Genelia and even Sonakshi. I want to work with all of them," he added. — IANS

Jenny from the jury

Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez, who has joined American Idol as a judge along with Aerosmith frontman Steve Taylor, says she will be tough with contestants on the popular show.

Lopez and Taylor were roped in after Simon Cowell's exit from the show and the star is all set to emulate Cowell when it comes to handling the hopefuls, a website reported. Describing her judging style as "tough, easy and fair," Lopez said, "I really want to put them through the wringer in the sense that I don't want to let anybody really great go because they're nervous or whatever and not get to see what they could've been.

The 41-year-old star, who is being paid a huge amount to judge the show, said: "We working with them a little more than maybe you've seen in the past. We give them more of a chance." The new season of the show started filming auditions at the end of September in Los Angeles, and has recently moved to New Jersey where Lopez warned prospective contestants she is looking for more than just vocal talent when she judges them.

Their look and style are also very important to her - although she won't give out any specific tips as to what she's looking for.

"It's definitely part of a package when you're going to be an artist, but I can't tell you what that would be because it's a very personal, individual thing." Tyler, meanwhile, said that he is trying to judge the contestants "fairly", but has advised anyone whose audition isn't successful not to direct their frustration at the judging panel, which also includes Randy Jackson. "Don't get mad at what we say. Get better!" said the rocker. — PTI

Lost track

Kayne West
Kayne West

Rapper Kanye West was left fuming after a track from his unreleased album was leaked on Twitter.

The artiste, who had promised fans to upload a new song every Friday, has now refused to release any more tracks, it was reported. A hacker reportedly managed to get hold of West's new track Lost In the World, which features samples from Gil Scott-Heron and Bon Iver and released it on Twitter.

Venting his frustration on Twitter, 33-year-old West said, "It's messed up that one hacker can mess everything up for everyone." "It would have seemed like since I give free music every week even the lowest form of human being would respect that enough not to leak unfinished songs from my real album," the rapper said.

It is said that the track will feature on the rapper's fifth studio album, Dark Twisted Fantasy scheduled for a release in late 2010 on Roc-A-Fella Records. The album has been produced by West. — PTI

Scent of a woman

Actress Eva Longoria Parker says her perfume "Eva by Eva Longoria" is the perfect way to attract a man. The Desperate Housewives star launched her debut fragrance in April and believes men all over the world will love the scent and want their partners to wear it all the time.

"I want him to devour the woman that's smelling my fragrance. If he smells my fragrance he should jump on that woman," a website quoted her as saying. Eva reveals her basketball player husband Tony Parker is definitely impressed with the fragrance. "He loves it. He also is not a very big fan of overpowering scents and so he loves it because this one is really light and subtle," she said.

Eva says she was keen to create the perfume which blends citrus notes, jasmine, violet and amber - because she hadn't worn fragrances for years as she was allergic to them.

"I was always envious of my friends who could always wear all this perfume so that's when I decided to create Eva." — IANS

All work, No play

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor ended their relationship and went their separate ways last year, but the actress still wants to work with her ex-beau as she is very fond of him. "Ranbir is someone I'm very fond of, I'm really looking forward to working with him because I think we have not worked enough together," the 24-year-old actress told reporters here at an event to launch the bridal edition of a magazine where she is on the cover.

Deepika and Ranbir were last seen in Bachna Ae Haseeno. Talking about how she got over her break-up, Deepika said, "I think everyone has a different way of dealing with it. Some people immerse themselves in work. I feel everyone has certain strength within themselves to come out of any situation whether it's a break up or anything else. So, as long as you believe in yourself, you can challenge anything."

When asked about what helps her in coming out of painful moments or problems in life, the actress gave credit to her positive thinking. "My support system like my family and friends play a major role. Apart from that I'm also someone who is very positive. I don't give up very easily and I think that's my strongest point," she said.

So what is the kind of guy Deepika would like to tie the knot with? "He needs to be my friend most importantly, a great companion, someone with whom I can spend the rest of my life, someone I can make good conversations with and also someone who understands my silence as well."

"He should accept me with all my flaws. So it's not just about romance, it's also about the layers of romance that one feels," she said. And what kind of a wedding would she like?

"As girls, we all dream of this typical fairytale wedding, that's what I hope for. — IANS

Support system

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan met the cast and crew of Khichdi - The Movie Friday, the day of the film's release, and apologised for not turning up earlier when they unveiled the film's poster outside his Bandra house Mannat. He has promised that he will watch the comedy film, which is a big screen adaptation of the popular small screen show Khichdi, said a statement from the film's production house.

"If I get late, I will call for a copy and watch it, after all ghar ki khichdi hai (afterall, it's within the family)," said Shah Rukh, who is an inspiration for the Khichdi team for making a successful transition from being a TV actor to one of India's most sought after superstars.

He has even urged the public to support the film. "Please go out and watch this film if you feel like laughing with your family, I can assure you it will be a fun-filled evening," he added.

The actors — Supriya Pathak, Anang Desai, Rajeev Mehta and Nimisha Vakharia — too hope that the film is as successful as the series were. — IANS

Three films hit the screens this week. Anjaana Anjaani postponed from last week to this, anticipating trouble due to the Babri-Ayodhya verdict, a TV serial turned film called Khichdi and Rajnikant's much anticipated Robot with Aishwariya Rai Bachchan There's as usual a glut in the cinemas but in terms of viewability they are all poor save for Khichdi, which is a family comedy on the lines of the 70's Hrishikesh Mukherjee films.

Film: Anajana Anjaani
TIMEPASS
Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Zayed Khan
Director: Siddharth Anand

It's being promoted as a love story with a difference. Two strangers meeting up co-incidentally and eventually falling in love with each other. The film has beautiful cinematography by Ravi K Chandran, New York captured in all it's glory- but that's all.

The script is weak and episodic and the character motivations appear suspect. Siddharth Anand tries hard to infuse the film with a pleasing energy but the laboured effort shows up on screen. Ranbir and Priyanka, together on screen for the first time, have a pleasing chemistry but it's never enough to sway the audience into rooting for their togetherness ever after. The episodic nature adopted by Anand to tell the story of two suicidal youngsters Akash (Ranbir) and Kiara (Priyanka), who meet on the bridge to commit suicide, makes the whole experience tedious. We are expected to believe that this is the story of two strangers on an odyssey of discovery but there is no earth-shattering discovery here. Their road trip together gets them through a series of misadventures and gradually they appear to be falling in love.

The tone is not engaging and the dialogues appear inconsistent. The editing is also quite shoddy. You may choose to overlook the silly reasoning and lack of logical flow in the plotting. as they are usually part and parcel of mainstream Bollywood grammar. But you can't overlook the glaring fact that everything that transpires on screen has been seen before. There is really nothing original here!

Fancy Full

Film: Robot
TIMEPASS
Cast: Rajnikant, Aishwariya Rai Bachchan
Director: Shankar

As a movie that claims to be the costliest (150 crores) ever in the history of Indian cinema, this Rajnikant -Aishwariya starrer appears to be a first but not all the money seems to have gone into creativity or aesthetics. For sure a major bulk of it has gone into getting Rajnikant and Aishwariya Rai together. There's plenty of computer graphic animation in use to tell the love story between a robot and a human. But other than the fact that Rajnikant plays a robot, there's nothing new and interesting here. The costumes are outlandish as you are wont to find in a south production, the characters are nowhere close to believable and the potent Rajni style is showcased and multiplicated several times over for glorified effect.

The animation, inspite of the claims of extraordinary amounts of money spent, appear showy. This film appears to be a show reel for the animators and Rajnikant himself. Stunt choreography is extremely fanciful. Robot adds more fuel to the indelible fact that mainstream Indian cinema is far more interested in covering-up the innumerable inadequacies of their stars than in establishing a viable story or developing a credible script.

Shankar is part and parcel of that long lineage. The only difference being that he is better equipped at dishing out appetizing fare for unrefined tastes. He barrages the screen with the nonsense that Rajnikant has made credible over the years, in multiplicative fashion. You get to see a hundred Rajnikants, all of them attempting to be Neo, Terminator and blade- runner composites.

The producers (Maran family) have gone all-out in their effort to ensure profitability. Robot is prime example of far-fetched fantasy masala that has been the mainstay of box-office Rajas for years. Rajnikant's fans may go crazy about this patchy and incredulous nonsense but anyone looking for sensible fare would be better advised to spend their hard earned money elsewhere.

Palatable fare

Film: Khichdi
TIMEPASS
Cast: Supriya Pathak, Anang Desai, Rajeev Mehta, Girish Sahdev, Nimisha Vakharia
Director: Aatish Kapadia

Khichdi is this week's best bet yet. A clean situational comedy based on the hit sitcom of the same name, Khichdi-the film' is entertaining. The film is about a family similar to the one in the sitcom. There is no real story to tell -just a stringing together of comic set pieces that are funny enough to get you gurgling in your seats. The familiarity of the characters and their ticks are to the film's advantage. The stagey feel, flat tonal quality and uninspiring narrative spiel can be overlooked when the other ingredients of Khichdi offer more value for your money. It's definitely funny but never over-the-top. The actors are very good at bringing conviction to their characters. Writer-Director Aatish Kapadia uses a studied approach to develop light- hearted fare.
